I can't choose between Super Mario RPG legend of the Seven Stars Super Mario Bros Superstar Saga Mario & Luigi partners in Time Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story Mario and Luigi Dream Team they're all amazing and great games in my mind and I can't choose between them which is the best Super Mario RPG game
Imo they probably made a remake of m&l bis to get make more money as a last ditch effort to get out of debt but eventually went bankrupt but hopefully Nintendo make more M&L games and a remake of M&L PIT
Well the first problem is the story & through it's progression. I know the story isn't the most important thing in a video game. But the way the story was told is confusing & makes no sense. I can give it credit for trying to be more creepy & sci-fi like of an story, but the way they executed is kinda poorly & doesn't give us any good explanation. For example. Why is Princess & Elder Princess Shroob the only group of Shroobs that can also speak English & not the othwr Shroobs? How did Peach manage to use the Star Shard to lock the Elder Princess Shroob inside of it without an guide or explanation of how that works? Why didn't the people warn the heroes about the awareness of the Star Shard that's keeping the evil being inside of the shard? Why is Elder Princess Shroob a thing? The game never explain anything. Second problem is the way to control both Adult & Baby Mario Bros. is hard to keep up & too much to handle. I don't mind having more than just 2 Mario Bros. to join the party & having them as there piggyback. I just wish there were better ways to handle it. Bowser's Inside Story fixes that sort of issue. Third problem is the game is straight forward, has no extra areas in the world or sidequest & useless minigames for no any good rewards that u work hard on. U know how every RPG games does that sort of things that u can do on your spare time to get the amount of goodies and stuff? Partners in Time doesn't have many of that. Sometimes you can go back to the world u already travel to. But there's no extra areas on that world to explore more for an item as yor reward. And the Mushroom Kingdom as your hub world is completely empty & useless. Yeah. They have item shop. But most of them are either expensive, isn't that much useful or just being there is completely unsatisfying. The only thing that you can do is visit Fawful Shop to do things. But even that is pointless. And the minigames are lacking. I get what they were doing, but most minigames are worthless and the rewards once again felt underwhelming. Superstar Saga had all the that. So why couldn't do the same to Partners in Time? Fourth problem is how the Item Bros Attack are utilize. Now I do like the idea of the Item Bros Attack as your Super Attack. I thought it was an unique & cool gimmick to use of making it more fun & interesting. But the way they executed is just stupid. Having them being limited instead of being unlimited, trying to press buttons with all 4 characters in there own single button to get an higher damage, grinding through enemies just hoping to get that Item Bros. & buying at the Item Shop in the Mushroom Kingdom with some items maybe available or not is just an huge waste. I know that every Mario & Luigi games has an Super Attack that does sort of things as well. But at least those were pretty simple, it has an option an showing you how it works, keeping the buttons simple & they are unlimited with there MP to see how much u have left. Partners in Time Super Attack felt like an chore & it is just an waste. Again. I like the idea of the Item Bros Attack. But the way they work is lacklustering. Lastly, the bosses take way too long to kill. Again, I will give them credit for having an unique bosses in there pattern. The way they constructed on the bosses makes it pretty interesting. But man! Do they take so long to get all there HP to go all the way down. Even if you use those Item Bros to deal more damage on the bosses, they still drag longer. I rather have the bosses be done quickly than spending more than 6 or 7 minutes on those bosses with non-phases that drags. Those are the critism I have with Partners in Time & I'm pretty sure alot of people complaints about those I mention as well. Now I don't think Partners in Time is an bad game by all means. It's not. And it's not even the worst Mario RPG. That honor goes to Paper Mario: Sticker Star. But I will say it is the weakest of the Mario & Luigi games ( not counting Paper Jam ). It does have many of it's flaws that I wish it could've been fixed & been an much better experience of an game. There are some things I do like about the game. But there many others that throws me off. Again. It's not an trash or terrible game. It's fine as it is. But it is nowhere near as great as other Mario RPGs like Superstar Saga, Bowser's Inside Story, The Thousand Year Door or Paper Mario 64 or any Mario games in general has. Heck. I even rather play Dream Team, Super Mario RPG, Super Paper Mario & Color Splash over Partners in Time. If u like the game, than that's fine. But I just couldn't get into Partners in Time all that much.
It didn't sell well because of everything else coming out at the time. DOing that is like if SEGA didn't make sonic boom fire and ice. which they did make fire and ice despite the other 2 boom games failing.
This was my first Mario and Luigi game, and I still love it dearly. I actually hated it when I was younger, because I thought it was the most difficult RPG ever. But back then, I never grinded, and I avoided most enemies (oops). I was severely under leveled... and hoo boy was the final boss a nightmare... But!! I managed to finish the game several years later, and I’m grateful that I learned from my mistakes. I actually grew to love the game again, and now it’s probably one of my favourite Mario RPGs ever. Sorry, I didn’t mean to go on a tangent there, because it isn’t entirely related to the video. But you can’t tell how happy I was to see this pop up in my recommended! Keep up the great work, man :)
I was like level 24 when I fought the final boss and got annihilated, but my brother is amazing at all games so he beat it despite being cripplingly under leveled! That was one of the best moments of my childhood yeara
This is my favorite game in the Mario & Luigi series, and it's all because of the fun interactions between the bros. and the babies. Baby Luigi helping Luigi find his courage is just so dang sweet.
For anyone wondering, the one touch screen required bit is used to stop piracy, emulators didn't used to be able to use the touch screen, every game in the series has an anti piracy measure like this, mics in the next one and tilt in the 4th if I remember correctly, don't remember anything like that in the 5th
In the DS emulator that I use, it allows for use of touchscreens. It also lets you use a button for the mic, but it's a bit finicky and doesn't always work.
@@robertofenloch9595 yeah but at the time this game released they didn't, similar to why they changed to mic controls in inside story for the next one, because mics weren't working on emulators, once that started working they went to tilt, not sure if emulators do tilt controls atm
I played a (legit) version of BiS on Desmume, I had to toy with the settings quite a few times and I can confirm it has a lot more anti-piracy measures than any other DS. games ... The game also lags a lot on its own for no reason it's kinda funny. I hope they had done the same with the DS Pokemon games ; that would have helped a lot with how much these have been/are being pirated :/
As much as I don't like Partners in Time, I would've agreed that they should've remake that game than Bowser's Inside Story. Because honestly, Partners in Time has many flaws that needs to be fixed.

This game is by far the worst. And not in the "it's still good, but just not as good as the others" like you could say for other series. Partners in Time is straight up garbage. EDIT: I just remembered Dream Team. _That's_ the worst in this franchise, and also garbage. But Partners in Time is a close second.
I had this game but I can't remember beating it I want to say I did but I don't remember anything from this game. I never finished paper jam I never liked that game and I never played dream team but I plan to someday.
In bowser inside story there is a callback to partners in time and even some enemies are frozen in bowser castle that you can fight (i'm even sure that they have the battle music from partners in time and you get a special attack from them)

I've been going through a rough time recently after feeling super suicidal from my first year in high school. I just want you to know, I thank you.
My favorite playthrough was ONLY defeating boss fights and other can't-skip fights (I'm no speed-runner or glitch-master). Elder Princess Shroob took a couple hours to beat, there was no way to destroy all tentacles before she re-healed so I just went for her head with repetitive moves (yes, I did 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-.....-1-1 until she died).
Jirard even if I can’t always watch your videos you will always hold a special place in my heart for being the first youtuber that made me consistently want to come back to watch. I love the content you and Alex make, and I deeply appreciate this look into one of my most nostalgic and beloved games. Thank you for all you do, you blessed beardman!

This game ruled, it took me 4 playthroughs to put it down. I love how the mario rpgs implement timed actions in combat & platforming outside it. Great vid brobocop!
It's a shame how under-appreciated this game really is. It's always been my favorite in this particular series. I loved the first GBA game and was stoked when I learned a sequel was coming out. All of the games have good mechanics but the four-party combat in this title in particular is the best the series has to offer in my opinion with my only real complaint being switching Bros. Moves to consumable items. It's way too easy to have a huge stockpile of the best attacks, making any challenge mostly redundant.
This was my first Mario & Luigi game, it holds a deep place in my childhood. Too bad they skipped remaking it. Thanks for honoring this game by dedicating an entire episode of The Completionist too it.
This whole game felt like a never ending beginners tutorial with all the hand holding and how linear it was. I was in denial for the first few hours and thought that maybe there was gonna finally be an exploration aspect, but that never happened. I even thought that maybe there was gonna be a post game with actual challenges and more to do, but nah
Since Jirard said it, I want to be clear that a Mario and Luigi game but starring Wario and Waluigi instead is literally one of my biggest dreams that Nintendo will forever leave unfulfilled.
Man, I have a special place in my heart for this game. Back when I was like 10, the only console I owned was a ps1, so games like these were limited to what I could emulate. But this was one of the two games available in the demo DS' there were in a mall I would go with my parents every weekend, so every weekend I would advance little by little trying to manage with what would be left of people playing during the week...till someone deleted the save in the last dungeon Thanks whoever did that, I still remember it 13 years later
Oh my god this video was such a nostalgia trip! Partners in time is kinda special for me cause it was my first ever DS game that came bundled with my DS when I bought it. I really didnt want this game at the time. I had saved up enough to buy the DS starter kit bundle which came with a game but not enough to buy all the stuff individually so I was stuck with only the game in the bundle until I saved up more. The bundle I wanted was gone so I had to pick from the last few that I really didn't want. I went with Mario only because I had no familiarity with the other games and really came to love it! My sis & I used to lay on the floor, take turns and watch each other play. It was so much fun. We ran into a wall for the final boss and just could not beat it! Taking a break we moved onto other games and never went back to finish it and I sold it somewhere along the way. I miss it though. I really wanna go back and buy a copy sometime...
THIS IS MY FAVORITE MARIO GAME OF ALL TIME! I've been hoping you'd review this it holds a special place in my heart. Back when I was a ward of the state and suffering frim severe depression this game kept me going and kept a smile on my face. I know it inside and out the last time I played it I beat it in 11 hours without dying once lol I've beaten it over 30 times. Thank you so much Jirard for playing this. :)
the Alien language used in partners in time is just a cheap ripoff of the Mr. Saturn language from the Mother series. The big difference is you can actually read the Mr. Saturn Letters.
That doesn't always mean it's a good game compared to Superstar Saga & Bowser's Inside Story. Partners in Time is without a doubt the worst Mario & Luigi game.
JJ C I think Bowser’s Inside Story is... the second worst. Bowser as a playable character? Done that. Mushroom Kingdom with no variation? Boo. Fawful? He was good as a henchman and a cameo, and now you expect me to believe he’s gone full villain leader? Except for Dream Team, I’d rank the other games over BiS. Yes, I DID say that.

Close paper jam gets to being remotely dark with acting like you may have left the Bowser jr.s ready to die then doing nothing with it but having Bowser consumed in anger to almost kill peach and then nothing else it probably the least dark
I love all three Mario and Luigi games I Played (I sadly never played superstar saga) and I have to say Partners in time had the best story, Bowsers inside story had the best music and Dream team bros the best battle system. But they’re all great in every way possible💙
We need a Super Mario RPG remake for the Switch! And maybe with a post game story that lets us go up to lv 60 for the final boss. Kinda like Final Fantasy 4 the after years type of content add on. Or something like that.

Now if only the editors would do some Picture-in-Picture to highlight what he was talking about as he was talking about it, it would make the whole cameo segments really good and not embarrass their Patreons...
If this game ever got a remake it could thrive through some of the following: - More cameos from other characters in their past forms. - More unlockable areas within peaches castle as the game progresses (such as a room for boss rush for example). - More collectibles and reasons to return to past areas. - Maybe some exploration of the present areas. - Bosses with less health and stronger attacks.
This was the only Mario & Luigi series game I played, and I love to see the babies from the spin-offs I play actually team up with the bros, and see that they're not alone in the Mushroom Kingdom before Galaxy showed up I think, while also giving us a time travel adventure.
One thing I'm kinda bummed out about is that in the Japanese and I think maybe the European version of this game has an extra song in the end credits that plays when the picture shows and it is one of the most underrated songs in all of mario and this song dosen't exist in the data of the north American version one thing I should also mention is that in the Japanese and European version the bosses and difficulty of this game is much easier for example the final boss has a total of around 7k HP in the Japanese and European version the final boss has half of the total HP so yeah the NTSC version is much harder that the Japanese and PAL versions
It makes me soooo goddamn happy seeing you play this game, its my all time favorite mario game and everyone seems to never have anything good to say about it (this is before watching more than like 2 mins of the video)

i disagree about the part where u say there’s no point to being in the other worlds/exploring once you’ve completed the objective. as a kid i spent so much time in all the places trying to build up coins lol

Super Underrated. I loved the battles with the babies, loved the darker story, and didn’t mind the fact that bro moves were items. I would say it’s better than Paper Jam and Superstar Saga.
This was the first DS game I ever played. I remember finding it really short and pretty easy, not liking it as much as Superstar Saga, but still loving every second of playing it. Thanks for the nostalgic romp Jirard!

This game is by far the worst. And not in the "it's still good, but just not as good as the others" like you could say for other series. Partners in Time is straight up garbage.
EDIT: I just remembered Dream Team. _That's_ the worst in this franchise, and also garbage. But Partners in Time is a close second.

In bowser inside story there is a callback to partners in time and even some enemies are frozen in bowser castle that you can fight (i'm even sure that they have the battle music from partners in time and you get a special attack from them)

Partners in time is so underrated and its is my personal Fav Mario and Luigi rpg i really like time travel and sci fi elements
My favorite playthrough was ONLY defeating boss fights and other can't-skip fights (I'm no speed-runner or glitch-master). Elder Princess Shroob took a couple hours to beat, there was no way to destroy all tentacles before she re-healed so I just went for her head with repetitive moves (yes, I did 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-.....-1-1 until she died).

This game ruled, it took me 4 playthroughs to put it down. I love how the mario rpgs implement timed actions in combat & platforming outside it. Great vid brobocop!

It's a shame how under-appreciated this game really is. It's always been my favorite in this particular series. I loved the first GBA game and was stoked when I learned a sequel was coming out. All of the games have good mechanics but the four-party combat in this title in particular is the best the series has to offer in my opinion with my only real complaint being switching Bros. Moves to consumable items. It's way too easy to have a huge stockpile of the best attacks, making any challenge mostly redundant.

This whole game felt like a never ending beginners tutorial with all the hand holding and how linear it was. I was in denial for the first few hours and thought that maybe there was gonna finally be an exploration aspect, but that never happened. I even thought that maybe there was gonna be a post game with actual challenges and more to do, but nah

The touchscreen wasn’t used much because they didn’t know the ds would have a touch screen during most of development.

Man, I have a special place in my heart for this game.
Back when I was like 10, the only console I owned was a ps1, so games like these were limited to what I could emulate. But this was one of the two games available in the demo DS' there were in a mall I would go with my parents every weekend, so every weekend I would advance little by little trying to manage with what would be left of people playing during the week...till someone deleted the save in the last dungeon

Oh my god this video was such a nostalgia trip! Partners in time is kinda special for me cause it was my first ever DS game that came bundled with my DS when I bought it. I really didnt want this game at the time.
I had saved up enough to buy the DS starter kit bundle which came with a game but not enough to buy all the stuff individually so I was stuck with only the game in the bundle until I saved up more. The bundle I wanted was gone so I had to pick from the last few that I really didn't want. I went with Mario only because I had no familiarity with the other games and really came to love it! My sis & I used to lay on the floor, take turns and watch each other play. It was so much fun. We ran into a wall for the final boss and just could not beat it! Taking a break we moved onto other games and never went back to finish it and I sold it somewhere along the way. I miss it though. I really wanna go back and buy a copy sometime...

Back when I was a ward of the state and suffering frim severe depression this game kept me going and kept a smile on my face. I know it inside and out the last time I played it I beat it in 11 hours without dying once lol I've beaten it over 30 times. Thank you so much Jirard for playing this. :)
the Alien language used in partners in time is just a cheap ripoff of the Mr. Saturn language from the Mother series. The big difference is you can actually read the Mr. Saturn Letters.

I love all three Mario and Luigi games I Played (I sadly never played superstar saga) and I have to say Partners in time had the best story, Bowsers inside story had the best music and Dream team bros the best battle system. But they’re all great in every way possible💙
We need a Super Mario RPG remake for the Switch! And maybe with a post game story that lets us go up to lv 60 for the final boss. Kinda like Final Fantasy 4 the after years type of content add on. Or something like that.

If this game ever got a remake it could thrive through some of the following:
- More cameos from other characters in their past forms.
- More unlockable areas within peaches castle as the game progresses (such as a room for boss rush for example).
- More collectibles and reasons to return to past areas.
- Maybe some exploration of the present areas.
- Bosses with less health and stronger attacks.
If only the actual mario games had the type of plot that is in these games.
This was the only Mario & Luigi series game I played, and I love to see the babies from the spin-offs I play actually team up with the bros, and see that they're not alone in the Mushroom Kingdom before Galaxy showed up I think, while also giving us a time travel adventure.

The soundtrack might be one of my favorite of all time.
One thing I'm kinda bummed out about is that in the Japanese and I think maybe the European version of this game has an extra song in the end credits that plays when the picture shows and it is one of the most underrated songs in all of mario and this song dosen't exist in the data of the north American version one thing I should also mention is that in the Japanese and European version the bosses and difficulty of this game is much easier for example the final boss has a total of around 7k HP in the Japanese and European version the final boss has half of the total HP so yeah the NTSC version is much harder that the Japanese and PAL versions
@Reesie the Axew she heals 120 HP in the north American version while in other regions it's only 80 HP
The only version I played is the European one. Guess I have to play NA now, since it's harder.

i disagree about the part where u say there’s no point to being in the other worlds/exploring once you’ve completed the objective. as a kid i spent so much time in all the places trying to build up coins lol

Super Underrated. I loved the battles with the babies, loved the darker story, and didn’t mind the fact that bro moves were items. I would say it’s better than Paper Jam and Superstar Saga.
This was the first DS game I ever played. I remember finding it really short and pretty easy, not liking it as much as Superstar Saga, but still loving every second of playing it. Thanks for the nostalgic romp Jirard!
