      "He is one of the most successful Indian Test captains to date, winning 21 out of 49 test matches. Sourav Ganguly is the most successful Indian test captain overseas with 11 wins."
      This has been quoted from wikipedia.
      Wikipedia calls him,
      "India's most successful Test captain overseas, winning 11 out of 28 matches that he led."
      Also, India went to the world cup finals under ganguly's captaincy in 2003.(that too in South Africa). Besides, India also won the CT under him.
      Dravid ke captaincy me to hum log 2007 me pehle round me he out ho gaye(woh bhi Bangladesh ke saath harke, Ganguly ne us match me bhi 81 kiya tha).
      Records suggest that Ganguly was way way ahead of Dravid in ODIs. Dravid was good only in tests. In addition to this, Ganguly ek lauta aisa player hai jo BCCI president bana hay. Is se ham samajh hi sakte hay uska leadership skills baki playero se(especially Dravid se) kitna byahtar hai.
      Also in terms of wealth Ganguly is 4th in India after Sachin, Dhoni and Kohli. Dravid has barely got a place in the top 10. (Source : Google).

    Sanjay Manjrekar is a very articulate commentator. He comes across as a very reflective person. His personal life, successes as well as failures makes an interesting story along with his father's life. A littl known fact about Sanjay is that after Russell Arnold, he is probably the most knowledgeable on Sri Lankan Cricket due to his long tenure at Ten Sports/Ten Cricket.

    Sanjay has always come across as a bit of a pessimist - even though he may have been a fighter. I think he over-analyses and is overly rational. In interviews etc., he has stated that Pakistan was a better team than India in the early 90s, in another place that Sir Richard Hadlee knew 2 years before his retirement that his time was up, and here he talks about Ganguly and Dravid being better than himself in 1996, etc. But sport - and life in general - is not always about being rational, but sometimes about self-belief bordering on the irrational. Otherwise Kolkata 2001 would never have happened. Laxman, Sehwag etc. with weak footwork and pronounced weaknesses against in-dipping deliveries would never have succeeded overseas or against genuine pace, Sachin would have been finished after the 2007 World Cup, etc.. Manjrekar was one of the best technical batsmen India had, but threw away his career perhaps due to this pessimism. I remember how pathetic and scared he looked facing up to Donald in his last Test - the same man who had made centuries against Marshall, Bishop, Ambrose and Patterson, and a double against Imran, Wasim, Waqar and Abdul Qadir on greentops.

    • @royp7541
      @royp7541 4 года назад +1

      He was compact and had great temperament but his technique suited front foot play only and had zero back foot game but tried using mental strength to cope with bounce and pace wicket. In that area he had zero competence as he relied on his mindset only rather then able to deal with short stuff with strong back foot play. He just lacked technique to deal with short bowling.

Agarkar played many matches in 1999 and early 2000 when Sachin was captain but failed miserably. Talking about kuruvilla , he played in 1997 only . Vijay Manjarekar died before his son's FC debut. His FC career is one of the finest. Even his first few international outings were success. There after he ended up as one of the many lost boys in Indian Cricket like Lakshman Sivaramakrishnan to Vinod Kambli to Irfan Pathan. And he is one of the finest technically correct batsman ever.

    Such a good test batsman but why he played every format as tests, I recall in my childhood India lost many close odi matches due to his slow innings.

    I am seeing so many negative comments here. IMO, he couldn't live up to the early promise. Scoring a century against Marshall, Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, Akram, Younis in their prime is no mean achievement. I can put my neck out and say that none of the current Indian players stand any chance against any of these bowlers. It includes Kohli too. Much of the antagonism towards him is probably due to his political leanings.

    I am not a Sanjay Manjarekar fan...he at times needlessly controversial and a very lacklustre commentator. ...however, as a batsman during his peak he was a technically solid fantastic test batsman and played really well against the feared Pak bowling attack of Imran, Akram and Waker. However, his loss of form was quite rapid and career ended abruptly. Well let's not forget the emargence of Ganguly and Dravid could end anybody's career.

    Jonty Rhodes shut him up during an IPL game and he is extra courteous to Pollard now for obvious reasons - still he doesn't mend his ways - consider his comment on pujara - that he is not so much a fan of Pujara ....Now after Pujara's Australian tour, he is mute for a change. He is 10 on 10 on variety entertainment, like Harsha is 10 on 10 on highly metaphorical language - no wonder both gel well in the comm box

    I respect the hardwork you put to go on to play for india. I'll always admire you as an indian player. Put from what i understand about you from commentary, social media comments and public interviews you come across as someone who takes a lot and lot of personal pride over everything. It's a sort of superiority which automatically makes you disrespect and talk low of other people. And it's very evident in controversies you have created over jadeja ... Harsh Bhogle and others. I'm sorry to say you are losing your respect among indians.

    He listens to some of the other incisive players-turned-commentators like mike artherton and michael clarke and parrots their observations labeling them as his own - once in a while he does have an original point to make but his gestures and expressions defeat the purpose - one song dedicated to SM - jo bhi mein kehnaa chahu, barbaad kare alfaaz mere
