Fun Fact: The studio responsible for creating the cut-scenes, Production I.G., also worked on both the animated cut-scenes for Persona 5, as well as the anime based on the game.
Hands down my favorite Wii game, one of the best 2D platformers, amazing soundtrack, slick art style, motion controls that fit well without feeling overdone...I really want a Wario Land revival on Switch. Give it to Retro, they nailed DKC
Rodney Whitfield What would they even remake though? It’s such a polished well animated 2d game I can’t imagine anything you could do to it that wouldn’t fall into the remaster category
I was one of the people that got this on release, after most people, including the official Nintendo magazine said it was "ok but not as good as any Mario game" and I felt they did it a massive dis-service, this was one of my all time fav Wii games, and deserves more praise
I still think Wario Land 4 is the best. In that one, all hell breaks loose when you hit the gem at the end of the level. Levels will become unstable, start to go on fire or will just break down on you. I also liked the Ren and Stimpy like graphics in that one! Try that one too, Jirard!
This game had so much going for it. I recently started replaying, and man is it incredible. The combination of the solid mechanics and unique thought provoking puzzles with excellent hand drawn visuals and great music made so much of it a blast.
One of the most overlooked platformers of all time! It perfectly encapsulated what we could expect from future Good Feel games: a fun adventure that shows its muscle when you go for 100%. A shame it was limited to one aspect ratio, but still, gorgeously drawn and animated.
AHHHHHH I’m so happy. No one talks about this game and it’s incredibly good, it might be influenced by nostalgia but i doubt it. Now people will finally hear about the game
Alejandro Benavides I agree, it’s a great platformer with some unique gameplay. And yes, I’m biased. I got it as a birthday present when I was 8 or so.
I'm a huge Wario Land fan since I was 3, and there's absolutely no bias here: These games are masterpieces of game design. Every single one of them does something unique and is completely enjoyable
This game was probably my favorite game as a kid. Just...everything about it is amazing to me. The artstyle, the soundtrack, the animations, the gameplay...it's all so good. The only thing I can really say I don't like are the Submarine levels but those can be pretty fun at times. I hope Nintendo can bring back this series with this beautiful artstyle and level of animation. Fun fact: If I remember correctly, Production I.G. made so many frames of animations for just about EVERYTHING in this game. Items included. Hell, Wario alone had 700-900 different sprites for each frame of animation. Possibly even more.
far easier to shoot the beard mode section first and then shave to film the other part. imagine; "ok, cut! let's put a pin in this intro shoot for 6 weeks while i grow a flippin' beard'
I remember buying this game on launch day out of sheer impulse. I always liked the older games in the series, but never owned them. I knew this was coming, saw the amazing reviews, and figured "why not?" Such a good call. This soundtrack still gets regular play.
Dude this is one of my childhood favorites! It’s so underrated, and I seriously can’t get over how good the ost is. So glad you chose to complete this game Jirard!
Oh boy it's one of my favorite Super Beard Bros *As the video starts* Stg if Brett's not in this video by any means I'm disliking. *Brett appears as a co-host* This is the best episode of the Completionist ever created.
*Meme Lord* Reminds me of my friend‘s sister who makes super long hazard spam levels where you have to collect all 6 Red Coins to progress and places no checkpoints. And then he asks me to play those and heart them. I responded with this: CHG-5CR-F4G Her next level was actually easier than before... You just gotta bullshit them and they improve (but still no checkpoints and softlocks if you loose your power up)
SO GLAD you "completionisted" this game! Great to start with the Mario Land 2 space music! The graphics are so reminiscent of a Saturday morning cartoon and the gameplay/mechanics to match! Awesome to relive this hidden gem with great replayability, though the frantic chase to the start is nervewrecking, there's so much charm and gimmicks to make it fun! The bosses are outstanding and the game is a definite bang for your buck, Shake It is affordable and a fantastic time for the 2D platforming super fan. Thanks as always for this cool trip down the road of the Wario's much deserved nostalgic lineage and experience! Hope you'll do Wario for the Virtual Boy someday, EASILY the best game for the awkward console. Cheers💯👍👍🍻
I really enjoyed this game. Have been a fan of wario land games since my first on the game boy. That said, I was sad and satisfied that I couldn't complete this game. I'm glad you did, Jirard. Hope to see you next weekend
Loved the format! Having both of you go back and forth made this even more entertaining. Also loved hearing you show some honest irritation toward the motion controls lol.
This is what I love to see. I genuinely was one of the people who bought this game new and praised it from the get go, but like you said, so few people had even heard of it, and even fewer were talking about it. So when you played it on Beard Bros, I was psyched, and got even more pumped up with just how much you both enjoyed this game. Major thanks to both of you for highlighting such an amazing title.
Zuerox Same! I got it as a birthday present and I played every level multiple times, but I never beat the final boss. My favorite was the train level. I must’ve played that level dozens of times.
Wario land shake it was one of my favorite games as a kid that I wound up randomly finding at a blockbuster and loved it immediately. And one of the things I want to do so badly is make a speedster boss in super mario maker 2
Now this is one of the happiest days of my life: finally seeing a beloved game I've played FINALLY get the recognition it deserves. I will forever remember this game from when I first got it. It was 2008, I was with my family taking a trip to California and it was really boring in the motel we were staying at. One day as my mom went out to go get groceries she took me along to a mega mart to keep me entertained. I naturally strolled over to the electronics section to look at all the new games and stuff and they were having a sale on a brand new Wii System. Mom bought it for me and the two fateful games I bought to start playing with my Wii was Mario Kart Wii and Wario Land: Shake It! For the next year of playing the game, being inspired and absolutely in aw of the music, the very pretty graphics and charm it presented, and the alluring and rewarding treasures and missions it provided, I felt more than ecstatic when I saw The Beard Bros playing a game that barely has any videos - let alone good quality videos on 100%ing the game. Thank you very much for what you've done to unveil a true hidden gem of a game that everyone needs to experience. ;u;
this game is an absolute classic, it was also the first platformer i had played on the wii and i have too many good memories of trying to beat all of the missions
I remember my reward for being a good boy in preschool and kindergarten was being able to play this game after school. I've never gotten to the end, nor have I returned to it since 1st grade (I'm in 11th grade now). I probably should, but this and Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros Wii and Mario Kart Wii were literally my childhood
I loved watching this LP on beard bros, and I’m so happy with Jirard and Brett’s presentation on it here. They did a great job on hitting all the important points of this game. Nice work guys!
This is pure nostalgia for me. A fantastic game i'll be more than sure to try out again almost 10 years later. Glad i'm not the only one who remembers this legendary series.
Ayan I really wish he completed that game already! He started it years ago and it’s irritating that he hasn’t finished it yet. Hopefully he can get it done for episode 400!
I loved as a little kid the animation was bright and colorful and made you want to engage and what was going on and the game play itself was fun simplistic as well as satisfying "yeah wario mug that pirate shake his pockets empty"
I never owned a console in my life but for a short period of time about 10 years ago, I borrowed a friend's Wii for a couple of weeks and played this very game on it. This might be the only game I ever finished on a console. So, thanks for reviewing, really takes me back :)
not only a great episode of the completionist but one of the greatest super beard bros series in recent memory up there with LA Noire and Kaizo if you ask me
Great video, I'm not all that familiar with the Wario games. But this was a great introduction to them. Now it's time to recommend games for Jirard to Complete. 1. Bionic Commando (2009) 2. How did I miss this episode? I was one of those 12 people that played this game back in the day and was wondering why nobody talks about it until I stumbled upon this Completionist episode that somehow slipped past my radar.
Well, I know what I must now do. Rewatch the Wario series and remember about the 7 continents we have. Wait, Chris said there is only 6... Great duo commentary in this video from J & B.
Great review as always. I played this for the first time in 2014, and I can't believe I had never given it a shot before then. It was just so much fun to play through.
YES YES YES This is one of my favorite games on the Wii, I loved it so much I went right ahead and completed it myself. Some of those missions were actually pretty damn tough. One thing that _really_ impressed me, especially when going through the missions, was the level design. Particularly how the entire level gets turned completely on its head during the "rush back to the start" sequences. Just the way how every detail of the level that you might not even have noticed on the regular exploration section ties together and creates some of the most satisfying speedrun-esque flows I've ever expereinced. I restarted those sections countless times just to get that perfect rush where you don't bumb into anything and keep top speed until the end, which lets you find even better shortcuts and hiden paths. And damn was it satisfying. I am a completionist myself, and this game was one of the best experiences to do just that.
I watched you guys play this on Facebook. The art style, animations and THE MUSIC all blew me away. I truly regret not having gotten this game back in the day. I remember seeing it a few times, but I always thought it was just another stupid mini-game compilation because of Warioware and because of "Shake It" being in the title. I don't think this games sales would have been as bad if it had gotten better marketing and had a slightly different name. The name "Shake It" clearly fits in well within the story and world of the game, but it's also clearly pointing out the use of motion controls, which whilst not necessarily bad, in conjunction with the Warioware games, I think it probably made a lot of us core gamers jump to conclusions about what this title actually was. I now genuinely feel bad about not having looked at it beyond the cover! Thanks for the awesome playthrough Jirard, Brett & Chris!
I'm so glad you've done this game! This is one of my favorite games on the Wii ever & it doesn't get enough love. A hidden gem in the Wii's collection for sure & everyone needs to play it at one point or another.
Fun Fact: The studio responsible for creating the cut-scenes, Production I.G., also worked on both the animated cut-scenes for Persona 5, as well as the anime based on the game.
No wonder it looks so good!
Also Ghost in the Shell.
really that's amazing now im sad i don't have a wii anymore. Please nintendo a switch port please I will even deal with the motion controls.
Don't forget Ghost in the Shell too. Both the films and the series.

I bought this game for $5 at a garage sale. Wario would be proud.

Better that it's underrated than overrated!

I now genuinely feel bad about not having looked at it beyond the cover!
Thanks for the awesome playthrough Jirard, Brett & Chris!
I'm so glad you've done this game!
This is one of my favorite games on the Wii ever & it doesn't get enough love. A hidden gem in the Wii's collection for sure & everyone needs to play it at one point or another.
literally one of my favorite games of all time, I am so glad that people are finally giving it the recognition it deserves
Basically Wario Land: The Anime. It looks seriously something fresh from any animated japanese studio!
I will never forget that jazzy OST. First exposure to Wario was with Shake it, and damn it was an experience.
Include Brett like this in more vids! I like the way he slightly changes things up without being crazy overly jokey
