@@SinlowMusicNo shit you're gonna have to maintain it lol, I think bro understands that. I think what he means to ask is if any major replacements were necessary e.g., having to change out the rod bearings on older N55s
Picked up a 157k mile 2015 in July and have had zero issues so far. Replaces some suspension components but that is to be expected for a car of such high mileage.
Finally someone famous reviewed 435i. I think it's one of the most beautiful cars for the price range. Oh by the way, it has a single turbo not twin turbo. Common mistake.
You should review for your own personal experience drive a full bolt on 335i/435i or m3/M4 and make sure its on sport + not just sport. and of course one with a stick trasmission

+JDM Dragon I just came from that to here. David is totally driving this thing wrong he has both hands on the steering wheel and he doesn't have the looks. Where is the bluethooth's and the sunglasses.
If you liked the 4,000lb 435i auto vert, you'd love the 435i coupe with MPPK with MT (saves a good 400 lbs).. As others have mentioned, just 1 turbo here.
+Josh Lum Yes! People always think they got two turbos but really its just one. The only time BMW made actual twin turbo engines for non M cars was when they made the N54 engine. They stopped though because it was too expensive to continue doing lol.
The germans make their cars so solid, so you can bomb down an Autobahn at 150+ mph for a couple of hours and still have your sanity. If you were to do the same in let's say a Supra with 600hp your ears would be bleeding and your ass would be sore.
+DB8 Wow, I never thought a brand new german engineered luxury sports car could be better suited for long trips than a modified, super stiff, Japanese non-luxury sports car built 17-18 years prior.
I was the same as you about BMWs. Didn't care for any but the Ms until I picked up a 135i n54. There are so many tuning options and you can get 600whp plus on stock internals. Also im pretty sure the 435i isnt twin turbo. Alot of people get say that because it says twin power turbo, what it actually means is it has a twin scroll turbo.
I completely understand where you are coming from. In the last few years new BMW's have excited me less and less because the experience has become so tame. Every time i get in my 635CSi I know I am going to have a good time because of how analog it is.
It's like the guys on Everyday Driver ( RUclips Channel ) always say, and they are correct - "You can't drive a spec sheet." And that is exactly why this car has disappointed hardcore Bimmerphiles. The chassis is a bit soft as compared to the much-loved E90 era, and going away from the Hydraulic steering has really hurt the steering feel.
Honestly that heavy steering is one of the things I miss about my old 335i, the best steering I've ever felt. I want to get an aftermarket steering rack to get that incredibly responsive and realistic feedback that my bimmer had in my subaru. I really can't stand light pillowy steering. I know you don't like the steering of the bmw but that feel has been their major selling point forever. The steering feel is what seperated bmw back in the e30 days and what made journalists fall in love with it. Also Im pretty sure bmw offers a manual transmission in all their cars except their suvs, they are sold as a drivers car afterall.

I really like bmws and almost bought a 535ixdrive (last week) with the Msport package for my wife. It drove nice, I like the interior (I turned off that eco/start/stop first) has decent power. Thing that stopped me from the purchase is how much they depreciate in a few years, reliability after warranty and for the price of that bmw new, Porsche (the best German car imo) 997 turbo is within reach.
Drove the x6m couple days ago, and i was slapped with a reminder of power, that performance has definitely changed. If possible, i think you should try reviewing the x6m David.
I have a 435i gran coupe and it is great. I wish BMW offered an "is" line like did they for a short time with the e92 335i line. My only dislike of it is that is has the luxury line and not the M sport line, but as the 4 series line comes with many of the 3's sport options as standard, it isn't too big of an issue.
i think you're going into the discussion that while german cars are very well made and engineered, they lack that sort of passion drivers feel with other cars, specifically Italian ones, ones that require more attention when driving fast or those that demand more from the driver while they aren't as well-built. this is coming from a novice but i would love to drive a bmw and maybe a mustang and tell the difference
Well, yeah, but the driving feel isn't there with most modern cars, apart from some supercars, german sports cars (as in M, AMG and RS), American pony cars and the occasional Japanese/Korean car. A non-M BMW is still pretty okay compared to other not-exactly-performance oriented cars.
I really know what you are talking about, dude in blue. I recently bought myself my very first BMW. It's a 535D (I live in Europe, where diesels are in vogue). It's got 330hp and 680NM of torque, M-pack from factory. I was expecting to have a BLAST! Except I didn't! Yes, the car is incredibly good at everything it does. I have little competition on the road. It is supremely comfortable and qualitative. But it's an automatic. And it has a billion computers standing between me and the car. All my friends and relatives love it. But I don't. I actually fall asleep while driving it. Before it, I had a Toyota Avensis with a 2.0l diesel and a manual gearbox. That engine had a huge turbo lag and the 310NM it produced had to be meticulously harnessed by reaching the correct RPM. But I enjoyed! I felt involved. The BMW though... it's joyless.
It depends where you get it tuned because I know for a fact you can get 335is a 100hp+ for less than 200 bucks from burger tuning while going for dinan or renntech will run you around 2 grand atleast. I dont think bmw has anything against modding cars they have a very large tuning market that they themselves support and endorse.
buttery smooth through the power brand. these cars are more than quite refined, and that could either be looked at as a pro or con. I haven't driven a new M but know a few people who like the older ones because there is no raw power to them, and I would be longing for that
I had an mr2 turbo 20 years ago and got fed up telling people it wasn't a twin turbo. Well done BMW, you've made a new generation of people confused about the difference between twin turbo and twin entry turbo. 😂
There's a reason I own an E92 335i and not an F32 435i and it's NOT my credit 🤗 great video David and I agree with the over nannying of BMW performance cars now!
Another awesome review! I can totally agree with you on BMW not being as "soulful" with their cars as they once were back in the day. The E30, E36, or E46 is a bimmer I'd much rather have although I can see that 4er being a great daily driver while owning something bonkers to drive on the nice days/on the track!
Just FYI the 435i uses the N55 engine that has a Twin-Scroll turbo, not a twin turbo engine like the 335i from before with the N54. The new M2 uses factory modified N55 engine instead of a Sxx engine like all M-cars (except 1M) use. Nobody believes the 35i or 40i cars are as quick as they actually are since they lack an //M badge, so it's almost like having a sleeper.
I get what you mean with the German performance cars being to good because they're so good and they make it so refined and smooth that it seems normal and not tuned
i went to my 1st local car meet last night as soon as i get out of my car the cops show up and ask us to leave although no one was reving. great 1st experience 10/10 i didnt even get to look at the dodge viper or supra
Sounds like you enjoy a car with more drama, more theatre. One of the things you enjoy about driving a fast car is the challenge. Knowing that if you don't do it just right that you could end up losing it. Knowing that a lesser skilled driver might not be able to handle it.
Umm... Toyota knows a little about making inline-6 engines too. They did make a couple of pretty legendary ones back in the 90's. I doubt they relied on BMW because that needed their expertise. It was a financial decision.
It was 20 years ago. Tech has moved on at a rapid pace, and the mighty 2JZ, while still a legend and great for power, is outdated. They would have to play catch up with everyone if they decided to make the I6 all on their own. Meanwhile, BMW has been making I6 engines non-stop since the late 60s. BMW certainly has much more experience with I6 engines, especially modern ones.
As an American, I am torn between getting a used 2014 435i for around $25k, vs a brand new 2018 Ford Mustang for $35k with full warranty. What concerns me is the long term life of the 435i. My buddy has a 335i and already needs a whole new front suspension and a few other repairs at 100,000 miles. I've never owned a car that would need that much work. How has your 435i been for long life and reliability been?
I know what you mean. For a daily driver I have a 2016 BMW 320d it's perfect, before that I had a VW Golf MK5 R32 but I still miss my EP3 Civic Type R.
David.... Just a suggestion I love the intro and all but I feel like it will be awesome whenever you have an anniversary to change the intro into something even more epic... Just a thought... Stay awesome
Compared to Europe, the same cars in America are definitely made cheaper, this may be a 435i but little things in comparison to its euro doppleganger are so noticeable. Things like trim, details in the interior, there are far less nicer materials used in USA cars, like just passable amounts. If you live in UK / Euro, you will notice it. The german cars VW/Audi/BMW all cut costs like this. Probably not a big deal but its there. Things like the switches have less chrome or metal surroundings, the centre console in this car, the iDrive, has so much plain plastic, but I have sat in BMWs in UK and its not that bare at all. Sad but thats how it is.
@thatdudeinblue why don't you try finding your old yellow mustang and doing a flashback in time review on it? That would be super cool and fun for you and us!
lol wow David I know exactly what you mean, i just never knew how to explain it to anyone. when driving a german car, the power is delivered so butterly smoothly and professionally with a hint of thrill in it. Other cars pushing the same power will scare the shit out of you while driving it but bmws have a way of hiding the speed. The other day i was doing 120mph on the freeway and thought.. hmm.. maybe i should slow down. Didnt even feel like i was going fast at all, i know if i was doing 120mph in an american car id be holding on tight and being super focused.
My gripe with BMW's is that they don't have as much soul or fun as other cars. I drove my buddy's 328 and all the inputs felt so numb. But they are comfy.
The roads and the weather are different in Europe compared to the USA. If he drove the car in manual and Sport + on a damp narrow European road he would be giving the car 100% of his attention. He would also need a nappy change afterwards.
+Vette_Dude84 nice to know. Wonder if the tune alone of the is can take it above 400 or if I'll have to swap the M exhaust. If that's the case it might not be worth it.
It comes down to if you're wanting the M accessories, and exterior embellishments as given in an "is" variant of the traditional 335. Also, don't be afraid of checking out lightly used M235i's, depending on your budget.
It's one of those cars that even if you know it's a quick car, you just always underestimate it's performance. I've been put in my place time after time by 335i's.
This is probably why I enjoy driving my miata more than the GTI. GTI is nice, comfortable, and fairly quick. Overall pleasant car to be in and do long drives, but when I drive the miata I just get a huge grin on my face.
I love my mom's CLA250 no turbo lag, Dual Clutch 7 speed, only downside is the nearly unnoticeable FWD it loves to spin for a split second in sport mode but in total specs are 208 Hp 258 LB FT of torque and a small turbo with 16 PSi
Yup. Most, if not all modern cars are pretty soulless. The only lively ones are the performance models, like all the M cars, the AMGs, Type Rs and such, but even then, it's not guaranteed. With older cars, you can have a lot of fun in, say, a D15 VTEC Civic, or a 318is like mine, but with their modern counterparts, you're shit outta luck.
+ThatDudeinBlue correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they went to a twin scroll single turbo after the N54 engine (although it came back in the 335is) that's probably why you feel there's no turbo lag.
This is why I am SO glad I didn't get a newer BMW than my e46. I am actually looking for an e30 now...so moddable, PROPERLY over engineered, such an engaging driving experience. I think I just officially lost interest in the e9x and newer stuff...
I think it has to do with the ridiculous safety, fuel economy and emissions standards. Of course it's nice knowing that you won't die because you approached a corner wrong and your car is made of tin foil and has lap belts, but all that safety jazz has killed the spirit in normal cars. The M-cars are still real BMWs, though.
Daniel Hartman I came from an E46 to a M Sport 335i as my daily 60 mile commute and its my only car. I dont understand the "souless" Mentality. Main difference to me is the steering feel. If you want more rugged and raw get a Muscle Car. Luxury, comfort and power, thats what Germans do. Not everyone can afford a new AMG or M6 for the craziness. Cars are just getting a lot more refined, just look at the old Mustangs vs the new models. As far as modding goes, I can slap a tune package on my car and get to 400hp and 400+ Torque and have it refined with luxury and also be a blast. Its a preference. If i wanted a raw car for the weekend id obviously choose differently, but not as my only one. Get a Manual m135i CPO.. i doubt youll be disappointed.
For people that don't know if they should buy a mustang gt or a 435i, If David Patterson loved the BMW he could've bought it instead of the mustang. Plus mustang is more powerful and much more cheaper which is good to buy mods.
So if I'm not mistaken, this technically isn't a twin turbo, it's a twin scroll? Meaning it has only 1 turbo but has 2 exhaust ports in the turbine housing? I can't keep track which ones have it or not.
Yeah the Germn cars pretty nicely engeneered. And not only the high horsepower cars all the cars even the smaller ones. When I drive my Seat which is basically a VW that is 12 years old and has 100k miles on it I go 175kph on the Autobahn and still can listen to music and talk with other persons. When I take my moms Hyundai which is from 2013 with like 25k miles it feels like it's falling apart at 140/150 kph. Almost scary and my last Car which was a VW aswell was 18 years old with 130k miles and equaly good. The builtquality is just so good.
+JDMxlove Nah, Seats are rebadged VW's, built in Spain. Same chassis, powertrain etc. Minor differences in trim levels and such. For example a basemodel FWD Audi A4, Skoda Octavia and Seat Toledo is basically a Passat/Jetta with different bodypanels and interior.
Anders Kristensen Octavia and Toledo are Golfs with another body style. I don't know about Audis they might be a little more independent but A3 is a Golf as well. A1 is probably a Polo and so on. But I think the Passat is on the same Platform as the Golfs as well.
I noticed your 335i review was lacking a bit w/ his fueling setup.. if you're in the new England area drive my fbo 335xi w upgraded turbos and all the goodies.

i went to my 1st local car meet last night as soon as i get out of my car the cops show up and ask us to leave although no one was reving. great 1st experience 10/10 i didnt even get to look at the dodge viper or supra
Sounds like you enjoy a car with more drama, more theatre. One of the things you enjoy about driving a fast car is the challenge. Knowing that if you don't do it just right that you could end up losing it. Knowing that a lesser skilled driver might not be able to handle it.
Need to try an M4, I fell in love with that car. Sounds super good stock.
Its not twin turbo its twin scroll. 1 turbo but does the work of 2 turbos. None the less great vid!
Umm... Toyota knows a little about making inline-6 engines too. They did make a couple of pretty legendary ones back in the 90's. I doubt they relied on BMW because that needed their expertise. It was a financial decision.
agreed
+hartsickdisciple toyota makes everything good, including v10's
It's a good thing when you open a ThatDudeinBlue video and he has that hat on!
FYI: The 435i has a single "twin scroll" turbo, whereas the M4 has dual "twin scroll" turbos. A twin scroll turbo is not a twin turbo.
Great video bro! First one i have watched from your channel
I believe its a twin scroll turbo not a twin turbo. Twin scroll reduces lag and provides a much flatter torque curve then a traditional turbo!
"There's virtually no turbo lag"... *pans go license plate that says "TRBO 1AG"*
+RAT TRAP Different car :)
That's an e92 335i. Not the 435
same engine tho
+Saul T. Knots nope. N54 vs N55
+BMWAddict yep, twin turbo vs single turbo labelled as BMW "twin power"
What you need to drive is a N54 135i with a six speed MT. Feels more raw and is an overall Amazing Car!
Thinking about getting this, figure it can be good for the summer as a fun car and still be a daily in the snow because it’s awd
my dad has been looking at new 340i xdrive, we'll probably get one by the winter for when his mustang is stored
This is an amazing car. I really want one !
That'd make a sick daily. Love my ZHP but the extra power and the power hard top would be awesome.
Sounds like it pulls like a Supra. Gotta love those I-6 Turbos!
I am looking into getting a late 2000's 335i. Idk why, they just look really good
Find one with sport-package, and 2010 and newer has the n54 engine which has more tuning potential.
Love your music selections for these videos david!
Yet again Killing it with another review, thank you David. I wish you could Review my sn95 Cobra.
Love this car, just wish they kept the DCT from the e90/e92
The new 340i is sweet sorta sad they left the classic 35i name being an OG 335i w/ the n54
lol wow David I know exactly what you mean, i just never knew how to explain it to anyone.
when driving a german car, the power is delivered so butterly smoothly and professionally with a hint of thrill in it.
Great video David the 335i and 435i are sweet they are sleepers if you don't know about them. Keep up the awesome work.
3rd view 1st like before the notification squad
The roads and the weather are different in Europe compared to the USA.
If he drove the car in manual and Sport + on a damp narrow European road he would be giving the car 100% of his attention.
He would also need a nappy change afterwards.
really good reviews keep up the work hard man!
I was going to buy a 335i. I've heard you can get a little over 400 hp from the stock twins with a full exhaust ,aftermarket manifolds and a tune.
yup, JB4 tune
+Saul T. Knots My cousin said he'd do the full installation, supply parts and the tune for around 3500.
Try to find a 335is. More power than standard 335i, and exterior touches/M performance exhaust/suspension/brakes along with 330 hp/320 ft. lbs.
+Vette_Dude84 nice to know. Wonder if the tune alone of the is can take it above 400 or if I'll have to swap the M exhaust. If that's the case it might not be worth it.
It comes down to if you're wanting the M accessories, and exterior embellishments as given in an "is" variant of the traditional
335. Also, don't be afraid of checking out lightly used M235i's, depending on your budget.
It's one of those cars that even if you know it's a quick car, you just always underestimate it's performance. I've been put in my place time after time by 335i's.
A girl at my HS got one of these for her 16th birthday . Rear ended it into a corolla 2 weeks later
This is probably why I enjoy driving my miata more than the GTI. GTI is nice, comfortable, and fairly quick. Overall pleasant car to be in and do long drives, but when I drive the miata I just get a huge grin on my face.
Catless DownPipe+Catback Exhaust+Intake+JB4 on Map 2+ER ChargePipe = Smoked stock M3s and M4s
Its not a twin turbo though... Its one twin scroll turbo...
It's true about the lack of personality. A lot of newer cars don't have any.
True shit. Like my mom's car has a cvt transmission. And its so ugly
+Cocaine's one hell of a drug what car is it??
No personality just this new generation of people nowadays.
in sport plus you can shift whenever you want it keeps in the rev limiter
+ThatDudeinBlue correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they went to a twin scroll single turbo after the N54 engine (although it came back in the 335is) that's probably why you feel there's no turbo lag.
about time you did another euro car
You were with Roman bro that's so sick
How's China? 😉
Lol ikr
+Andres Sandoval dude xD
+My Stoner Mind is he really in china with romantwood, i mean i saw him in the blogs
+Andres Sandoval same
I was 👍🏻
My dad has the 2015 335d X dive and that thing really shifts
This is why I am SO glad I didn't get a newer BMW than my e46. I am actually looking for an e30 now...so moddable, PROPERLY over engineered, such an engaging driving experience. I think I just officially lost interest in the e9x and newer stuff...
the e82 is the newest that still drives like a bmw. those newer cars don't feel the same
i have an F80 and i feel the BMW spirit inside of it
I think it has to do with the ridiculous safety, fuel economy and emissions standards.
David I wish I were you hanging out with Roman Atwood😫
+Shoaib Zaman y
+Shoaib Zaman Why?
+Imperator Augustus there is a picture of David and Roman in China in the back of a taxi. This is on face book.
watch romans latest vlog mister.
+Gabriel Miranda (BuggedArchangel) he is though?
Pretty excited for this
Your uncle Eric is a boss
For people that don't know if they should buy a mustang gt or a 435i, If David Patterson loved the BMW he could've bought it instead of the mustang. Plus mustang is more powerful and much more cheaper which is good to buy mods.
I agree what you said in the end, i had to hear it 3 times.
So if I'm not mistaken, this technically isn't a twin turbo, it's a twin scroll? Meaning it has only 1 turbo but has 2 exhaust ports in the turbine housing? I can't keep track which ones have it or not.
But it's a single turbo twin SCROLL turbo david! 😫😂
Spanish car German engine?
JDMxlove German Car Spanish Styling I would say. Cause not only the Engine is VW Suspension and most of the other stuff is as well.
I have a e90 328i, and love it!!
Btw the 435i has the n55 with a single twin scroll turbo
I noticed your 335i review was lacking a bit w/ his fueling setup.. if you're in the new England area drive my fbo 335xi w upgraded turbos and all the goodies.
Spotted in the new Roman Atwood v-log :P
