The golden retriever is one of the most popular dog breed in the United States. This breed is extremely friendly and sound making him especially popular as a family pet. The breed’s intelligence and trainability makes him a highly capable working dog as well. If you are considering a Golden Retriever as your next pet here are five things you should know.
5. The golden retriever’s coat requires regular grooming to maintain it’s beauty and function. You should bathe your Golden Retriever occasionally. They should be groomed weekly. During their semi annual shed daily grooming is required. In addition their ears should be cleaned regularly.

Many of these dogs don’t maintain the sweet, gentle, nature of the breed. Be sure to research and buy your Golden Retriever from a reputable breeder or locate a healthy one at your local shelter.
2. Goldens love people! However, this love can lead to excitement, that leads to jumping and other inappropriate behavior when greeting people. Be sure to obedience train and socialize your Golden Retriever. Golden are easy to train and you will reap the benefits of your investment when your dog is full grown.
1. Originally bred for demanding work, Goldens are active dogs. They require 60-90 minutes of hard exercise daily. The most obvious around the home activity for a Golden is a long game of fetch. Like other retriever breeds, Goldens are naturally "mouthy," and they're happiest when they have something to carry in their mouths. Other good sports for the breed are obedience, agility, and dock diving. Despite its wonderful and gentle nature this is a working breed and working breeds need a job. Absent of a job, activity, or routine you’re likely to see bad behaviors out of your Golden Retriver.

Yeah, I was honestly going to say something like;
#6 Don't think 'pet', think 'friend' or 'family'
I mean that. I don't think Goldens do well unless fully included with the family. They are more human focused than most dogs. To say they love people is an understatement. It's a matter of degrees... but goldens really like to be included... hanging out inside with their humans, following them around, taken along for a grocery run etc. etc. To be excluded is harder on them than most other dogs I think. Include them in your life, and they are happiest.
#7 if you are unable to get along with a Golden Retriever, seek professional help, there is something wrong with you.

My Golden passed away 3 weeks ago, she was 13 and a half. I'm getting a 3 month old Golden puppy in a couple days and I'm super excited. Best dogs ever

I love Goldens. I’ve always had them. Never any other breed. They truly are amazing dogs. They may not seem like the type to guard. They are SO protective over their family/pack. And I mean that. They are VERY protective they love people but they know the dangerous people and the safe good ones.

With the vast majority of attention being put on stronger, tougher, and/or more high-driven breeds such as the American Pit Bull, Boerboel, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, etc., it is just as welcoming to hear softer (for lack of a better word) breeds. This is a dog breed channel after all.
I Care indeed my friend, as an owner of an American pitbull terrier what I get annoyed at the most is how the fellow community of American pitbull terrier owners bad mouth this wonderful breed. Now not all of them do but many of them do and that is what I don't like about the community of the APBT. I'm not a fan of all dogs but I am a fan of all working breeds big or small and the Golden Retriever is one hell of a working dog in my eyes. I would love to go duck hunting with this breed any day
yeah, I'm partial to Pit Bulls and Mastiffs myself, but I like that the channel is highlighting other types of dogs too, because there are people who are really passionate about them too. All dogs are very interesting.
Truthful guy Santana I’m not a fan of pit bulls because one attacked my golden retriever and killed it about 2 months ago, which was extremely sad for my family and I but today we picked up a brand new golden retriever puppy who we named Henry.

Good video Zeke! Before I got involved with bully breeds, I had a female Golden Retriever. Hands down best dog I've ever owned. She lived to be 13 years old, and was active till her last days.

My cousins had a Golden Retriever when I was a kid. He has since passed, but he was such an amazing dog. This breed alone proves that dogs indeed are man's best friend. Gentle, playful, and loving, I'm going to get one when I have kids, for sure.

Im so proud to own a golden retriever😍 Best dog I could ever wish for💞 He is so sweet and caring and he lovesss attention!❤️ And he loves long walks😁 He also learns tricks very fast I taught him the paw command in less then 10 minutes😂❤️
I like the five things about the golden retriever tfs it. We got our first golden retriever last fall Sept 2018 and we sure do enjoy him. We what to train him as a service dog, I call him chaplin Triever!

Number ONe should have been: Goldens are extremely clingy dogs,so if they are left alone for long periods of time,they will suffer.If you can't give them alot of care and attention(That goes for all dogs,but these in particular)don't get one.I have worked with dogs and cats for over 30 years and this is,in my opinion,the best dog breed bar none.

Wanting isn't enough. It's a serious commitment. Vet/medical when needed, care when you go away on vacation or business trip where you can't take the dog. Frankly, more like a kid than a cat.
That said, you heard the most important bit of advice in there; there are precisely two ways to consider getting a Golden. Research and locate reputable breeders. REPUTABLE. They exist. Alternatively, rescues. Major cities will sometimes even have Golden rescue groups.
They are fairly large, they needs lots of attention, they shed constantly... get a good vacuum cleaner. Really good. But with those caveats... I can't say anything bad about Golden Retrievers. My best friend is a Golden. I can't talk you out of it, and won't, I will just urge you to make certain it's a commitment you can take on.

I am a stay-at-home-mom. My husband and I have three kids from 3 to 6 y old. We can offer at least two slow walks (with little kids) and one long walk (without kids) a day, plus some mental activity throughout the day - and a lot of love. Would it be enough for a Golden Retriever? I have loved Goldens and wanted my own for 14 years now, and I think it soon might be time for us to adopt our first animal friend. But I want to be 100 pct sure that we can activate him/her enough.
I think its fine.. if u aleast walk the dog half a hour every day and give it enough space to play outside.. these dogs like to stay with people, it would be sad to see them sit alone in a house the whole day... happens so often..

You should do one of boxers they are technically in the bully breed list they were crossed with the original old English bulldog and bully breads are my favorite types of breeds they're working dog with a great origin story

+chris sorrentino. You are very misinformed. Goldens have a thick undercoat and are able to stand colder climates and colder water. Goldens also have a softer bite to hold game and also a better nose to find game. Goldens are also more intelligent (easier to train) than Labs. Labs are #7 on the intelligence list while Goldens come in at #4. Although I will not argue the fact that Labs are Great dogs in whatever they are trained to do, but the Goldens excel. AND Goldens are the best family dog in the world!!!

My puppy will be a service dog but our breeder will have the puppies registered in the akc can she still do agility and work my Nana says that the akc is very strict in stuff like that
This is true we are in a caravan and we have one there is hair all over the place they are such good family pets and they love playing he is a food monster he will eat anything . If we are In the caravan he will sleep all day he is lazy and crazy like this comment if you have a crazy golden retriever 😀. And when ever we are sick he will comfort uss and when ever we get fire wood he always grabs some for uss
And ours is called buddy and he is stuben so when we go on a walk and he dossent want to go back he will lie down

Do Goldies bark a lot? I like quiet environments and dogs that bark too much are not for me. I might get a Goldie next if they are relatively quiet.

My Goldens are amazing swimmers and have free reign to the pool which they use all day everyday of the year thanks to our tropical climate here in Southeast Asia.
I agree with others on the forum that our Goldens are not pets but family members. To be honest they don’t know they are dogs. They really are special.
I feel like Goldens deserve a more encouraging and less matter of fact description. They are love embodied in a dog. I agree you should research and do your best to find an excellent breeder. Goldens are a gift. Treat them like they deserve to be treated -- they are valued family members.

I wish I watched this 4 days before because 3 days ago I was walking home from school and I found a stray golden retriever with no collar and it was at the top of a gated house and I didn't know how to react and I looked it in the eyes then it barked and chased me up a hill but because I am one of the fastest kids In my school I can run really fast so it couldn't catch up but then I Turned around and it went further up the hill then left and I sprinted all the way too my house and I was 5 mins away so I ran it in 3 mins but also when the dog was casing me I said he is either going to bite me or do something else so I ran for my life and any way that's it
It was good of you to run away. stray dogs often have no domestic training and can be very dangerous. Not every dog is good. Some dogs are very bad. Also take caution and move away if you don't know the dog personally.
They are good dogs! but some can be dominant and that ive experienced this in a dog park it attacked my Lab, and my Lab retaliated and went for the Retreiver! so i never let my dog near that retreiver again

Hip problems and cancer are the two big reasons you want to use a trustable breeder. You're gonna fall in love with their personalities and you don't want to lose them in 5 or 6 years. You also need to clean their ears weekly as their hairy long ears are prime breeding grounds for infections

As someone who owns a golden, you need to brush them daily. Maybe mine is wild but his coat get knotted so quickly
Golden Retrievers are great dogs. But I hate it when breeds become popular because I believe that it dilutes the quality of stock within the breed. Similar to other breeds like the Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, and other popular dog breeds. So, I like niche breeds that aren't as well-known compared to these dogs, like the Bull Terrier. I also dislike it when breeds have been altered from the original purpose. Golden Retrievers were originally intended to be gun dogs and not companion dogs.
