Joe everytime I see your video pop up it always makes me feel happy inside I love watching every single video I’ve been watching you for years now never gets old
Could have overheated because of no coolant in the radiator. I just rebuilt a 99 RM80 that had blew up 4 months after it was supposedly rebuilt. What I found was the 2 water pump bearings went bad and chewed up the impeller shaft seal. Most of the Coolant had leaked into the oil. The radiator only had a couple of ounces of coolant left in it which will definitely cause it to overheat.
Yea I'm think that too.... no coolant= overheating which would lead to locked up Bearings. And I don't think he had mixed gas in it. Probably put mixed gas in it to make it look good to sell. But ran it with regular gas.

Just finished a 03 with the same exact issue. There was oil in the gas but it was jetted super lean. Once I finished it, I went as rich as I could on jetting without fouling plugs and I’m running half and half 110 and 93 non ethanol. Both of those things combined have made a night and day difference in how cool the engine runs. I’ll adjust the jetting a little leaner once it has some hours under its belt.
Others already have said...piston damage of that type , looks like detonation... And I think, if I remember my lessons and research,, An "OIL Rich" mixture, will actually make the fuel mixture leaner, theory being additional oil displaces fuel, equals a leaner air fuel mix....check it out. The biggest problem with this engine was it having a hot rods crank in it! No rod bearings would have been better than a hot rods rebuild! The piston is damaged from the bearing particles damaging it. Wouldn't use a hot rods crank as a paper weight!
Awesome video im leaving with my opinion that it was something in rebuild or fuel wish the old feller wouldn't have lied about the jb welded oil plug you also forgot to add in possible new case once you figure out if its repairable or not
From what I could see, the holes not being drilled in the piston skirt where the skirt contacts the port bridge, was not what caused the engine to fail. Wondering if it was sabotaged or run without 2 stroke oil. Was the inner head orange pinched from improper installation? Couldn't tell if it was pinched or fried.
I drilled another hole in my piston at the bridge port ... when i got my extra cylinder, it had seized right at the bridge port ... 3 holes and relieve the bridge port ..no problem so far.
This all probably happened because they didn't drill the little holes in the piston. So things weren't getting lubricted. I still don't understand the oil drain bolt. If they JB welded it because it was leaking, just re-tap the threads and get a new bolt. Not JB Weld it , So it makes it a pain in the rear end to change the oil.
The piston is chewed up from a lean run condition the inside of the top of the head looks pitted from lean burn also. Fuel cools the engine more then the engine coolant itself

Always when selling I do attempt to be as honest as I can. Some folk just don't care. Its impossible to check everything and there is an element of gambling when buying used. The last bike I purchased was riddled with issues which the seller blatantly skipped over. I could have raised a fuss, I could have taken it back. In the end I worked through the problems one by one and thoroughly enjoyed the process. Its channels like this that have inspired me personally and Im pretty sure many others too. All the best and looking forward to future uploads.
I look at a used 125 the other day, guy was trying to take me to the cleaners, clutch was definitely on it's way out, very low compression. Glad I watched some of these videos so I knew what to look for. I would've bought the bike to work on if he would take like 5-800 for it.
Engine Doctor! Enjoy your videos and your diagnosis! 👌👌
The biggest problem with this engine was it having a hot rods crank in it! No rod bearings would have been better than a hot rods rebuild! The piston is damaged from the bearing particles damaging it. Wouldn't use a hot rods crank as a paper weight!
Yeah I've gotta hot rods stroker crank in my motor,462 big bore stroker, lol
Hot rods products aren't bad
Oh yeah they look really good after 2 rides 🤨
@@eraant1 that's because the guy didn't know what he was doing with a 2 stroke. Over heated and no oil mix
@@eraant1 mine has been fine for over 2 years now
Need more of Vinnies analysis. Didn’t see him sniffing out a bad bike sale like he usually does. He is top dog of bike repairs/rebuilds!
1200 is a killer deal. Hard to find good condition 2 strokes now a days.
Great bikes when when running and maintained.
Brother is getting very efficient.
I think all of the honning matteral is what made it lock up
Awesome video im leaving with my opinion that it was something in rebuild or fuel wish the old feller wouldn't have lied about the jb welded oil plug you also forgot to add in possible new case once you figure out if its repairable or not
Great video. Always educational👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Been getting back into your videos again. Such a good video
A full rebuild kit are $300-400 they are cheap so that will be a $1500-1800+ bike when done
The piston is chewed up from a lean run condition the inside of the top of the head looks pitted from lean burn also. Fuel cools the engine more then the engine coolant itself
I have a 1994 Greg albertyn rm...the powervalve system looks identical
