  • After previously making a silver bead chain I want to make another one by delft clay casting silver beads this time.
    In my first video “making a silver beads chain” I showed how I assembled the beads into a wrist chain, so i’ve not included that in this video it’s more about delft clay casting silver beads.
    If you’d like to see how I assembled the silver bead chain, here’s a link to the original video.

    Hi Nick, this is fabulously inspiring, thank you so much - I want to ask if you could work with Argentium for a while, it reaches temperature much more quickly than silver, but looks less hot, it is fragile and brittle when hot and mustn't be touched till all pinkness has gone. It is always recycled. A very creative and perpetually self-fusing alloy. But, I am cautious due to extra expense, limited resources and lack of confidence and my equipment doesn't come close to the stuff you have 😬

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Viv thanks for your comment and suggestion. i’ve been looking forward to trying Argentium however I’ve been resisting investing any more in silver as I still have the majority of a kilo of fine grain still to play with. I bought a bar many years ago when it was a lot cheaper than it is today. What I have in stock cost me just less than 60p a gram and turning it into sterling saves a little bit more. I do you feel privileged having a double garage that I can fill with tools and equipment to my hearts content … good luck with your endeavours … N

      @@Nickscreativestuff omg, you didn't need to explain in such detail, your circumstances are your business, but thank you for getting back to me. I really enjoy your videos, love this solid silver chain, and really struggling to cut the hole in the side of my aluminium casting thing. I drilled as many holes as I could but still having to get the saw round - nightmare!

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff  9 месяцев назад +1

      I think it’s strange that those aluminium casting rings don’t come with a pre-drilled hole in the side, it seems so obvious to have and necessary.
      I use a vertical cast set up much more often than horizontal. it’s also much more economical with the clay as accessing the burnt portion to discard is a lot easier as the mould opens cleanly … have fun … N

    Thats more ideas your giving me Nick, ive never tried casting with Delft although i bought some Christmas baubles for the tree last time i was there. It is a lovely place to spend time. I really dont onow when im going to get started with the jewellery, i think im just going to have to allot some days per week and do it that way. Im itvhing to get going again but the 50tonne is arriving soon so. Hope your doing well mate and are all prepped for Christmas.👍

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff  9 месяцев назад

      you’ll have to give Delft Clay a go, real gold baubles would look nice and glam on your tree. 50 tons of wood to deal with give me back ache just thinking about it these days. By allocating Mondays and Tuesdays to jewellery making i’ve got all my pressies finished and wrapped already.
      Now only need to think about buying a turkey … have a good one … Nick.

      @@Nickscreativestuff I have a 2.5 tonne digger with a claw so that helps a lot, goose for me turkey for everyone else. Looking forward to seeing my 2 year old granddaughters face on Christmas morning. Looking unlikely to be a white Christmas in the Highlands. I wouldn't have to travel far to see some as Been Wyvis was covered last week. I can see it on the other side of the Firth and I'm glad I'm warm by the fire.😃

    Omg wow I never k ew we could cast at home so easily! This has just blown my creative into a firework of possibilities! You know how the pearl is the IT item for men right now at around choker size. You could make a 6mm solid silver all ball chain . This has seriously blown my mind I thought we would need a lot of expensive equipment like a plugged in furnace etc I have already ordered some crucible tongs and a few graphite moulds as I will be wanting to recycle all my scrap from my making anyway. And from what I can see I would only need to purchase delft sand some flasks and baby powder the rest I have already woohoo thank you for sharing. Kirt

    • @Nickscreativestuff
      @Nickscreativestuff  3 месяца назад +1

      Delft Clay is a really nice product to use, it gets a bit obsessive trying to perfect designs and results. it’s definitely a cheap version of casting compared to other options however it is greedy for scrap metal and it quickly uses up all the bits and bobs that have been saved up for awhile. a large torch is important to help get the metal up to temperature reasonably quickly although tiny bowl crucibles are available from cousinsuk.com allowing smaller castings to reach temperature a lot easier … N

      @Nickscreativestuff yeah I noticed you use a fan brush I gotta set of small little brushes. And small crucibles so I should be fine. Yeah I noticed this particular way of casting seams the most cost effective from what I have seen already
