You know very well that we'd love to see more of this!! 😆 its gorgeous!!!! Id love to see how they look painted and more detailed. You always do amazing work. Take care!!
I love this! I do wish this existed a few years ago though *sigh*. I had to costume some characters for an "Under the Sea" VBS skit that included a deep-sea diver and a turtle. I had just discovered you (this was back in 2019), so I bought the bundle (no regrets) and made the deep-sea diver helmet. That was my first time working with foam and I ended up loving it. I decided that foam would be the best way to do the turtle costume too, so I made up my own pattern for a shell, but it's nowhere near as good as yours!
That is fun, I have 2 in my family who love turtles!! Might do them as christmas gifts... ohhhhhhhhhh, camera slipped, nice spooky ending for the season :P
Bought the pattern to make a bowser costume. Seriously, a life saver. I couldn't find the foam boards anywhere, so I used a yoga mat. Still looks awesome
Yes!! I was thinking of that when I made the pattern- in fact if you use the dotted cutout lines that should give a slightly more Bowser vibe (though I haven't actually tried it yet:)
Rather than straps, maybe a plastron (front or bottom part of the shell) to give it the whole look. :) Also some TMNT 1990 texture to the shell would be cool to see.
omg, i just discovered your channel.... you're a life saver!! i'll use this template for a bowser cosplay!!!! thank you and keep up with your wonderful work!!!!
Omg, I LOVE this! I immediately see other uses-like if your kids want to be Koopas…or for the Finding Nemo Musical that my son’s school is performing this winter… I love how versatile your patterns are! I recently used parts of your diver helmet to create a crazy bubble nitrous helmet for the dentist in a production of Little Shop of Horrors. Buy the Super Value Bundle, folks, you won’t ever regret it.
I just watched your build video and it is fantastic!! Lots of great, helpful info. Thanks so much for the link, you made my day:) I'll add a link to your build as well- it's great for some different techniques.
These are great! I made a shell about 10 years ago from Cardboard and caulk. Similar pattern pieces were cut out but this would be more durable. My daughter still has the cardboard on and got Kevin Eastman's signature on it. Would love to see how you paint and attach the straps in case I have to make another one. :D
Great tutorial! I wonder if you sprayed the whole thing with Flex-Seal afterwards, would it help make the shell sturdier? or would a product like that have a bad reaction on foam? I've only tried it on paper mache, and it works amazing!
FlexSeal won't harden the parts like say fiberglass and resin would. It's a thick rubberized coating, so the foam is still pliable. If a rubberized underlayment for paint is what you are after, I recommend Plasti-dip over Flex Seal as it's closer to a paint and has a bit of "flow out" or "self-level". My technique is to heat seal with a heat gun, Plasti-dip as a filler/primer coat, then paint. Note: putting the can of Plastidip in some warm water for 5ish minutes helps it flow nicely. I've used it on several EVA based customs/props with much success. I'm on Instructables under the username -BALES- if you want to see examples - TMNT Mikey, Marvin the Martian, Ghostbusters, pumpkin heads, etc.
There’s going to be a con in a few months and I got the idea to cosplay mystic Mikey from rise and after watching this and looking at reference images I realized just how different his shell is from the traditional turtles 😂
You definitely don't want to burn it- ie if there's smoke coming off it. That's pretty much good advice for any plastic. If you are just heating it up so it's flexible, you should still wear a respirator just in case.
I loved your shell design, but I was wondering if you had one that had a breastplate as well. And perhaps if it was one that if you get caught in a torrential downpour you could pull your arms and head in, push up on the shoulders extending it enough to lay down on the ground and draw your legs in to curl up in the fetal position until after the rain has passed. Having been homeless before and not having proper transportation these are the kinds of things I think of. If I go out in that costume I might have to walk miles to get home to get out of the rain, or to get to where I'm going. So such a modification would be quite valuable to me. If you don't have such a design could you make one please and thank you.
Hmm, that's not cool. I just tried it myself and got the same thing.Ummm. I'll have to contact Gumroad and see what the deal is, but you should be able to access the patterns either by logging in to your Gumroad acct if you have one, or using the link on your original receipt if you don't have a Gumroad acct. I can send it to you if you've lost it.
@@LostWax But why? The blades are perforated like that so you can break off the dull ones and have sharp ones ready to go. Replacing the entire blade or sharpening it is confusingly unnecessary.
@@crazylegsmurphy Well, when I cut thick foam, especially at an angle, I have the blade out quite far, so probably 3 of those sections would be dulling at the same time. That would only give me a couple snaps before the blade was used up. So, say on one of these shells I would go through 2 or 3 full blades. By sharpening the blade as I go, I can always have a long, sharp blade and one blade will last me years. I keep my sharpening stone beside me and it only takes a couple of seconds to touch up the blade when it needs it.
It makes a hell of a mess (and wear a filter mask) but a dremel tool with a barrel sander attachment can cut down on time sanding. You have to be careful, though, or you can gouge your foam.

i would love to see these builds continued. yes please make a video of attaching the straps and maybe even diff colors for each shell.

Thanks for the feedback, it's always a bit of a guess as to what people will be interested in, so good to hear from you!
These turned out great! What an easy foam project. Great one to get started learning how to work with foam.
Indeed, the only tricky bit is cutting the angles, but that's not too bad.
Chris your imagination has no bounds. Well done on your good work. My wife and I are long time fans and makers of Lost Wax items. Excelsior 🎉
Thanks so much for your long time support, I really appreciate it!
Looks great!
Thanks!!
More ninja turtles!
Alright!
Thank you for the video and es elopez said "more turtles"
Awesome! Thank you for the size reference at the end. That helped.
Glad it helped!

Yeah, me throwing the shell started a chain reaction that ended up with another tripod falling on my camera. It all ended up O.K. though!
These look great!! A follow up video with adding the straps and making the ninja turtle belly plates would be dope
On it. Hopefully.
Lydia thoroughly approves of this costume! ❤🎉🐢🦹♀️
Of course! That's fantastic:)
Yes, would like to see more content like this. Another video adding straps would be great!
Thanks for the feedback!
Looks like I know what I'll be making to add to my kids costume for this season! Turtle Power!
Oh yeah!

Cool, I'm gonna see what I can figure out this week :)
Nice! Of course we want more videos. Thanks, Chris!

My pleasure! Glad I could add some joy!
Of course you have to show us the final fitting and painting because we love your work
Working on it now:)
This is the best Webpage ever!!! You have shown me so much great costume ideas.
Glad it was helpful!
Looking forward to see that! Thanks! Straps and all! 😃
OMG that's so awesome i need that. Even though it won't be a ninja turtle but instead squirtel

Good ideas. I'll see what I can do.
Love the proton pack in the back 😂😂😂 the end was the best lol

Best looking shells i’ve seen on RUclips

Hey Chris I really like your tutorials. They’re easy to follow for cool results & fun 🤩 Thanks heaps
Glad you like them! You're welcome:)
As far as sanding goes, A rotary tool is your best friend!
Definitely. I just like to show what you can do if you just have minimal tools.
Wow they look fantastic!! 👏👏 nice work!
😁 Thanks, I quite like them too.
“Abandon the table in the middle of the basement” 😂
I put it away before the relatives came over.

Yay! Thank you. Glad it could be helpful!
Loved this I gotta try this for sure now do a bowser version with spikes 😂
Absolutely! I was going to try, but I don't think I'll have time....You can try cutting on the dotted lines for a slightly more Bowsery shell shape.
Amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!
I love IT
Thank you so much!
And I would love to see how you paint it
This is cool!!
Wow that's cool
Thank you so much!

Nice!! It's so good for kids to have costumes they can dress up in!
Awesome
I think it would be really interesting to see how you could alter the pattern so you can use it as an actual backpack
Interesting.....
these are great ideas, i am interested in the large, i'm a big guy. hey is that a ghostbuster pack in the back i see
You bet it is, all made from foam for a lightweight pack. You can watch the video here: ruclips.net/video/kbHYg0JAm3U/видео.html
Holy Bob Saget!

this is amazing!! 😮
Thanks😁
The Kame House would be proud.
We need a full tmnt suit
my master roshi cosplay is going ham
Cowabunga dude!!
These are awesome! Buying supplies to get going on this project right now. What thickness floor mat do you recommend using?
The one I used was 10mm thick, but it's pretty forgiving.
I would love to see how you put straps on the shell.
So would I!
@@LostWax yes, would you a video on how you put the straps on the shell.
@@georgehaskell3819 I'm gonna try. I am finishing up the painting tonight, then on to straps and the front piece.
Buen día me encanto el caparazón ,do de podri encontrar la plantilla para hacerl e mi hijo por su cumpleaños ,gracias hermosos videos .Argentina
Now you're ready to learn the Turtle Hermit Way!
Any suggestions on scaling the turtle shell for an even larger scale?
Could you do the front side when you add the backpack straps?
I'm gonna try!

Possibly, but not sure I'd get them done before Halloween

Isnt this kind of foam dangerous to burn because of the fumes?

I dove around looking for a bowzer shell today and found nothing. Since i bought the patterns long ago, i found one today after all

@@LostWax - I did have the original mail saved so everything is sorted :)
How thick is the foam
That foam was 1cm approximately.
Those blades are snap offs...you just threw away 7 blades. You just need to snap the tips off.
Love your videos!
We’ll, I actually don’t throw them away, I resharpen them and use again. Takes a bit of practice but saves buying blades. Good point though!
Someone has mentioned the blade right? You don't replace the entire blade on those knives... you break off one or two of the dull ends.
I would normally just sharpen those blades, I just changed it to make a point:)
