I dunno, I think green hair and over 200 tiny unicorn statues makes me trust you more. I also think the finished dress looks phenomenal on you...you’re an astoundingly beautiful person!
@@lauracarrier6158 It's the unicorns that make her schiesty. She uses them to cast an enchantment that even works on infants and old women. Angela Clayton has mesmerized both my mother and my grand daughters. I know a couple other CosTubers who have them -- the unicorns-- same result to a lesser degree because they don't own as many.
Personally, I'm more likely to trust someone with bright green hair and hundreds of unicorn figurines than many others. At least there's a better chance of honesty! Love your humour and your skills. You make the day happy. Thank you!
I 100% agree with you on the review. I felt the same and certainly hope no one sends you nasty DMs about it. The dress looks really great well done on overcoming the technical challenges.
While I don't share Angela's opinion of the show, I thought I would explain why I loved it since it seemed as though some don't understand why others do. In my case, I thought the show did an excellent job demonstrating how differences (in the show's case, an extreme talent) affect people and how they can be extremely isolating. The bigger the difference, the more isolating it becomes. For Beth, her difference isolated her not only physically by bringing her to competitions all over the country/world, but also socially by making it hard to relate to other people. But the show also shows the flip side because in the end Beth finds through chess a wonderful community of close friends who understand her. While Beth's talent is an extreme example of a difference, everybody has a difference that sets them about from others, whether it be a talent, a disability, or otherwise, and can therefore see themselves in Beth. The show demonstrates the complex ways differences affect people. How they can isolate but also provide community. How they can be a source of hardship but also a source of pride. And in the end, the show demonstrates how once Beth is able to find healthy coping mechanisms and outlets for the isolation and difficulties her difference generates for her, her perspective of her difference is able to change to become more positive. Since everybody has their own differences, this is a lesson that everybody can apply to their own life. That is why I found the show relatable, thought provoking, and overall enjoyable.
The costuming and set design was what made Queen's Gambit for me. I agree that it was pretty predictable. Great dress, as always! On first glance I thought that you had dyed your hair red! I'm glad you still have your green hair though.
Totally agree with you about the show XD I definitely stuck with watching it for mostly the aesthetic and like 3% the plot. Deceptively difficult projects are the WORST but this turned out gorgeous!!!
There is a difference between 'culturally important' and 'entertaining' most media doesn't fall into both categories, and that's okay! I'm glad you ended up with a dress that swished so nicely and I can't wait to see what other projects you choose to share in the future.
I am SO happy to see your pup happily frolicking and playing in the snow!!! He must be feeling pretty good these days! And the dress could NOT be any cuter!!!
This is so beautiful! And who gives a fluff if people don't understand why you didn't like the show; didn't get the hype over it either. You do you and keep making your beautiful creations.
Angela, I admire you so much for sticking with this dress until you kicked butt! Absolutely wonderful. Also love the designs on the Marvelous Mrs Maisal and patiently waiting the return.
The outfits I’m obsessed with and would love to have from that show are the dress she wears in Paris when she loses and the outfit at the end of the show with the hat and everything. I love the costuming so much!
I just wanted to show you some appreciation. You always put so much hard diligent work into your videos and your voice overs are so genuine and funny and totally show your personality. I love watching your videos even though I'm a beginner at sewing but I always love seeing what you can do and gather inspiration for future me. Keep being awesome!
I agree, I love how much work she puts into her projects. I feel she’s the kind of person where what you see is what you get. She seems like a passionate, artistic, sincerely sweet person. I love her personality.
The dress is lovely, and you look beautiful in it (wig and all)!! And I loved seeing your studio assistant playing around you at the end...: the Queen's Gambol!
The final result looks great, and many opportunities for swishing about when the weather warms up later in the year! 😃 Your dedication to the photos, and posing in the snow is to be commended. I tip my hat to you in appreciation. 🎩 Posie also looks so cute bouncing around in the snow. 🐶
Wow! I have never seen the movie but I can totally appreciate the amount of work you put into the dress!!! And I would love it if you have this pattern published through McCall's and available for the public! This much work shouldn't go unnoticed!
From a green haired girl to a pink haired girl. I can trust you completely! Because girlfriend we obviously have the unapologetic nerve to be honest to ourselves and say it like it is! The dress is so lovely!!!! When I was 5i had Ann Easter dress that did this swoosh twirly thing. It was my favorite dress!!! I have spent the rest of my life looking for a dress that would do that! (I'm 45 now lol) this type of flow in a dress is life changing! I'm sure you will get years of love out of it! Great work!
I went back and blew up the the vid part where we see the show and the dress, and yours is better. When I look closely at the bodice of the dress in the show, it looks kind of rumply, like it isn't sewn or fitted well? Yours is definitely better.
Your dress is amazing and the vintage pattern you chose looks spot on. I loved the Queen's Gambit. She was smart about people and chess. Did you know it was based on a true story.
Gingham is so great and there are hardly any in the stores. Thanks for your honesty some projects are bears. I watched the first few episodes and then skipped to the end. I recommend you watch the finale - it recaps so much it can almost stand alone, and was enjoyable.
I personally love good detailing. I enjoy looking at seams, hems, collars, cuffs etc. A garment that makes you want to study how it was done. This is one of those. Beautiful, Thanks for all the work.
This is a very inconsequential comment but when you mentioned how hard it was to reconstruct this dress even with your skill!! I’m a beginner and I hate how often I fail. But, hearing you say it took almost nine tries reminds me that sewing is just super hard!
This is sooooo similar to the show's dress. It's definitely a project I WANT and WILL do after watching the Queens Gambit and all those marvelous garments!
it's gorgeous!! i'm so glad you persevered. i loved seeing the notch trick for getting the swoosh factor in the skirt--wow...who knew? you look amazing in the dress and in the intro/outro. thank you so very much for sharing yourself with us! xoxoxoxoxo
This dress was love at first sight for me, searched for the pattern high and low at the beginning when finally someone suggested 2903. I got the coveted pattern just to realize it's way over my sewing skills so that's going to be long time coming. I see more than 7 mock up/ failed attempts in my future. Your version is amazing. Thank you for making your pattern available and for the hint on the square size. Looking forward to gather a collection of gingham when I find a good supplier.
This is the cutest dress! I think I need to become a patron because there are 3 cuts of gingham staring at me, wanting to become this dress. Just too cute for words.
I love how honest you are with the process I find myself getting frustrated and giving up on some projects...i just need to get back at it with a fresh start
I fell in love with is dress the moment I saw it on screen, so thank you for making it! I might just have to become a patron just for the pattern. It turned out beautifully!
LOVE this dress...I don't watch ANY TV shows at all. only sewing videos and enjoy yours. Please don't apologise for your life choices. We're all different.
You look lovely. The dress is really amazing. I’m glad you put the shots of what you were going for as I have never seen the show. I think I’m a good 10 years behind now maybe more.
Your dress is absolutely beautifully, I like the fit, the print and the twirl, I love everything about it. It looks terrific on you. I can't get over the way it looks when you spin! BTW you are simply the most beautiful model McCall's on their pattern covers. Beautiful!
The dress turned out beautiful! Thank you for letting us know your sewing woes --when I hear you say you made 7 muslins that didn't turn out as planned, I feel so much more encouraged when one of my makes fails. Sewing is hard, yo! l'd love to see a whole series of TV-show and movie-inspired garments.
That dress is so good. I did love the show, but I wonder if it was because I saw it pretty early on, so it wasn't terribly hyped for me. Sometimes, when so many people are crazy about a show,by the time I usually get to see things, I get a bit letdown. Pandemic life, I'm home to see things rather on time and not wait months (or years)
I felt exactly the same way about The Queens Gambit. I found the charter hard to get to know- she had walls up the entire time that kept her aloof and I wasn't that interested in her as a character but I did watch it all and it was ok. I just didn't get the why people LOVED it.
This dress is very beautiful and incredibly flattering. I love watching your videos, especially since you exhibit a talent and patience I can only hope to have one day. I always look forward to your next videos, thank you !
If it helps, even those who loved The Queens Gambit, often missed the point. Hint: it isn't about her chess skills nearly so much as it's about a life that begins as the black pawn (note the dark, drab clothing and page boy haircut at the beginning) and rises to become the white queen (note the white coat and hat at the end) through a life of adversity (some placed on her, some she brings on herself.) What surprises me is that you were not fascinated by the use of wardrobe to illustrate that evolution. Regardless of whether you loved it or hated it, though, it would be a great disservice to both the book and the movie if anyone tells at you for it. Because that would make the female empowerment theme that runs throughout null and void. Lol
No RUclipsr has ever been so relatable as when you said that, due to past traumas, you generally avoid using invisible zippers in your own creations
Agreed, heartily.
I dunno, I think green hair and over 200 tiny unicorn statues makes me trust you more.
I also think the finished dress looks phenomenal on you...you’re an astoundingly beautiful person!
This needs to be like a whole series of queen's gambit outfits. I love her white dress with the button tab shoulders that she wears in mexico.
I would trust your sewing competence even if you owned 11 million unicorn figurines.
Truth!
ESPECIALLY because she owns 11 million unicorn figurines!
I’ve watched her video where she make a the unicorn shelf countless time. I can’t explain why I like it so much.
@@lauracarrier6158 it’s just. So. Satisfying. To watch another nerd take such care over their collection! For me, anyway.

This deceptively tricky project turned out so beautifully. I think the dress is lovely and you in it. Also puppy in the snow is to cute.
If it’s deceptively tricky - it seemed really difficult but turned out super simple, right?

I didn’t realize we’re practically the same size and height! This dress is so so beautiful and I feel very inspired to make more vintage garments
Totally agree with you about the show XD I definitely stuck with watching it for mostly the aesthetic and like 3% the plot. Deceptively difficult projects are the WORST but this turned out gorgeous!!!
the swirl is literally magical. i've never seen something just float like that irl, congrats!!
The dress turned out great! And I appreciate the honest review..... not everyone has to jump on the band wagon
Your dog frolicking in the snow is the wholesome content the world needs.
My mind could not figure out those pleats/gores/whatever those are on the skirt!!! I was OBSESSED
The dress turned out just wonderful! So swishy but without a ton of seams, just perfect. And I loved the music for this video, it was perfect for it.

Idk in my experience, the more unicorn statues a person has the more trustworthy they are
I'm not really a fan of gingham so I didn't think I'd see a dress in it I actually like :o Well fought and the result looks really good!
I never would’ve thought to turn it on the diagonal. I plan to make a sundress and I think I will make it out of black gingham.
Well, this makes me feel better about being on my third toile trying to figure out how to get properly fitting pants. Never give up!
better to do a hundred toiles than try it with your good fabric and ruin it!
