For the EV800D, one can acquire a 3D printed insert to increase focal length. There is a guy on eBay who makes them. Standards lengths or your own requirement. It fits between the two sections.
Hey Andy. I have a newer batch EV800D and they freeze on DVR also. The only thing I got is to first power on the googles, start the recording, and after that switch on the airplane camera and vtx. IN that case, when there is noise in the image, the DVR DOES NOT stop recording but goes to BLUE screen. At least when the image is recovered in the screen the recorded video goes from blue screen to image again. It is a solution, but still not how FPV goggles supposed to work.
Hi! I just got ev800d. To my great regret, I have this problem, after bad reception, the recording stops. I tried following your advice, but that didn’t help . dvr records noise a couple of seconds and turns off. No blue screen at all, just noise. Could you write again in detail how you are doing, or maybe you have a video? Thanks!
I higly recommend you get the ev800dm . it has clearer image , better colors , not so much eye strain , they are lighter and fit better on the face.(and you can use glases)
It's funny, but none of the reviewers seem to care much about the ev800/d popping out to be a screen, but I love it for one big reason: bench work. When I want to check the vtx functionality, change camera settings, etc etc it's been SO NICE to just have a nice big screen rather than needing to use my goggles. Even though I have fatsharks now, i still make use of the 800s.

@@Mindauxx You are a genius! Your trick works good on mine. And its also a good way to don't forget to start recording. @AndyRC you should put this solution in the Video´s information. I think is important enough as a reason to buy or not this goggles.
Had to mod my 800D because the screen was NOT far enough from my face. I don't wear glasses or contacts but I could not focus with the 800D so close to my face. (Maybe I am just getting old) I had to mod them by adding a 1 inch spacer to move the screen further away from my face. I really like the adjustable focal distance on the 800DM, and the lighter weight. I might just consider replacing my 800D at some point, if the image is acceptable on the DMs.
I've bought EV800Ds for $68 on the 11.11. sale (the price was with shipping) and I won't complain in case video file is going to be corrupted when video signal is lost - I'll rather increase video transmitting power.
I use my EV800 (Non-D) up to 2km using a big patch antenna with no issues what so ever.. Reason being I cant withstand the super minuscule FOV of fatsharks so I am stuck with box goggles until I find something to my taste.. I bought a pair of these on sale just waiting for them to arrive to compare them to my EV800s.
