Another fantastic thing about crimson fury's special in TM1 is being an escape tool, in a sense. Combining the juggling effect and the car's speed you can fly under other cars that would massacre you with collision damage if you hit them with the special.

TM3 Roadkill always surprises me, using his special as a ram weapon really negates a lot of the negatives for me. Always a pleasant surprise

It's funny because I'm finding the most success with speedrunning tim black as yellow jacket because the way the game wants you to play him is the optimal way to get kills quickly when using any car. To get the turbo ram bonus on his special you want enemies who aren't actively fleeing from you because you are about middle of the road in terms of speed. So when the enemy comes after you, your special will lock them in place long enough to get multiple powerful weapons off and obliterate the opponent quickly.

  • @sev2136

TM1 Crimson fury has a soft spot for me, It feels so rewarding hitting one laser after another and doing a pretty respectable amount of damage output. An upside you didn't mention is the laser has one of if not the fastest recharges in the game so you can stockpile six shots that juggle very quickly, that said hitting the laser can be very tricky given how razer thin it's projectile is.

I think outlaw in TM Black is a little underrated. Since he can shoot 360 degrees around his car, you can sometimes drive circles around an enemy and their AI won’t know what to do. You don’t even need to fire the missiles to do massive damage.

    • @VicariousNickk
      @VicariousNickk  25 дней назад +4

@@termsservice9396 that doesn't make him underrated? Outlaw is one of the most popular characters to be chosen in TM Black for the reasons you stated.
Underrated means that a character is actually good but almost nobody talks about them or plays them

Road Boat is a weird one from the whole "This should have been Roadkill" angle. Death Warrant and Roadkill could have been merged into one vehicle, and I don't think anyone would have noticed. Road Boat even matches Roadkill in a lot of ways. Its a scrappy vehicle, and its special weapon has a major skill component , as is pretty traditional for Roadkill. Personally, I think Road Boat's special with the magnet really invokes a scrapyard, which is what I think of when I think of a "scrap vehicle" that's kind of thrown together, as Roadkill is traditionally.
Yeah, the Roadkill we got has the Blood Missiles, but I feel like that doesn't match the creativity of Roadkill's special in TM2 and Head-On. It's really off-the-wall, but it matches the somewhat more grounded tone and aesthetic of 2012.

Heck yeah! I was hoping you'd make a video like this. Twisted Metal is the holy grail when it comes to underrated/under-appreciated characters. There are so many decent ones that get overlooked in every entry, and I'm glad you gave my boy Yellow Jacket from TMB some love. He's honestly one of my favorite characters to play as, which is exactly why I main him lol.
Now, as for my personal list, I've narrowed it down to my perception of each character based on the ideas they had going for them, as I honestly feel a good amount of characters are highly underrated in their own right, not just based on gameplay alone.
For Twisted Metal 1, I choose Pit Viper. Now, I know: This character is sort of half-assed and has some of the weakest armor in the game, but I like the overall design of the vehicle, I think her special weapon is WAY better than Grasshopper from TM2, and the driver being an undercover assassin hired by the people of LA to take out Calypso is honestly one of the more interesting aspects of the character I REALLY wish she would've been given a second chance, as she was planned for TM Harbor City, which obviously never happened, leaving Pit Viper on the cutting room floor...
For Twisted Metal 2, I have to agree with you on Roadkill. His special weapon can be devastating, if used correctly. Of course, it is a skill gap and can be a bit tricky most times. However, everything you said about this character is absolutely correct. Decent armor, a good special weapon, and the character of Marcus Kane is also intriguing. I wish we could've gotten more story from him, seeing as how he's technically the main protagonist of this series, if you really think about it. But, yeah. Roadkill is awesome.
As for Twisted Metal 3, well, I'm kind of going to cheat on this one, as the character is none-other than *Southern-accent* PRIIIIIMEVAL! (lol, that joke came from some weird comment I received. Sort of like when 72Winabagel said "PIT VIPEEEEERRRR" back in 2008). Anyway, despite Primeval not being playable in the vanilla game, I honestly LOVE the idea for this character. A giant rolling-cage vehicle driven by, what I presume to be, a demonic brute? That's pretty badass in its own right and I could easily see him being featured as an unlockable character in the Twisted Metal: Black universe, which I actually plan on making a story for him in 2025, so there you go lol. And an honorable mention is Firestarter, though mainly for the idea. The execution, unfortunately, is pretty bad. His armor is garbage and the Torch doesn't do nearly enough damage, especially considering that this was the character meant to take Thumper's special weapon from TM1/TM2, but it's nothing in comparison lol. Still, I like the idea of a pyromaniac entering Twisted Metal, though Damien Coles honestly comes off as silly and could've been handled better.
For Twisted Metal 4, I chose Goggle Eyes. Now, I know his special weapon will basically melt the game, but everything else is honestly decent. I like the disgusting yet creative design of his Roach Coach, and the driver honestly has potential. I liked his anxious-personality and his desire to kill bugs. I even made an OC heavily based on him named "Mr. Goggles", who pretty much hates every bug and rodent there ever was, due to them killing his mother when he was a child. (This was back in 2020 when I was sort of re-imagining TM4 characters as their own thing) But, yeah. Goggle Eyes has potential.
Now, for Twisted Metal: Black, I'm honestly kind of mixed between Yellow Jacket and Warthog. I mean, what you said about Yellow Jacket is all true, the car has decent armor (for a taxi cab, at least), the special weapon is awesome and fun to use, and he's basically an all-around decent car. However, I'm also kind of biased when it comes to Warthog in TMB. I know some people absolutely HATE TMB Warthog and would've preferred the Humvee, but I honestly don't mind playing as him. Idk why, but controlling the vehicle feels pretty tight, yet accurate. I mean, it's a station wagon strapped to some tank treads, I wouldn't expect it to be as fluent like Spectre or Crazy 8 lol. But still, TMB Warthog is highly underrated, even if it's not like the rest of the Warthogs in this series.
As for Twisted Metal: Small Brawl, my pick for the most underrated character would have to go to Piecemeal. Idk why, but ever since I was a kid, Piecemeal's design has always been intriguing to me. I mean, this is the only vehicle in the series that takes elements from the others and basically is an amalgamation of several different vehicles featured in the game. From Sweet Tooth, to Mime, to Twister, Piecemeal is basically the Frankenstein monster of Twisted Metal. Very creative.
Now, for Twisted Metal: Head-On, I'm gonna have to go with Crimson Fury. I've always LOVED Crimson Fury in this game. I like the design of the vehicle, the special weapon is decent, and the car is super fast and a blast to play as. I also liked Agent Shepard, too. Such a great character that was done dirty in the TV show (I mean, he's supposed to be working for the FBI, not being the type of guy that the FBI needs to bust lol). But, yeah. Crimson Fury is awesome.
I'm gonna include one from Twisted Metal: Lost as well, and that title goes to 12-Pack. Idk why, but I liked the idea for this character. I mean, a headless horseman driving a stock car? That's pretty interesting, though I do think he would've been a little silly for the world of TMB (However, I think Harbor City was probably going to feature some silly stuff like in TM2, though balanced to make it dark with a little bit of comedy added in). Still, I like Severed Sam and the concept behind him. Makes me wonder what the story would've looked like, had it been developed (Though, I did try to capture this last year when I made the 12-Pack story loosely based on the tale of Mike The Headless Chicken 😂)
And finally, for Twisted Metal (2012), I'm gonna have to say either Death Warrant or Vermin. I absolutely love the design of both vehicles, and it's sad how none of the original vehicles featured in TM2012 have their own distinct driver. Death Warrant honestly has a lot of potential and could easily be driven by another law enforcement character, given the name. Same goes to Vermin, who honestly has one of THE most creative designs and special weapons in the series to date. And despite never playing Twisted Metal 2012, I do like the vehicles featured and would LOVE to make stories for them at some point down the line. But I can only do one character at a time, so they're unfortunately going to have to wait until 2025, which is a bummer, seeing as how they're pretty much sitting there, just waiting to be used in my web series.
But, yeah. That was my list. It's crazy how many characters there are in this series that end up becoming wasted potential. Every character I feel could be handled in many different ways. From Primeval in TMB to Club Kid in TM2, this series has it all. Loved the list, Nick. Hope you liked mine as well 👍

I'm gonna shout out TM2 Hammerhead as being underrated. I never hear anyone say anything good about him, but I actually played as him recently in TM2 and was greatly surprised with how much fun I had. My only complaint is that he's not as armored as he should be/as you'd expect from a monster truck, but that's it. If you hit your opponents with a freeze-and-ram strategy, even without Specials, it's so powerful and so fun. Sure you may die a good handful of times, but Hammerhead in TM2 is around for a good time, not a long time

  • @Rdotmop
    @Rdotmop 24 дня назад +2

TM2 Twister I still stand by being pretty good. Probably one of the hardest characters in the series to actually use the full potential of, but good nonetheless. The tornado tends to stop enemies from attacking (though Thumper seems to always cheat and use his flamethrower anyways don't mess with that guy), and while the special is trapping someone you can lay mines and slowly back up to make the enemies hit them while in the tornado, which can just kill some characters in one or two specials, and you'll pretty much always have multiple specials since Twister regens the special faster than most other characters.
The only problem is that sometimes if you're moving the enemies can just fall out of the special and if you're near walls the enemies will bump you and take damage, but as long as you use it away from walls and stop next to the opponent before using the special (and freeze or shield against Thumper I swear to god) you should be able to trap them in it pretty consistently

You know it’s kinda funny, a lot of the reasons you listed for Crimson Fury I would say the same for TM 2 Twister. The skill gap required to play them, the insane speed and handling, the crazy damage potential from juggle combos where for her you can 1 tap every character in the cast. Not to mention that she stun locks you in place and there’s almost nothing majority of the other cars can do but just sit there and wait to die. Hell even where you bring up majority of people think their special sucks because they don’t know how to use it properly. They even both have the fastest special regen times in their games. Appreciate you helping to sum up my thoughts Nick.

I want to say: Microblast from TM3. I have played this character several times and had luck a few times, but to me he seems good enough for a list of "least used" rather than a true underdog. Of course, maybe I'm just not playing him right. He just isn't as imposing as so many other characters, and against any of the overpowered bosses, it just doesn't feel fair. But, against other players, 100% would play again.

After watching your tier list then commenting on it, just to watch this video and realize that you recognize the power and durability of Road Boat, it's nice to see such an underrated car get some respect
Road Boat is the perfect fit in 2012 to balance out the roster of cars
When I play, I tend to pick 3 cars that all do different things, typically a small, medium, and large vehicle
Before my go to cars would be Crimson Fury, Sweet Tooth, and Darkside, each with a specific role in my playstyle and the tournament.
CF for speed and harassment or race levels, Sweet Tooth for a balance of combat and arsenal reloading (while still being fairly durable) and the Darkside for pure combat levels or if I need time to heal up my other cars
Recently I played again and took Sweet Tooth out of the roster and swapped in Road Boat, only to fall in love with the cars design and playstyle
I like well balanced cars and characters in games, a jack of all trades if you will
Road Boat is that car, a good mixture of speed, handling, armour, damage, and utility, while also having a very good design
I know some people don't like the design, but it's exactly how I would picture a real world car be built for a Twisted Metal tournament.
    Long live Road Boat!

Brimstone doesn’t suck as much as people claim. So him for black.
Yellowjacket for 1. Just middle of the road. Not trash. Not broken. Which means he’s overlooked.
    2 I think I agree with roadkill.
Auger doesn’t get much respect but he’s decent. His special is good and doesn’t lock you into losing half your health like slam did in 2.
With how hard the ice rink bonus game is in head on, I think a lot of people find Axel to be very underwhelming which means he’s the most underrated.

It mostly comes down to his only real upside is how small his vehicle is, his stats are pretty abysmal and his special does very low damage even when you are able to unload 20-30 shots into someone.
