I took mine outside this morning in an area with no emi . The silver dollar on the surface was reading 60s with channel 8 and 89 with channel 1. This seems to match your results on a deep target.
Hi Lyle. Are you certain it's an area with no EMI? Perhaps it only seems like there is no EMI, due to the Vortex being quiet in EMI? Have you got another SMF detector to compare the EMI to in that area?
***** Calabash, here's my new theory on what's happening lol. The Vortex is silent in EMI, even at pretty much maximum sensitivity. I've never seen anything even close to such effective EMI mitigation at that high sensitivity level. The Vortex doesn't have an automatic noise cancel, and perhaps that's by design, because it doesn't need it. In other words, an EMI filter is automatically turned on when the Vortex is in SMF mode. A filter method is very different from other detectors that scans through channels. EMI can be differentiated from a target signal, because most EMI is weaker than most target signals. It's only when the target is weak and/or deep that it can't be differentiated from EMI. So if a filter is used to block out most of the EMI (the weaker signals), it will also take out or negatively affect the weaker coin signals, which is exactly what seems to be happening on that deep half in SMF mode. In addition, given the vast ID difference between low and high channels, I'm thinking the Vortex has an abnormally high frequency shift. Perhaps that's by design as well, and may at least somewhat negate the need for differently weighted SMF modes. For example, I believe the default is channel 4. That's likely a mid weighted frequency. Channel 1 is likely weighted low, and that's why the high conductor silver gets a better ID on that channel 1.
I think you do a good honest job of showing things..I went back to check out some of your Nexus videos but there gone...Was there a dispute with the company or something..Maybe you could do a video about that since others have asked about it..
It would take a significant shift in the frequencies when changing channels settings for such a large change in the ID. If you knew what the frequencies were you could use that to your advantage in the field. The Apex was a scrambled basket case before the update. Maybe they can update the Vortex and bring it up to par.
Great video CD but for me it’s an extremely hard pass on any of these Garrett detectors, why would anyone buy a Garrett over a Minelab, XP and Nokta is beyond me😊
Great video Calabash! Would be nice if they showed at least a sliding scale of how the freq shift effects the Multi-freq towards high or low conductors. I wonder if you changed the freq shift and ground balanced to see if you could get extra depth on the target. You would think these metal detectors would go through thousands of hours of testing to discover these things before they are released. How does it do with a coin on edge?
I didn't realize that the 3 level Ferrous/conductive bars only appear in multifrequency. When the Vortex was in single freq there's only the conductive indicator bar.
Hello Calabash. Do you think the issue the VDI reading lower than in single frequency has any relation to the issues you were having with it bricking on you earlier,( bug in system)? Or has that been resolved? Keep up the great test videos. 👍🏻
@calabashdiggeradventures perfect, I'm in Illinois, my vortex will be here Wednesday and we are dealing with low 20's and high teens right now. I'll have to slap a Hot Hands on the back to keep it warm maybe lol

@@DIGA-m7q Its an area behind my house with no powerlines or buried cables. My Triple score is quiet there at max(15) sensitivity.
I just tested at another location 200ft from house next to a swamp, again no cables nearby, same result.

Will have some more videos up on the topic..
Thanks for imformation and demonstration. Seems like Vortex needs some work or updates for improvement.
I’d be curious to see a head to head with a Vanquish 540 in your soil and EMI conditions. That could be really embarrassing for Garrett.
My money is on the 540, easy win!!

Your boy Iffy Signals had a good day a beautiful Indian head penny , silver mercury dime and a ring 💍
Yes it was
Perfect! Thanks.
You're welcome!
Thank you sir

Will ground balance in test garden too neutral of soil. Will try the coin on edge
Thanks for the testing. Walking out in the field or beach you'd be all over the place with shifting vdi.
Interesting ,thanks CD!
You bet

Correct..
The lcd screen seems very slow. A bit like the simplex when it's cold.
Yeah I looked back at the video screen was being affected by the cold IMO
Definitely in need of some work...
Hopefully updates will be on the way.
That's interesting!

It locked twice but no issues after that. 14 hours first charge and seems to be charging better. Will let the battery drain and see how it does.
what's your temp down there? your screen looked like it was cold lagging
30s...I noticed that too...

Garrett going backwards in the market 😂

Shake that thing down good.

Very confusing machine, I just may go buy a Apex
@@jomon723 It seems as easy to use as the Apex to me, doesn't look complicated at all.
