You should review my Fiesta ST! I stay in Virginia as well, Hampton Roads area. I'm sure you'd like the car, I previously owned a 2008 GTI before I switched to the Fiesta and haven't looked back since. The car is mostly stock except for a set of Vogtland lowering springs and a Boomba BOV adapter.
+ThatDudeinBlue I had a Mk1 16v back in the day. Well for about a week anyway before a conrod went through the side of the block :/ Oh. If you're ever in the UK, you're welcome to try out my stage 3 (soon to be 4) Mk1 Focus RS. Now there's some torque steer for you.
+eliruben123 hmmm maybe. the golf R is a serious machine, but since the RS runs 0-60 stock in 4.7sec and the Mustang ecoboost has the same engine and gets +50hp, 50tq from a 93 tune it could be possible...
+Imad S Big reason was MPG. The STI was a fuel pig. And I just couldn't get over the terrible interior, that's where you spend your time. But I loved the AWD and the STI power. But the forums scared me about the ringlands, and always monitoring knock. I would always worry when I drove it. The GTI is such a fun car to drive. And just a stage 1 will take it close to 300hp.
Adam Simpson Huh interesting, I've worried about the ringland issue but didn't think it was so prevalent. Perhaps I should stay away or go for the FA motor WRX. Cheers bud.
+Imad S Yeah you lurk on the forums and see stg 2 ppl either spinning bearings or blowing ringlands. And as much as I told myself that it wouldn't happen to me, it was still in the back of my head. I do miss it. But the GTI felt right at this time of my life👍🏻
I own the MK7 gti and it is the definition of having your cake and eating it too. Practical, fuel efficient, fast, comfortable, refined, tune-able, looks great, flies under the radar, if you need awd the golf R is an option too. Most cars are really good at one or two things but the MK7 checks so many boxes off without huge compromise.
DCassidy42 My man, you are lucky!!! Can't wait til I own a newer GTI. Like Volkswagen always built then for: the People. All-around such a brilliant vehicle!
DCassidy42 yes I was deciding between a wrx and a gti and the gti is just a great complete car. The wrx isn’t that. Yes it’s a great platform but for a daily driver the gti is better
Got a nice chuckle during this video, my fiance overheard "300 wheel hp" and asked me, "what does that mean, is there fake horsepower?" She thought you said "real hp" hahah, good review David!
man i absolutely love mine! wooh can you squeeze some NIIICE power out of these little cars, throw somelight rims and super grippy tires on and some nice traction/suspension mods. oooh bby....
This was an awesome review. I really appreciate how level headed and logical you are throughout your videos! That alone makes me respect your opinion. I drove a 2016 gi a few months back and ordered one, it's been 'in transit' for 12 days. Hope it gets here soon, my 2 TDI's are going back.
Seems like all the VW 2.0T's backfire with a tune. My buddy has an '08 that happens to be straight piped for the most part (not on purpose), and it backfires like a motherfucker. Even when he manages to get the muffler to stay on for a little while it still backfires
I owned a stage 2 mk6 gti before I got my mk7 GTI and a tuned mk7 may be one of the best sport compacts ever. With Eurodyne tune the mk7 is a very fast car. Super nice inside and out and miraculous in the lack of any torque steer even with 385 lb ft... The engine sound is valvey for lack of a better term. it's different but adds some odd character as well. great review!
+TheXenon You wouldn't say that if you had actually driven one, they're absolutely mad little hatches that just go and go and go. As daily drivers they're some of the best cars I know.
Love the videos. I admire the fact you do your best not to be biased toward any make or model. You seem to truly just enjoy driving all types of automobiles. I love that because it's so common to have fan boys who just stick to one brand or car. Keep it up man, lovin' all the reviews and looking forward to seeing your 240 finished up with that 2J!
HS tuning RSR clutch kit makes the clutch feel great. Highly recommended if you want that OEM+ feel. If you are looking to tune your car, the HS kit comes with a pressure plate that holds upwards of 400 TQ so slipping is not an issue.
The reason the wheel doesn't torque steer is because the esp system has electric power steering and an amazing diff that when you go around a corner fast the motor increases electrical power unlike hydraulic with the increased power the steering wheel feels light and has lots of turning power and the diff is amazing at controlling under steer there's even an option on the vag com (ecu programming obd2 cable) to increase the steering torque steer compensation
just had mine last week, exactly same than this one, 4 doors, same colors, same wheels, full leather. +open roof and lots of options. for sure, great car. my first golf, my first gti. great toy :)
Btw, the GTI only sound like a blender from the inside of the car... If you change the settings on the drive mode and set it to normal it actually gets pretty quiet.
You kinda helped me out with my decision David, I'm having a hard time deciding between the st or the gti even after I test drove both! Thanks a lot! keep up the great work!! 👌
No mention of the LED tails! Those are an amazing mod and totally wish it came factory in North America. Also I don't know about 40mpgs,...i mean its rated 34 stock, it certainly isn't going to get 6 more after being modded.
Getting a 2015 GTI shipped to test drive and buy pretty soon. I'm stoked. There's so much more I wanna say but I'm stupid excited and can't wait to drive my first hot hatch and European car in general. Let's go dude!
I love my 2005, Mk5 Gti for all the reasons you have given for this latest version! An utterly brilliant all-rounder, which could sound so much better!
Do you guys in the US have the Mk7 R? It's a 300hp AWD version of the Golf. Really fun and you can get with a manual or the DSG. On a side note. I drive a 1.2TSI Mk7 with just 85hp (sadly) but it's a great daily driver. I used it to move to university and with the rear seats folded I got so much stuff in there it's just incredible. 85hp isn't a lot but the fuel economy is insane. I got about 30mpg going flat out on the Autobahn at 110mph(180kmh) which is this cars top speed. Very cool little car.
I've got a '10 mk6 GTI. Best car I ever bought. Fast, fun & super practical. Still love driving it all the time. And though I plan to keep it for years to come I love how be just made a good thing better with the mk7 : )
I picked the Focus ST. I drove both and I didn't like the practical aspects of the GTI. the 4 DOOR was a after thought and the car has no trunk! the Focus ST is a bigger car by inches and has a much more usable trunk, back seats and overall room throughout. the interior is also nicer and refined in the ST. just my opinion. the VW can make more power per dollar but not the only thing I look for in a car. also liked that I was buying American and not German. Great review David!
It was either an ST or a GTI when I was looking. Ford is my favorite American car brand, but I always wanted a GTI, and the mk7 impressed me more. Still love the ST.
All it needs is a CTS turbo back exhaust and that should give it the more aggressive sound. Best aftermarket exhaust out there for the MK7 in my opinion
I just traded my 2017 Elantra Sport in for a cornflower blue 2019 GTI Rabbit Edition w/ DSG and holy shit do I love this car. All I've done so far is a drop-in K&N and removed the snow guard from the airbox, perfect amount of induction sound and blow-off. Can't wait to get a downpipe and a tune when I can afford to
really good car. my friend has a 14 GTI with bolt-ons tune and i believe a 30 shot of nitrous. he ran low 12s before any mods. now he removed all seats except for the driver seat and is running high 11s easy.
I really wish speed3s got more attention than they do. I mean fwd does suck, but they are a bargain. They have a great motor that loves mods, its handling capabilities are fantastic (if can do .91gs in turning), and it's pretty comfortable and kinda unique.
Great review David. I agree with everything you mentioned. I had an MK6 GLI which also had virtually no torque steer, and a ridiculously soft clutch. Biggest complaint about mine was that the clutch was weak, started to show signs of wear at 65k-75k with mostly highway miles. Supposedly a known issue with the MK6 GLI clutches. I can't speak for the MK7's however.
I drive an Infiniti and I'd like to see you review one because I love the VQ engine. Remove the resonator and add a small turbo and you have one sweet ride.
As someone who lives next to Germany, I see GTIs, Leon Cupras, Octavia RS' and Audi S3s wich are all the same car, pretty much every day and you also hear every day on the Radio about 18 year olds who have deadly accidents with these things. I have to say, I'm pretty content with my Euro-spec Chrysler Neon, it may only have have 130 hp but at least people don't trie to race me on the Freeway all the time
I've had GTIs for years and I finally stepped it up to the Golf R. As much as I like the R I wonder if I should have saved the $ and built the GTI. Oh well I guess I have to save for stage 3.
not sure gti mk7 is so much better to definitely change my gti mk6 for it, but it is more refined for sure. if you are thinking about getting this car, do it. you will not regret it
I drove a tuned gti once and it was soo much faster than stock. I work at a vw dealership and unfortunately, I was driving it to complete an oil consumption test. Too bad warranty doesn't cover brand new cars that are tuned
David, I wish you could do a review on a Ford Focus RS, the one with 5 cylinder engine! I often drive one (as a passenger) and it sounds, goes and feels amazing!
Hey David could you try to find an 05-07 Subaru Legacy GT or Spec B. or any Forester XT to review? Love your videos and I'm a huge Subaru guy. And no 8+ Subaru's is not enough for me. Keep doing what you're doing and DON'T STOP!
Love this mk7 my brother has the same gti same color, black badges also. He has H and R Springs which he still needs to install, but the car is so damn fast compared to the mk6 plus you can make more power pretty easy with all these parts avalible it's such a dope car
Can someone tell me if the badges are plastidipped or what? I have the 2016 GTI in the same gray, and those badges make the car look 10x better than the chrome on mine. Thanks.
Too bad that you can't review my Volvo 850 T5 wagon. Got only bigger turbo and makes near 300hp. Looks and sounds like a normal family car, but when the turbo kicks in...
Nice review David! This will probably be one of my first cars, Idk, can't wait to find out in 3 to 4 years from now. I'm 14 btw, living in the state of New Jersey if anyone's curious.
Matix700 the Golf R is the same thing as a S3 no difference in any way. Watch any other review on it. Quattro is a RWD biased drive train; the A3 platform is 95% FWD and 5% RWD until the front wheels slip to put up to and no more than 50% to the RWD.
+Top Gear is a Joke I was just about to comment same thing about A3's "awd". It's just shit. I read about Audi's Quattro some time ago and if I can remember correctly, Quattro is like 90% fwd in normal driving conditions if the engine is sideways (like in any fwd car) under the hood, but if the engine is mounted like in rwd cars, it's rwd biased.
My 99 Passat with the 2.8 v6 was atrocious for the traction control cutout with the setup I was running . It wasn't tuned properly and would back fire on every cutout if I tried to get up and go . People thought it sounded cool and kind of like a 2 step but I was not a fan of it
+Eric “SpeedieGTI” U what kind of power is the eurodyne pushing compared to the APR? I'm only hesitant because of the issues people have had with their turbos blowing. Mines my daily and I own it outright so I'm erring on the side of being a reliable daily than a track day weapon, but a bit more power would be a welcomed addition.
I have about 310whp and 350tq. Eurodyne is tune from home and has great power so I didn't even consider APR. I'm tuned for over 20 k miles on my mk7 GTI with no issues.
Eric U wish I could tell which revision of the turbo I have but from everything I can see, it doesn't seem to matter. I've got almost 25K on mine already though so I'd imagine if it were going to go it would've gone already, tuned or not. Might have to go with Eurodyne's tune. The regular stage 1.5 with 93 (I use 93 pretty much exclusively) looks like more than enough power for my tastes. Thanks for the input man.
I swear David is the only RUclipsr worth using cellular data for
Hahaha true
That means so much haha. So kind :')
lol yeah dude.
lol true
+Tyler Lawrence True man!
So yeah, we're going to make it sound insane
most awesome comment of this video haha you go armytrix!
Roman atwood's GTR sounds raw af !!
already got a armytrix cat back.
+william wolfe no for mk6 gti.
+ARMYTRIX Please do, I own a GTI and these are sort of a bitch to get a good sound out of.
Thanks for watching guys! This car was great. What is your favorite VW?
You should review my Fiesta ST! I stay in Virginia as well, Hampton Roads area. I'm sure you'd like the car, I previously owned a 2008 GTI before I switched to the Fiesta and haven't looked back since. The car is mostly stock except for a set of Vogtland lowering springs and a Boomba BOV adapter.
+ThatDudeinBlue vw rabbit pickup
+alejandro vergara and 15mm wheels spacers all around.
Mk4 R32
+ThatDudeinBlue I had a Mk1 16v back in the day. Well for about a week anyway before a conrod went through the side of the block :/
Oh. If you're ever in the UK, you're welcome to try out my stage 3 (soon to be 4) Mk1 Focus RS. Now there's some torque steer for you.
The Mk7 GTI makes stupid power with a tune compared to other hot hatches. Way underrated from factory.
+Rucifel Until the Focus RS comes out lol you getting one since you have an ST now?
Jason Davis No haha. I'm a college student. The ST1 is basically maxing my budget as it is.
vw are always underrated on power from factory. usually the rated bhp is actually the whp
+Jason Davis would like to see the Focus RS run a 0-60 in 3.8 with just a tune and no other mods.... Mk7 Golf R does ;)
+eliruben123 hmmm maybe. the golf R is a serious machine, but since the RS runs 0-60 stock in 4.7sec and the Mustang ecoboost has the same engine and gets +50hp, 50tq from a 93 tune it could be possible...
Sold my 12' STI Limited for a 16' GTI Performance Pack. Best decision I ever made.
+Adam Simpson Wow! I'm curious to know why? I've thought about going to a WRX from my MK6 GTI
+TheXenon Nice intellectual comment. Now go back greeting ppl at Walmart.
But the GTI felt right at this time of my life👍🏻
Fun fact: the Mk7's are so quiet and sound so weird because the turbo is literally bolted to the head. The more you know :)
Thanks didn't know that man
+eliruben123 Today I learned
+eliruben123 Good to know! I'm guessing similar to the ST with their "headifold"? I love my FoST, just with it sounded a bit different, haha.
+CJ Ray yep, just like fords headifold
Knowing is half the battle! GI JOSE!
I own the MK7 gti and it is the definition of having your cake and eating it too. Practical, fuel efficient, fast, comfortable, refined, tune-able, looks great, flies under the radar, if you need awd the golf R is an option too. DCassidy42 My man, you are lucky!!! Can't wait til I own a newer GTI. Like Volkswagen always built then for: the People. All-around such a brilliant vehicle!
Good first car?
DCassidy42 yes I was deciding between a wrx and a gti and the gti is just a great complete car. The wrx isn’t that. Yes it’s a great platform but for a daily driver the gti is better
Amen glad I got my MK7 Gti over the MK6
+ThatDudeinBlue Since you liked this golf GTI, you should go ahead and review a Golf R
I've been waiting for the day i see him review that
I've been waiting for the day i see him review that
yessss pleasee!!! & then review the golf r400 when it comes out!!
+ChiTown I seriously doubt the R400 will come out at all with VW current situation.
TheCocaColaManiac the current situation is only about the diesel car in america and america only. The r400 will come out as its a petrol (gas) car
You know what I feel about these VeeDubs. Still looking fir an R or R32. Very practical and so much fun. Love the video 👍
I have a MK7 GTI that is APR Stage 2 as my daily. The amount of fun you can have in these cars is amazing and its still respectable and practical
5:50 "Makin' my milkshakes, goin' through the blenderrr." - David Patterson, December 21st 2015
Read that just as it happened in the video 😂
I wanted an Oreo milkshake but came out with smiles instead.
My dad has one of these, honestly one of the best cars when you want a daily that's fast and fun. I love it
Got a nice chuckle during this video, my fiance overheard "300 wheel hp" and asked me, "what does that mean, is there fake horsepower?" She thought you said "real hp" hahah, good review David!
david reviews for life
Agreed
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
ThatDudeinBlue david replied=my life complete
+ThatDudeinBlue 🙌🙌🙌🙌
+ThatDudeinBlue review DoctaM3 Ferrari
Proud owner of a '16 GTI 4dr 6mt. Can't stop smiling every time I go for a drive. Awesome vid! Can't wait to get mine tuned
hey man really appreciate how you’ve talked about the details of the car. Dynamics, engine, practicality and other features and layout of the car.
I'd love to have one of these as a daily
No you wouldnt
+TheXenon shut up
Well why not? Reliability?
man i absolutely love mine! wooh can you squeeze some NIIICE power out of these little cars, throw somelight rims and super grippy tires on and some nice traction/suspension mods. oooh bby....
MotionAutoTv really?? A golf gti??😂😂
Patrick: is plasti dip a mod?
Squidward: no Patrick plasti dip isn't a mod
👍
Window tint isn't a mod, either.
+BB-8 face palm✋🏻
This was an awesome review. I really appreciate how level headed and logical you are throughout your videos! That alone makes me respect your opinion. I drove a 2016 gi a few months back and ordered one, it's been 'in transit' for 12 days. Hope it gets here soon, my 2 TDI's are going back.
I got excited thinking it was backfiring but must the mic bumping...
+Petrol360 it backfires. trust me lol
Ohhh they backfire like a mother
+cj tantay Was that all backfire? Dang
Seems like all the VW 2.0T's backfire with a tune. My buddy has an '08 that happens to be straight piped for the most part (not on purpose), and it backfires like a motherfucker. Even when he manages to get the muffler to stay on for a little while it still backfires
Man that's crazy! I thought he would say something about it if it did it that much.
I have had my mk6 gti for a little over a month and it is amazing.
not sure if ur buddy knows about the fake sound coming thru the speakers on throttle. called "soundkator" it can be disabled with OBD11
I love my GTI! Its so much fun and extremely practical
No it's not
+TheXenon You wouldn't say that if you had actually driven one, they're absolutely mad little hatches that just go and go and go. As daily drivers they're some of the best cars I know.
+TheXenon your entitled to your opinion and i quite enjoy mine!
+Connor C hows the insurance on the gti? is it good as your first car?
+Pablo Rodriguez its a fantastic first car but i will admit since im only 17 insurance is a bit crazy
Love the videos. I admire the fact you do your best not to be biased toward any make or model. You seem to truly just enjoy driving all types of automobiles. I fell in love with the GTI when I sold Volkswagens... Shit was so torquey stock... Cliché but the MK7 GTI is actually my favorite Volkswagen...
This is the review I've been waiting for all year, good stuff David!
just had mine last week, exactly same than this one, 4 doors, same colors, same wheels, full leather. +open roof and lots of options. for sure, great car. my first golf, my first gti. great toy :)
Congrats on 400k subs. Won't be long before your at a half a MILLION!
Those are an amazing mod and totally wish it came factory in North America.

seriously.... these videos are the only things that keep me sane. And out of all the car review channels David does it best in my opinion.
I like the way David expresses his thoughts on cars.
If he put a intake on it and a full 2 inch turbo back it makes a big difference in sound
Do you guys in the US have the Mk7 R? It's a 300hp AWD version of the Golf. Really fun and you can get with a manual or the DSG.
On a side note. I drive a 1.2TSI Mk7 with just 85hp (sadly) but it's a great daily driver. Valkyrie😍 I literally had that song on replay for weeks
I picked the Focus ST. These cars sounds like some exotic sports car in person with an exhaust
Your friend but you?
TheXenon s197 Mustang V6 w/ headers, full exhaust, cai and tune. maybe pushing a bit of 200whp. nothing to brag about.
Take your smart ass elsewhere.
+Mela Pelas I brought it back.
I really wish speed3s got more attention than they do. I mean fwd does suck, but they are a bargain. They have a great motor that loves mods, its handling capabilities are fantastic (if can do .91gs in turning), and it's pretty comfortable and kinda unique.

I drive an Infiniti and I'd like to see you review one because I love the VQ engine. Remove the resonator and add a small turbo and you have one sweet ride.
How about you review it yourself huh?
TheXenon I will once I'm finished building it. Currently, being winter it's too cold with no garage to finish it.
+DefiantShadows k
He's reviewd a 350 and 370.. Both with VQs
+Smash Da Gas True...I gotta get mine finished to represent the 4 door VQs
favorite is the mk2 with a vr6 swap, crazy fun to drive in the mountains
As someone who lives next to Germany, I see GTIs, Leon Cupras, Octavia RS' and Audi S3s wich are all the same car, pretty much every day and you also hear every day on the Radio about 18 year olds who have deadly accidents with these things. Got a Mk6 GTI for my first car, I absolutely love it to death
It’s the perfect mix of fun fast and comfortable
I love my gti. In my opinion it’s perfect because it’s very fun to drive and handles great and it also is comfortable.
400,000 subs, 500,000 coming soon 👌
Great review, I'm a little bias since I own one for a daily, but it's indeed a great overall fun drive for my daily commutes.
My dad and I just got a 2016 Gti. It's so fun stock.
Love my GTi, despite it's multitude of problems. Two thermostats, bad clock spring and random electrical issues later...
David i wish your would do a review of a MK5 gti all done up like this one :(
the dsg auto as a daily for the last 6 months for me. easy fun and dont miss the manual
surprised to see no intake. seems like a no brainer and is super simple to DIY.
I've had GTIs for years and I finally stepped it up to the Golf R. As much as I like the R I wonder if I should have saved the $ and built the GTI. Oh well I guess I have to save for stage 3.
That music was spot on, David! Good choice.
Thanks
I agree, this clutch is very light. Also, 1st and 2nd gear are really long.
Wow that guy seems to be a huge LIGHTS fan. I respect that 👍
I still have to buy VWR lowering springs for mine.
Hey David, can you review a 2G Eclipse GSX if you can find one? Thanks
not sure gti mk7 is so much better to definitely change my gti mk6 for it, but it is more refined for sure.
if you are thinking about getting this car, do it. you will not regret it
I wish you drove the one with the performance pack! lsd and upgraded brake make this car super incredible!
I just drove a 2016 GTI today... I was shocked at how good it was. I just traded my mk6 golf TDI.
I drove a tuned gti once and it was soo much faster than stock. I work at a vw dealership and unfortunately, I was driving it to complete an oil consumption test. Too bad warranty doesn't cover brand new cars that are tuned
Love this car so much! Just picked up a 2016 GTI S today with DSG transmission so wifey can drive it too.
Are the DSGs in them reliable? I test drove one and love it.
They are basically the same type of transmission used in the Audi's. I would trust this DSG over any Ford or Hyundai auto any day.
hey David can you do an update video on zach's hatch and what's going on with that car
So glad you did another gti, i love mine. you should try a mk7 golf r or a mk6 gti k04
David, I wish you could do a review on a Ford Focus RS, the one with 5 cylinder engine! I often drive one (as a passenger) and it sounds, goes and feels amazing!
I laughed when you said its freezing out 40 degrees where I'm from is pretty warm for winter
More on the 240 soon? ive really been into that series because its something that i would love to do myself. cant wait to see more on it!
my dad just bought the golf R and that thing is pretty insane
When are you driving a modified MK7 GTI and Golf R? The MK8 is almost here!
What Kind of Springs on it?
that sonic sounding music in the intro
Hey David could you try to find an 05-07 Subaru Legacy GT or Spec B. or any Forester XT to review? Love your videos and I'm a huge Subaru guy. And no 8+ Subaru's is not enough for me. Keep doing what you're doing and DON'T STOP!
That's a clean ass looking GTI. Very subtle look to it.
i remember VW was giving away gopros when you buy a GTI
MkIV R32 or Gti with a 2.8l 24v VR6! David you should dring finding a Vr6 to drive!
These things are stupid fast for what they are! and fun as hell to drive!!
Great review! Those cars are super fun!
why is the impreza not a hot hatch? or is it and David just didn't say it was
In Australia we dont have hand brakes in these we got the electric brake
Nice review David! This will probably be one of my first cars, Idk, can't wait to find out in 3 to 4 years from now. I'm 14 btw, living in the state of New Jersey if anyone's curious.
Blenderrrrrrr *shift* bleennndeerrrrrrrrrrrr
You should review a audi a3 or s3.
+Matix700 It's still just a golf.
Top Gear is a Joke no, its the same chassis not the same power and golf was fwd not quattro..
Matix700
the Golf R is the same thing as a S3 no difference in any way. Watch any other review on it. Quattro is a RWD biased drive train; the A3 platform is 95% FWD and 5% RWD until the front wheels slip to put up to and no more than 50% to the RWD.
+Top Gear is a Joke ^^^I work for Audi, can confirm. A3 is just a fancy Jetta.
People thought it sounded cool and kind of like a 2 step but I was not a fan of it
Love my Mk7 GTI. Still holding off on the stage 1 tune for it. Can't bring myself to pull the trigger.
+Nick Catelli Stage 2 Eurodyne here...pulls like a train!
Eric U stock clutch?
David is going to hit 1mil subs next year, I guarantee it.
