Goede video . Fijne muziek . Goede microscopische beelden . Zeer gedegen en educatieve technische uitleg . Eén minpuntje : in bijna elke zin zegt U , eeuhh , wat op de duur een beetje storend en afleidend is . Brass is messing , niet koper .

Greetings from Ireland Kalle. Did you ever discuss the final stage in timing a cylinder escapement with reference to the three dots?

  • @brunod269
    @brunod269 3 года назад +2

Great Kalle ! I missed this live one. I like cylinder :)
(By the way, dials are not made onto brass but with coper, the glass enamel couldn't survive brass dilation while cooling after melting. Usually double sided enameled to ensure homogenous cooling which doesn't torque the dial and break it.) ;)
    Thanks for sharing :)
    Bruno

I have a pocket watch but don't know which model is that. "Galonne 39315" inside of first case, "Remontoir Metal" on second case, carved face of a lady on outer most case.

I am working on a pocket watch movement almost the same as the one you are showing. It has no markings any where except for 326082 on the main plate? Also, missing spring under the barrel. Thanks again!

Wonderful diagnostic information and lovely magnified videography makes it so easy to understand, Thank you. I will look for the second part, where you put it all together. Could you do a video on the replacement of a cylinder balance please, I have some watches in which the wheel train is fine, and the cylinder balance looks fine, but I just cannot put them together so that they work together.

Nice to hear from you! Cylinder escapement is something special and often cumbersome because of the huge ware and tare over the years, I'll keep it in mind!

Dear Kalle, what if a part gets damaged within repairing?
Are there any spare parts to replace? and where can it be found?

    • @ChronoglideWatchmaking

Dear Saman, replacement part are very difficult to find for these old movements. We sometimes have to make parts ourselves during restoration. Kind regards, Kalle

In a situation where the brass has been worn down by a steel pin- would it be possible to remake the brass part out of steel?- I have heard many people mentioning this problem and I know the making a bushing and replacing it theory is the most common answer but I've never heard of anyone attempt to replicate the part out of steel- or for that matter why not press fit a steel bushing rather than a brass one?

hi master, I have a problem, with a pocket watch, cylinder escapement, the watch works great! the wheels without scales, turn very well, at the top! but when I put the scale on, the clock runs for a few hours, after which the second hand stops, at the same point, 8 o'clock, I don't understand why it stops! after that everything is okay! I have seen the rubies of the bridge of the Balance, and they are okay! then i saw the cylinder and it's okay! I tried to adjust the escapement…. but but nothing! what can be the problem? I wait for your answer thank you

Try ebay but older parts are getting scarce. We just got an IWC in that IWC itself could't repair in Schaffhausen.

Magnificent watch Kalle. Great to see you at work. Ironically I just finished a movement very similar called a Fontainemelon, but it was in a solid silver case.
I was worried about using ultrasonic so cleaned it by hand. Would ultrasonic be ok to clean a gilt movement? And also I added some 9415 (just a tiny dot) to every 3 or 4 teeth on the escapement. Is that ok? Kind regards Deggsie

It should be fine as long as it's 42khz or higher frequency. I just cleaned a gilt 1890 Elgin 18s and it came out beautiful.
