So were up to Android 15 and this is stuck on android 7? Isn't the concern that the applications from 3rd party companies can stop supporting older versions of the applications, basically making this device useless? wouldn't you be better off using a Bluetooth capable (or hardwired) PTT for your cell phone?

Great video: simple and too the point. I have two FT-991’s (991 and 991A). The 991A in the shack (mainly for 2M/440) and the other for portable use. I want to change (upgrade) the 991’s to a SDR so I considered the FT-DX10. But its 3.5 lbs heavier than the 991, slightly larger, and it draws a tad more amps on Rx. And it is about $330.00 more than the FT-710 AESS (at the time of this post, with current sales promotions). For me it is not ideal for portable use but would make for a nice shack radio. I recently used a FT-710 AESS portable (at a special event station) and really liked it. The buttons were similar, and familiar to the 991. The receive audio was much better than the 991. The menus and settings of the 710 are much easier to navigate, change, etc. as well. I plan to buy the FT-710 AESS this week and sell both 991’s. The FTM-500DR looks like a good choice for 2M/440 in the shack. de K6TQ

Leaving this review for people as a product owner for 3 years of the pro + 2. Verdict 1 star after 3 years. It was a 5 star review up until now. 3 years after purchase honest review: I purchased this unit in February 2022. The unit worked amazing and I loved the App and I felt that the sonar worked great both for ice fishing, casting from the shore, and attached to a kayak. I felt the best advantage of the system was access to the community topography scans that come with the pro account which I was paying for. However, this is where things took a turn. In July 2022 the unit stopped charging or putting off a wifi signal. It does come with a 1 year warranty so I sent it back and their customer service was great in that. Their customer service people concluded it was a manufacturer defect (something on the hardware board became disconnected), They sent me a brand-new unit. The whole process took a couple of weeks If this was the end of it I would be leaving 5 stars based on this experience. However Fast forward to January 2025, Took the unit out ice fishing it worked fine, went home to charge it and the same issue had arisen. It no longer would charge, and no longer would emit a wifi signal. I contacted support and let them know the issues I was having. They said that since the 1 year warranty had expired I would have to pay $90 for them to diagnose the product and do any repairs. ( I assume this is a battery issue based on numerous other 1 star reviews that list the same problem arising after the warranty period has expired.) IF you want an awesome sonar that works for 1 year but will eventually break and then you have to pay 50% of the cost to get it fixed then this is the one for you. But to me this seems pretty crummy on their end to not back their product with a longer warranty. Clearly, they figured out that the battery will only last a certain amount of time then customers will have to come back and pay to get it fixed. This just seems like bad business and disrespect to their customers. In all fairness, this unit was extensively used for the 2.5 years I had it. I did go ice fishing quite a bit with it so maybe it cannot actually withstand the very cold water temperatures when using it ice fishing. That being said the sonar is marketed for ice fishing which to me should mean that the system should be able to handle the cold temps as cold is usually a battery killer. If the battery is this prone to breaking one would think they would offer batteries for sale that the customer could swap out after a certain period time instead of having to pay $90. Which by the way their support is based in Europe so having to ship it over seas is a pain.

I own the FT-710. My biggest complaint is that the microphone and mic buttons feel so cheap. I really wish the FT-991A supported 1.25m

Glad that crank e-radios have advanced. Back in the day, I had a few of them, and they always failed to charge after a while. Now, I have a Baufeng UV- 21R which has good practicality for emergency use. No solar panel, though. And no e-crank for charging in an in "ohhh no" situation.

Ive heard a lot of bad about the 980 radios the displays go bad and the displays go completely out then the radio is no good

Beware! Privacy codes dont work. They are just for show. When you select a code, other radios can still hear you. Tested.

The 980SSB while pretty is honestly a POS in my opinion. First one I bought a few years ago the screen died within about a month. Got it replaced under warranty and now a couple years later the screen is dead again. I am replacing with a GMRS radio so is what it is.

What I hate is there is no squelch knob. You have to push buttons and be able to look at it to adjust squelch. Bad idea.

I've been a cb nut for 51 years, my favorite, and I still have them are the 1984 Cobra 2000gtl and the 1996 Galaxy saturn base radios. My mobiles are the President Grant, Cobra 148, and Galaxy DX 939.....among some older radios that still work.

Turn on airplane mode when using the app with the 800 series. It will make battery life last longer.

After all these years I still use my IC-7000 and have taken it on many mini-DXpeditions around the world. It does everything and does it well. I'm still waiting for something better to come out.

This isn’t actually called a WR-120B, the WR-120B listing is actually a codename for all variants of the WR-120. The newer radios are actually called the WR-120DSP, which not too long ago replaced the WR-120EZ. The newer DSP models now have a functional “alert volume” mode to change the volume of the alert tone.
