It was the Australian tour that broke Manjrekar. Pakistan and West Indies at that time had better bowlers than Australia, but the Australians had the quality of never bowling a bad ball. Manjrekar made the mistake of waiting for the bad ball. Against Pakistan it was successful, since Imran , Wasim and Waqar bowled 4 great balls in an over but they also bowled two bad balls in an over which was exactly Manjrekar was waiting for. But against Australians he had no such luck. The Australians bowling may not have been great like the Pakistanis but they made sure that they bowled 6 good balls in an over. So Manjrekar was always waiting and waiting for the bad ball against Australia which never came.

The anecdote after 04:00 is a life lesson for any young cricketer. Always put team's interests ahead of self- centred goals like protecting your average. In the long run, numbers do not get discussed in player selections nearly as much as your reputation and the ability to help the team win matches does.

He never fulfilled his talent. He always given more emphasis to his technique than scoring the runs.I have not seen any other Indian cricketer who got out in the form of runouts like him.Never saw his contribution in any winning matches.Time god that,India found a great player in the form of Rahul Dravid and he conquered the world with his batting.

Sanjay manjrekar was superb in two series - 1989 westindies and pakistan series. He just seemed like never getting out at all!!. Somewhere down the line he lost concentration, thought too much about his cricket which negatively affected his natural ability ......a great promise left unfulfilled.

He played well against Pak and West Indies in sharja 1991. Scored 270 odd runs in 5 matches against Wasim, Waquar, Aquib, Imran, Ambrose , Bishop,Marshal, Patterson etc. His century saved India from defeat against Zimbabwe in their 1st test at Harrare 1992. Also scored 105 of 84 balls against SouthAfrica at Eden garden.

He was a stylish bat and created a lot of expectations when he scored a test double hundred but made way for the likes of Ganguly Dravid and Sehwag who were more consistent
As a commentator he was good but of late has made serious errors of judgement and has been riduculed by players and cricket fans. The game has evolved much faster than his comprehension and he must evolve in order to continue as a commentator and cut out his snobbish demeanor
