I'm not sure exactly but I think it's my cam making it look blacker. In direct sun it has a slightly smokey gray-ish color. 90% of regular people will say it's black, but I say it's a very dark smokey gray. Gloss black rustoleum is not 100% black though. There are tricks I've learned to get the most black possible, but in general it's a very, very dark gray. If you don't know what your doing, it will come out light gray and look bad.
You prolly did not mix it enough. You seriously need to set a timer and stir the paint for about a full five minuets while it's in the can. Then stir the 60/40 mix for another full five minuets before rolling it on. I've done the same thing before and got all bubbles from not mixing right. Also you need a hair drier. Roller in one hand hair drier in the other. Use the hair drier to pop all the bubbles and if they still don't pop, then you need to stir the mix more. Hope that helps!
I put on one coat, then the next day I put on 2 more coats then wet sanded with 800. Then put on 2 more and sanded with 2000 grit in an up and down pattern with a block and soapy water. I thinned the paint out with 100% mineral spirits. You have to be sure it actually says 100% mineral spirits on the can. I did not thin it as much as other people do because I did not want it to run. So I got full coverage in 2 coats instead of 4 like most people get.
That's probably the best gloss for rustoleum paint job I have seen yet! Great job dude, I am going to do this to my 2000sunflower next year. Wish me luck lol. 5*s
Damn, this is inspiring me to bring my civic back to life. I had it back in 2002 in high school haha. That thing still runs well...and all it needs is a fresh look. How much did you end up spending it this project? And how on earth did you get it so black and shiny?
@RiotousOne After the final 2000 grit sanding I hit it with Turtle wax liquid rubbing compound and the buffer with a lambswool bonnet. Then I used Turtle wax polishing compound the same way, followed by scratch and swirl remover then wax.
that looks good man. i got an xb i did with gloss grey on the 6th coat. but my body work sux so i keep goin back tryin to fix stuff. cant wait to see what it looks like when i polish it. what kinda polish u use?
holy fu*k. r u kidding me?? at the begining of the vid i thought u were pointing cam out of ur garage and i thought u were gonna drive by or sumthin lol but then i realized it was a reFLECTION OFF UR CAR. best i have ever seen. 5*
No it's thicker than 1:1 but I'm not sure exactly the ratio. Since this has way more views than I thought it would ever get I'm thinking of making a vid of exactly the steps I took to get this. Maybe paint a body panel or something.
@aaminjoshi91 Yeah it is. If it's out of a spray can it takes about a week to dry enough to be resistant to rocks and dirt. But really, any paint will not last on rims. Even expensive stuff, rims need to be powder coated if you want it to last. Otherwise you will have to repaint them in about a year if your lucky.
saw those taillights and i suddenly knew what this was lol . i gotta say man really good job u thinking of doing a update video on how its lasted. I have played on and off with rattle for years for various projects and it seems to hold up pretty well. My process with rattle is almost the same as your roller process which is odd i can never achieve that perfect shine without wetsanding basecoat and reapplying. Then using the clear then wetsanding and buffing.
ok can u tell me step by step of how u did the hole paint job cause i wont to paint my 1978 ford f-150 that same color and i want to get my truck to look that smooth
Nice job Ima b making my own vid soon. Thanks to you I'm making a extra $ 1,600 a month . I like the turtle wax polish over McGuires and 3m over turtle wax.
@jtech87 yeah it is out of a spray can and yeah i here ya man. I wanna get them powder coated but money is short right now so maybe in the spring i'll get it done. Thanks for replying back though! I just brought my car outside to sit in the sun for a while. i figure its dry enough now now to worry about dust but it could use some uv rays to speed up the cure time!
body work is not that hard, dings are easy, but when u got like rusted up wheel wells like i do, then that's a problem :( nice job anyhow. i'm going with gloss black too soon
hey man i just painted my rims black last night with rustoleum protective enamel gloss paint. my question is this similar to what you used? I want to know how long it will take for the paint to fully harden also if its chip and fade resistant? I live in a state where we get 5-6 months of winter! Thanks bro!
@thebassmasta100 Im making a video right now showing exactly how I painted this car. I should have it posted in a week or two. It will explain everything. As far as scratches, it's just like regular auto paint.
heres a question for ya jtech87..... could you mix say red metal flake in with the paint or can you get rusto clear in a tin (non rattle) and mix MF in that ?
that rx7 looks pretty clean and polished nice work there man
@zxvcw No, it will clog the gun instantly and without thinner the paint will not harden properly.

looks really good man!
what was the ratio of mineral spirits to paint that you used?
1:1?
that looks really good, how many quarts did you need for the 5 coats?
No it's thicker than 1:1 but I'm not sure exactly the ratio. Since this has way more views than I thought it would ever get I'm thinking of making a vid of exactly the steps I took to get this. Maybe paint a body panel or something.
Plain old Rusto is what I used. I don't know if the automotive stuff is better or not.
Ristoleom best spray paint ever, painted my motorcycle with it and it turned out great

I think I used like 2ish. Not sure exactly
HELL YEAH LOOKIN SHARP REAL SHARP :)

@billyBinNC Exactly, I just posted an update vid in HD. Check my vids
body work is not that hard, dings are easy, but when u got like rusted up wheel wells like i do, then that's a problem :( nice job anyhow. i'm going with gloss black too soon
@MolaRam015 Thin as possible. If it even resembles milk it's too thick. Or you are pressing down too hard. Also up the spirits to 50/50.
what song is this? i like the beat!
btw paint looks good my brotha

REAL SHYT WHAT BEAT IS THIS PLAYIN IN THE VIDEO ?
@jtech87 I used rustoleum gloss white in my srap gun and it worked fine, i did add a little thinner though.
Do you need to use automotive specific rustoleum, or can you use just normal metal kind?
@thebassmasta100 Im making a video right now showing exactly how I painted this car. I should have it posted in a week or two. It will explain everything.
As far as scratches, it's just like regular auto paint.
No need to clear coat it?
So i could probably use this instead of chrome to my daft punk helmet?
How long did you leave the clear on before you sanded
did u sand it after each coat or did u sand it after all 5 coats??? what grit??
heres a question for ya jtech87..... could you mix say red metal flake in with the paint or can you get rusto clear in a tin (non rattle) and mix MF in that ?
when you sanded it what all did you use and buff wise?........
WOW
What kind of car is that?
Nope, looks the same
