I think you missed the point of the movie. Or maybe it didn’t really need to be shown. Towards the end when Joe played the piano, he remembered all the things that made him happy that wasn’t playing on the piano, including teaching. So I’d imagine that he went back to inspire the kids. Pixar’s message is to live life, not necessarily be obsessed with a purpose. So I guess they made that part open ended

This may seem counter intuitive but if you are like most with this specific problem try putting LESS into your Sahasrara and more into your Muladhara. The usual advice is to focus on the higher chakras, but if you are able to spirit walk then what can happen is the lower chakras become weakened. As always, perfecting balance is the goal. Also, once your chakras are balanced, try starting with the sign spinning. Only once you have that going should you allow the rest of yourself go to The Zone. If you start travelling first then the part of you that you need to spin the sign wants to tag along and once that happens it can't find its way back to your body on its own. Shubhkaamnaaen.

I may be weird but every time 22 refuse to "get born" basicly, I was imaging her hopless parents to be trying to get pregnant with no results. Kind of suck we didn't get to see her with her mom and dad.
I'm actually glad we didn't see 22 as a human by the end because that woulda been too weird, in my opinion, and I like the mystery of it, but I LOVE your headcanon about her parents trying to conceive forever, that's fascinating.
Only problem with this is that 22 is literally the 22nd soul ever, so she's been "not getting born" for thousands upon thousands of years. And I don't think her eventual parents lived that long.
I don’t think that’s how it works. We see a new soul that’s numbered in the hundred billions, which’s about the number of humans who have ever lived, so low 22 was probably the 22nd soul. It looks like the souls from The Great Before just jump into Earth and end up in any random body.
The scene where that Terry sends a couple of souls into the insecurity pavillion casually is probably one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen in a movie, ever.

When I started the movie, I was thinking that the message would be how fulfilling teaching is, how even though he hasn't become famous, he's still leaving a legacy by inspiring his students, like the guy in the band used to be his student and the girl that's really good but almost quit. I thought the movie would be the homage to teachers and even though their job seems thankless, it's still important and amazing. Guess not... 😔
I still prefer this version. Sure, the idea you brought up would make a good movie. But this movie had to keep the kids in mind, thus they needed to be a wacky adventure that would keep them interested. Plus, I still like the message and the heartwarming moments the movie gave. Problem with the movie is the world building and the plot holes it disregards. If we were to match it up with Coco (another movie about the afterlife), we can see that Coco succeeded in what Soul failed in because the former cared enough to add reason and causes into what was happening. Soul did make those attempts. But at times when it tried to wow us (e.g bringing up the great before as a place of illusion), it just opened a plothole since sight is a bodily sense. In the end, the messages were clear. So I'm at least happy about that.
The joke about making hitlers and megalomaniacs was that they didn’t really care what personalities were formed. It’s Earth’s problem, not theirs. They just make the products :)
The real-world stuff actually looks way more interesting to me than the Great Before stuff... and I kinda thought the moral of the story would be him realizing that his real dream WAS to teach the next generation about music, since he had spent so much time with 22 mentoring her.
If they made it clear that he chose teaching over everything else, then yes, but since his choice at the end is ambiguous, the moral to the story becomes the ending you give him. If you think that he stays a teacher then he does and the moral/message becomes about the reluctant teacher who inspires the music. If you think he becomes the Jazz musician he dreamed of, then the moral becomes about never giving up on your dreams regardless of what people around you think (the characters mother) Both of these are justified in the film
@@SeraphsWitness Yeah, I thought it was going for the finding meaning in teaching thing too. I was kind of hoping after giving 22 the badge, he would stay dead and continue being a mentor for new souls. Bringing him back to life really cheapened the ending for me.
People “finding a life in teaching” is such an overused trope though. And regarding the point you made about how “learning that you can’t always achieve your dreams” is pretty well covered in other media such as Zootopia and StardewValley and is starting to get stale. It would also conflict with the more unique message of the movie which is that when you spend your entire life chacing an endeavor, finally completing that endeavor isn’t going to erase all of the problems in your life. And just because he had a pretty good connection with one child doesn’t mean he would be an incredible teacher. I could use the same logic to say that the ending should’ve been that he became a parent because of all of that time he spent with 22. But that’s the beauty of this ending. Your teacher idea could’ve happened, my hypothetical parent idea could’ve also happened. The moral is to just live and to make sure to go wherever the road takes you and make sure to smell the roses because those roses will smell better than wherever that road takes you.
@@darrenmacqueen9884 I feel like him staying dead or even in limbo would’ve ruined the message because it would essentially say “make sure to live your life to the fullest but hey you can die whenever you want” the message is about living in the moment, and in order for him to live the life he has learned to live through his time with 22 he needs to have a second chance. If he just stayed in the past then it would conflict the message of living in the moment by making him quite literally live in the past, a massive over correction to him living in the future at the beginning.
Tbh, I love soul. It’s a good movie and by the end of this video I’m gonna hate it, thank you Ryan, it must be super easy barely an inconvenience of you.

@@ignaciotaborda6538 I don't think it's necessarily that they don't have morality but rather that they understand the balance of life. Humanity needs both good and darkness to survive. The one Counselor Jerry said they are "the coming together of all quantized fields of the universe"....in other words they are parts of the entire universe, with all knowledge and matter and are able set into motion all necessary things and beings.
He's talking about the barber and tailor scenes like they're filler time, but the whole message of the movie is that filler is what life is all about.
My thoughts exactly, that's what's likely going to make up most of your life anyway - mundane tasks and building connections to the people around you.
My favorite filler moment was when Joe was eating pie in the diner while it was raining. There's nothing better than good food with atmosphere

It always bothered me Joe didn't decide to pursue his passion by inspiring young students artistically. Kind of felt like they missed a good message.

I think you missed the point of the movie. Or maybe it didn’t really need to be shown. Towards the end when Joe played the piano, he remembered all the things that made him happy that wasn’t playing on the piano, including teaching.
So I’d imagine that he went back to inspire the kids. Pixar’s message is to live life, not necessarily be obsessed with a purpose. So I guess they made that part open ended

It was impressive how little thought was put into the implications of almost every joke or decision in this movie. Especially for a Pixar movie.
They're throwaway jokes. Pixar has always engaged in it. They're not meant to be held onto too tightly. It'd be like getting mad at a character who breaks the 4th wall in a movie.
I kinda like how these things kinda tend to poke holes at the logic of even good movies.

This may seem counter intuitive but if you are like most with this specific problem try putting LESS into your Sahasrara and more into your Muladhara. The usual advice is to focus on the higher chakras, but if you are able to spirit walk then what can happen is the lower chakras become weakened. As always, perfecting balance is the goal.
Also, once your chakras are balanced, try starting with the sign spinning. Only once you have that going should you allow the rest of yourself go to The Zone. If you start travelling first then the part of you that you need to spin the sign wants to tag along and once that happens it can't find its way back to your body on its own.

I may be weird but every time 22 refuse to "get born" basicly, I was imaging her hopless parents to be trying to get pregnant with no results. Kind of suck we didn't get to see her with her mom and dad.
I'm actually glad we didn't see 22 as a human by the end because that woulda been too weird, in my opinion, and I like the mystery of it, but I LOVE your headcanon about her parents trying to conceive forever, that's fascinating.
Only problem with this is that 22 is literally the 22nd soul ever, so she's been "not getting born" for thousands upon thousands of years. And I don't think her eventual parents lived that long.

I don’t think that’s how it works. We see a new soul that’s numbered in the hundred billions, which’s about the number of humans who have ever lived, so low 22 was probably the 22nd soul. It looks like the souls from The Great Before just jump into Earth and end up in any random body.

When I started the movie, I was thinking that the message would be how fulfilling teaching is, how even though he hasn't become famous, he's still leaving a legacy by inspiring his students, like the guy in the band used to be his student and the girl that's really good but almost quit. I thought the movie would be the homage to teachers and even though their job seems thankless, it's still important and amazing.

I still prefer this version. Sure, the idea you brought up would make a good movie. But this movie had to keep the kids in mind, thus they needed to be a wacky adventure that would keep them interested. Plus, I still like the message and the heartwarming moments the movie gave.
Problem with the movie is the world building and the plot holes it disregards. If we were to match it up with Coco (another movie about the afterlife), we can see that Coco succeeded in what Soul failed in because the former cared enough to add reason and causes into what was happening.
Soul did make those attempts. But at times when it tried to wow us (e.g bringing up the great before as a place of illusion), it just opened a plothole since sight is a bodily sense.
In the end, the messages were clear. So I'm at least happy about that.
Who says he couldn't do both? It's not like it was implied in the movie that he dumped his teaching job and just focused on his jazz gigs?

The real-world stuff actually looks way more interesting to me than the Great Before stuff... and I kinda thought the moral of the story would be him realizing that his real dream WAS to teach the next generation about music, since he had spent so much time with 22 mentoring her.
If they made it clear that he chose teaching over everything else, then yes, but since his choice at the end is ambiguous, the moral to the story becomes the ending you give him.
If you think that he stays a teacher then he does and the moral/message becomes about the reluctant teacher who inspires the music.
If you think he becomes the Jazz musician he dreamed of, then the moral becomes about never giving up on your dreams regardless of what people around you think (the characters mother)
Both of these are justified in the film

People “finding a life in teaching” is such an overused trope though. And regarding the point you made about how “learning that you can’t always achieve your dreams” is pretty well covered in other media such as Zootopia and StardewValley and is starting to get stale. It would also conflict with the more unique message of the movie which is that when you spend your entire life chacing an endeavor, finally completing that endeavor isn’t going to erase all of the problems in your life. And just because he had a pretty good connection with one child doesn’t mean he would be an incredible teacher. I could use the same logic to say that the ending should’ve been that he became a parent because of all of that time he spent with 22. But that’s the beauty of this ending. Your teacher idea could’ve happened, my hypothetical parent idea could’ve also happened. The moral is to just live and to make sure to go wherever the road takes you and make sure to smell the roses because those roses will smell better than wherever that road takes you.

If he just stayed in the past then it would conflict the message of living in the moment by making him quite literally live in the past, a massive over correction to him living in the future at the beginning.
