    I've owned a 435i xdrive for 3 years now. I live in northern canada ... temps get to -40c or lower in the winter and the things I hate the most is THE BATTERY SUCKS FOR WINTER "Low battery" warnings. low profile tires go flat in temp changes. and in the spring you'll get the drive train malfunction because I think one of the sensors might get exposed to moisture and freeze overnight. But other than that I freaking love it. Lots of power, looks sexy and with the msport exhaust it sounds really good.!!

I'm considering the M435 as a replacement car, but after hearing you speak about the fans overheating, ruptured cooling pipe etc, I am now scared to have a another BMW. Owned a 550i a few years back and the fan also failed, had gearbox issues, oil leak from gasket etc. I got rid of it within 15 months and bought the 370. People say BMW's are reliable, but I find that outside of motorplan they become less so. Had my 2009 370z for 6 years and not a day's problem with it which is kind of unbelievable considering it was an 11 year old car.

      BMW are reliable as long as you maintain them. If you bought yours second hand, there is no way of telling how the previous owner took care of it and may require a lot of money to repair it. Best to buy brand new or used that have never had any mods on it prior. Never buy a car that is dropped and modded because you can best bet they drove the shit out of it.

    As a prospective 4 series buyer, thanks for the video! I have a few questions:
    1. Do you know why the oil filter housing gasket/valve cover gasket starts leaking at such low mileage? Are there any ways to prevent it from leaking? Are there after market parts that are reliable alternatives?
    2. I've read that the N55 water pump fails at around 60k for some(some even being shortly after being replaced/and some lasting to 100k) without any warning. Are there any alternatives that are more reliable? I'd like an 435i for commuting with/road trips, but having a water pump that randomly fails is my biggest concern. Of course, anything can go wrong on longer trips and with mileage, but when it's common enough to be mentioned through out forums, its a bit of a worry.

    • @SimplyCarThings
      @SimplyCarThings  4 года назад +6

      Matthew I im not sure why the oil filter housing gasket leaks so early, however id just attribute it to a fairly mediocre design along with a cheap gasket, its not a huge deal though, i’m at 56k miles on my M235i and no signs of any leakage. The water pump on these newer EWG variant N55’s like in the 435i are much more reliable and less problematic than prior years so i wouldnt worry about it too much! thanks for watching man 👍🏼

      @@SimplyCarThings without going into detail. I'll talk strictly on feel. Test drove 435i auto. 440i auto. 335i auto. 340i auto and ended up buying a 435i manual.
      From 435 to 440 2016/2017 - what I felt wasn't hugely different. Handling felt the same, the car felt nice and blindspot etc features were conveniences but nothing between the 435/440 felt like "this is a different vehicle entirely". Turns feel heavier on the 435 compared to the 440 but very barely noticeable and could entirely have been attributed to tires. Both vehicles were used at the dealership. 435 was a vert and both cars were driven on the same road/day. Didn't really feel something massive.
      For the 335i I drove it before driving a 340 but after driving a 435i (not a 440).
      when I drove it I felt like okay its zippy and nice but nothing blew me away.
      That's until I test drove a 2017 340i. Holy shit was my first reaction. Feathering the pedal felt like it was maybe 60% faster (it wasn't). Corners felt sharper, almost like there was more body roll but the cabin was designed to move better. Its really hard to explain but when driving it. I would never go 35 over 40i on the 3 series. Engine aside the cars handling itself felt really refined.

As a sidenote i would say the 4 series is the better daily because of it being the "higher class" with better tech, more daily friendly suspension and roughly the same used price. But the 2 series m pack is the purer, nimbler more driver focused car. Its utterly fun!

      I love the E92 M3 as well, but the problem is most aren't looking to get into one. As good of a car it is, for most people it's not a practical daily driver due to the higher maintenance, fuel costs, and lack of low end torque associated with it. For $25k you can get a pretty low mileage 435i (25-35k miles) where as an E92 M3 in that price range is around $35k+ If you're looking for the best performing car, the M3 is by far the better choice, but it's definitely not the most practical.
