Here here I agree. Rick was a part of this only because a scene was filmed on his show. According to that episode, he didn't buy it anyways and if it was on his show....it was all scripted and probably even rehearsed. PAWN Stars usually have items they haven't had too many of or never had it.... or what is trending. He'll I was in that Pawn shop once and since they were not filming that moment. Nobody was there that was ever on the show. You think a guy whose made a bank account like his is going to be at the shop pitching loans and buying filler items for shelves. The Nintendo saga is simple. If it is unique it is worth as much as someone willing to pay. If their dumb enuf to pay a million for a copy of Mario..... that tells me they have a shit load of baseball cards from the 80's in their basement thinking they have some thing valuable. Even tho there is 150 thousand rookie cards of everyone in that decade.
@oldmanmaye8490 umm, no. The "Nintendo saga" of graded games is indeed a scam. Rick was not scammed and is not involved but it isn't as simple as supply and demand and people with too much money. It's an active scheme. It's a planned artifical bubble. Exactly like in coins decades ago. If you look up who is involved in both bubbles you'll see some repetition.

*I've seen the episode, but it's been a long time. Rick didn't fall for it, because Rick puts a limit on what he spends. If your offer is above $250,000 and you will not come down, your chances of selling to him are almost zero! No expert is flawless(probably not nearly flawless), so--to spend an amount--you'd need to be willing to do without it in case that expert is wrong(or make the amount back up through some other sale or combination of sales).
It's not usually the type of transaction where the criminal gets caught(if relevant), because they don't mind lying and can always say they were duped, too(as in they got it from some ded relative that you were supposed to assume it from some scam artist or some shop/rummage sale/bought it off a stranger--to absolve them of responsibility that might come later). Sometimes, one of those arguments are actually not lies, but true. Therefore, you can expect to take a complete hit if you bought what they had and your expert was wrong... That's the antique business; it's a gamble--if done right--that will pay off way, way more than gambling at the casino! That's Rick's philosophy. He tries to minimize the losses and hopes to almost always make a future profit on what he buys.
Now, Corey may be even more limited in what Rick allows him to spend, but--whatever the case--he's tighter than Rick. If I came into the store, I would not want to see Corey(not at all)! Chumlee is kind of in the middle, but Corey's like a jealous dog with funds when he does not have to be(as if he is trying to prove that he can turn a major profit--that he's super valuable to the company--where he lowballs you big time and turns around only to sell it for what it's worth). Corey'll let you walk out in order to achieve this, so it's not a bluff...
BUT, IF RICK DID THIS FIGURING HE'D GET MORE VIEWS(due to SMB being one of the most popular games of all time), HE SHOULD NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. IT ALLOWS PEOPLE TO BE SCAMMED BY PEOPLE LIKE THIS AND IT CAN ALSO CAUSE THE MARKET TO CRASH!

Karl Jobst covered this scam about 2 years ago. The retro gaming market was being manipulated by a bunch of goons collaborating with a "rating" company to pump prices.
