    I honestly have been wanting a Warioware cartoon for the longest time, and think it would be an absolute blast to watch. The perspective of everyone in diamond city, there interactions with one another, all of it would be perfect. The volt families game related shenanigans, the Crygors making weird and unconventional machines, Ashley being an adorable and yet creepy kid who just wants to make friends, and of course Wario being the greedy glue to put them all together.

  • @boksman
    @boksman Год назад +299

    Wario is easily the most deep and complex character in the Mario series, and that's *crazy* to me. He's not really even the "evil mario", he's more of an anti-mario. Aside from his first appearance, Wario is generally just a... guy. He's self-centered in some ways, friendly in others. He's got clear, personal motivation that he'll go to whatever length to achieve. He's got a whole separate friend group, a business, hobbies. He's nuanced enough to where you could put him in two similar situations and get a different, but consistent, result. He isn't one-note, he's a symphony!
    I guess there's something to be said about character flaws making interesting characters. Mario's kinda sanitized, not in the soulless way, but in the "he's the hero, obviously" way. Mario could not exist in real life, but Wario absolutely could. I hope, one day, Waluigi can get the same treatment. He's almost there, he just needs something to call his own to cement it. Not to mention the dynamic Wario the man and Waluigi the man could have together! Maybe someday...
    Also, just as a side tangent, Wario is kinda like what Luigi could've been if Luigi hadn't taken his role in the shadow in stride. I wonder what evil fucked up luigi would be like? I can't see it being Waluigi.

      My personal image of Waluigi is one that kind of allows for a Waluigi that goes along with how he's never had a game or been more than a sports-dude / party-goer.
      As Wario is someone who adventures for his own enrichment, whereas Mario is someone who goes on adventures for the sake of helping others, so is Waluigi someone who avoids danger for his own sense of cmfort like Luigi is someone who avoids danger, but still cares enough about others that he gets involved anyway.
      Waluigi only cares about his own gratification. He will participate in bloodless competition and parties, because then he gets to show-off and lord over others. But help Wario build his games? That's effort that benefits Wario, not Waluigi. Go on bold adventures to gain riches? Yeeeah that's SERIOUSLY gonna cut into his "Waluigi time" so.... no....
      He is someone who rejects the call to adventure, and I kind of want to see him in a game where he does EXACTLY that. Like, a Wario game where he maybe pulls his WarioWare crew along, and ever so often Waluigi makes a cameo in the background and absolutely REFUSES to help out. Wario will come shoulder-charging into a bar Waluigi is in because it's being run by the bandit gang who'se stolen something Wario wants, and Waluigi will just be seen in the background casually avoiding all the enemies Wario's throwing around, slowly taking in his drink through a colorful straw, and steadfastly REFUSE to do anything to either help or hinder Wario. When the boss battle happens he just pushes the bartender into the path of either the boss or Wario's attack, and leaves without paying his bill. THAT, I feel, is the essence of Waluigi... though I guess I could be wrong.

He only gets unpleasant when money’s involved. Hell, this guy never locks his front door so that his friends can come and go whenever they want. There’s even a micro game that somewhat shows this, featuring Wario trying to prevent a bear/door-to-door salesman from getting into his house.

Have him be a surly construction worker from Brooklyn who, during the cleanup from the finale to the last movie, uncovers a new portal to the Mushroom Kingdom and conspires to turn it into a resort and theme park where he'll rake in the dough. Honestly, very similar idea I also have. Like imagine after the events of the first movie Spike hires some new people, that'd be Wario and possibly Waluigi too, and they learn of the Mushroom Kingdom and in their greed find a way to sneak into the kingdom and take control over large parts of it to get all the riches there, maybe while Mario and Peach are visiting Brooklyn or something like that. Heck maybe Wario could even take iver a good chunk of Bowsers army, causing even more confusion that keeps Wario away from the main target. Maybe Bowser while still captured misheard Wario as Mario while his minions were under Warios control and think Mario somehow took over his army and wanting revenge for it. Like this could lead to a 2nd act fight between Mario and Bowser only to realise Wario was behind the whole thing and having ko choice but to team up temporarily to get Wario out!
      Like it just seems like such an obvious way to continue after the first movie.

    Everyone knows Wario is cool as fuck. But who knows what he's thinking? Who knows why he smashes bandits? And why do we think of him as fondly as we think about the mythical (nonexistent?) Dr Pepper. Perchance. I believe it was Kant who said "Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play." Wario exhibits experience by smashing bands all day, but he exhibits theory by stating "I’m-a gonna win!” keep it up, baby! When Wario leaves his place of safety to smash a bandy, he knows he may die. And yet, for a man who can purchase lives with money, a life becomes a mere store of value. A tax that can be paid for much as a rich man feels any law with a fine is a price. We think of Wario as a hero, but he is simply a one percenter of a more privileged variety. The lifekind. Perchance.

He reigns supreme over his domain; free from the shackles of conventional morality and the all consuming void of nihilism, he is able to forge a new path, to give meaning to life in a way he sees fit. However despite the +200 times they played the game... Wario only got to play as the sheriff once. At that point Wario probably internalized the idea of being a big rival to Mario, dumping his own identity to just be better than him. I'm guessing some time in Wario Land series, which to him would be sort of self reflecting, Wario goes back to being himself instead of trying to be someone else's rival of sprite.

      As opposed to the bros that care for each other a lot, and Luigi has a presence in most Mario adventures that aren't remakes or rereleases of old titles nowadays, usually as a playable character or a role somewhere in the game, very opposite to Waluigi that's barely a reference at best in Wario's games

  • @Mutant_ssbm

    Waluigi is the ultimate example of the individual shaped by the signifier. Waluigi is a man seen only in mirror images; lost in a hall of mirrors he is a reflection of a reflection of a reflection. You start with Mario - the wholesome all Italian plumbing superman, you reflect him to create Luigi - the same thing but slightly less. You invert Mario to create Wario - Mario turned septic and libertarian - then you reflect the inversion in the reflection: you create a being who can only exist in reference to others. Waluigi is the true nowhere man, without the other characters he reflects, inverts and parodies he has no reason to exist. Waluigi’s identity only comes from what and who he isn’t - without a wider frame of reference he is nothing. He is not his own man. In a world where our identities are shaped by our warped relationships to brands and commerce we are all Waluigi.

Master of Disguise was kind of just a thing of Nintendo throwing IPs at the wall with the DS since that was so successful, and ShakeIt on Wii was made to be a sort of revival of the series after 7 years without a proper Wario Land title since 4. something i wanna bring up is that, if i recall correctly, miyamoto said he imagines the mario cast as “a troupe of actors,” which is why they all play go kart and golf with each other. makes you wonder if warioware is his true life, while the rest is just him putting on a performance

    18:45 WARIO WORLD
    i had that game! I have vivid memories of playing it, especially falling into the hole with the ghost dogs and the beginning cutscene with the spinning purple gem. I never finished it sadly, but it shall always remain in my mind. I also vividly remember the anatomy chart of Wario in the little booklet and him commenting on his organs, sounds weird but i think its charming as heck!
    (I still have the copy btw 😈
    But my older sibling took the game cube when they moved out so I'll revisit it at their house someday)

    I think the part that hurts about Smash Wario the most is that, if Wario actually managed to be included in Melee, he would’ve been focused on Land first, and the series would actually maintain more than just a modicum of its identity within the franchise instead of being the flanderized fart mess it’s perceived to be now

    • @DeltaOdyssey
      @DeltaOdyssey Год назад +17

      Actually, funny thing about wario's connection to toilet humor- that's something that sort of got lost in translation. during a lot of the early marketing in Japan, there was a lot of toilet related humor for wario, regarding stuff like poop. If you're interested in learning more, I would greatly recommend the sourcegaming article "why does wario fart?" that explains a lot of his modern smash representation. That being said, it would be nice to have more wario land representation for him, especially in the case of something like, say, making his shoulder bash a more prominent part of his moveset.

    • @DaNintendude
      @DaNintendude Год назад +10

      Wario _did_ always have gross-out humor in Japan, but Smash doesn't really seem to represent the rest of his character. He's just this gross crazy weirdo without much of the other stuff that makes him Wario.

    • @mittycommitspizzatime92
      @mittycommitspizzatime92 Год назад +6

      Flanderization is a problem almost every Mario character (and most of the smash roster) had until Wii U in terms of character; Mario is always pissed off for no reason, Luigi is “the weirdo”, Donkey Kong is just a screeching ape, Bowser is a ripoff Godzilla with no personality, etc.

    • @ExaltedUriel
      @ExaltedUriel Год назад +5

      @@mittycommitspizzatime92This is why I'm of the opinion that if/when we ever get another Smash game, it should be a full reboot. Since Ultimate's huge roster is a logistical nightmare and they could never replicate it, do something different. Make characters play differently, have a new aesthetic, maybe even change fundamental elements of the gameplay. And if people don't like it they can just keep playing Ultimate or Melee, same as any other fighting game series.

    I was introduced to Wario in Mario 64 DS, and he was awesome there bc he was along for the adventure, but begrudgingly so. He looked like a Mario parody, and whenever he took damage he’d growl at the player! No other character was as funny and absurd, and even though he didn’t have any special abilities, his personality as a judgy, no-nonsense goofball shined through.

Now yes, that was three years ago and still hasn't happened, so it's likely scrapped, but considering how good this video was, I wouldn't be opposed to him revisiting the idea

    Everyone knows Wario is cool as frick. But who knows what he's thinking? Who knows why he crushes turtles? And why do we think about him as fondly as we think of the mystical (nonexistent?) Dr Pepper? Perchance.
    I believe it was Kant who said "Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play." Wario exhibits experience by crushing turts all day, but he exhibits theory by stating "Lets-a go!" Keep it up, baby!
    When Wario leaves his place of safety to stomp a turty, he knows that he may Die. And yet, for a man who can purchase lives with money, a life becomes a mere store of value. A tax that can be paid for, much as a rich man feels any law with a fine is a price. We think of Wario as a hero,but he is simply a one percenter of a more privileged variety. The lifekind. Perchance.
