@@SpeakingSalmon91 We had a hard on for dinosaurs so THEN we got Jurassic Park. IDK exactly why ... but I'm convinced speeel-burg is the elite of the HW ped-o elites. I think they needed that subject matter and told him to get creative and figure it out.
Supposedly there were so many technological advancements in 3D from that one movie that we jumped 50 years in the future.
Did you know he wrote Indiana Jones in the script to have taken advantage of a 13yo girl? Thats where Shay Labow came from in the Crystal Skull. That woman...in his script..was impregnated at 13-14 and she kept his son secret because she despised him for it. Thats why she slaps him in the first scene of the first IJ movie and he says "you knew what you were doing...don't play games with me".

How did they make dinos not cool? The game still makes them cool it's just full of jank and questionable design choices
Paperboy's sprite is based on a real kid. He was a programmer's son and a cool dood. When there are no fun loving people with childlike joy involved in a game dev project it is so obvious. This whole project wreaks with "lets cash in" craze.
@@DETHTWUKTAUR Dino Rex was a product of love like everything else Takatsuna Senba directed.
He had a vision and the team tried their best to make a good game, but it was ruined by unreasonable demands from their superiors who forced them to dismantle the game multiple times and remake it from scratch until it turned into an unsalvsgeable mess.
Despite all the problems the game oozes Senba's great sense of style that is also visible in Metal Black.
This game became a running gag among Alexalchemy and some other Puerto Rican players. They kept running it at their charity events and eventually one of the tournaments became so big it capped at 128 entrants!
I'd never play it again if I could be sure.

the director of this game, Takatsuna Senba, had his start animating mecha in the Gundam anime (being one of the directors of Char's Counterattack). He transitioned to sprite and art direction at Taito before directing the pretty stylish shootemups like Gun Frontier and Metal Black. This game was originally supposed to be the "third" in the Gun Frontier trilogy but he was handed a group of new programmers and a genre shift all at once. He said in a later interview that he handed in the final build - along with his resignation letter - at the same time.
This makes sense when looking at this game, it clearly had lots of passion put into it.
Basically a team that wanted to succeed with what little they had, but the stakes were just too much against them.
Such a shame.
We could make a Dino Rex 2 that fixes these problems.

If a sequel of that exists, I can imagine the bonus stage part that was shown in the vid, to be like those Rex games made by Gametornado; L. A. Rex, New York Rex, London Rex, Rio Rex, Miami Rex, and Mexico Rex.
It would be amazing if that were to happen.
The Taito F2 hardware is well documented in MAME (see taito_f2.cpp).
Actually, the Slapshot driver (slapshot.cpp) could be even more interesting for a potential "Dino Rex 2"; it's basically Taito F2 with the F3 palette chip (TC0650FDA), effectively doubling the max colors onscreen, and can throw a lot of data around (see Operation Wolf 3 for an excellent example).

That's one weird evolution.
The creator of Dino Rex was Takatsuna Senba, he made Gun Frontier and Metal Black for Taito and Dino Rex was meant to be his 3rd shmup for them. Buuuut because SF2 was a big deal, the Taito execs made Senba and co turn the whole thing into a fighter. Needless to say, it was a mess and Senba left Taito mid-development, seeing his project getting all butchered like that
@@angelriverasantana7755 Yeah you can piece together kinda what happened just by some of the sprite style, very gunfrontier era looking. (and the fact the rastan sprite is ripped straight from an existing game raised some red flags) its just funny hearing it said like that. Neat info btw

Primal Rage was pretty decent tho.
I know it's not considered good nowadays, but I had a lot of fun with it during my childhood.
the arcade version actually still aged pretty well and holds up to this very day just like the retro mortal kombat series, but the console and pc version are a dump graphically and horribly unplayable everyone should just stick with the arcade version instead.
Would love a modern rebooting of Primal Rage. 😊
Honestly, it still is pretty good, it's just that the Negative Edge button inputs on basically _everything_ make it finger-cramp hell.
The only issue is that every single version of that game that exists outside of legitimate arcade cabinets are flawed ports, due to the original code being unrecoverable. The copy protection the developers put on it was so convoluted that _they_ can't even unlock it, making true 1-1 ports essentially impossible. For now, anyways.

I had this Dinosaur fighting game on the Wii called Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs Strike. I don’t really know what people think of it but it was one of my first times using codes to unlock stuff in games

I'VE FINALLY FOUND IT! I remember playing this at my dad's laptop when I was a kid. Never knew the name (nor searched for it) but I'm glad I got this on recommended!
To be fair, Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus has slightly different claws as well. 10/10 design now.

I don't know what I love more; the Fattysaurus-Rex, or the hysterically flailing Triceratops.
