    runs good Elgin must have made a million of these i still see them at antique stores and ebay, back in the day at the lake not everyone needed to go fast.

      Thank you. Yes, they built a LOT of these little motors. They do come up quite often, although I see more 5hp and 7.5hp twins than I do of the 2.5hp singles these days. The 1.25hp air cooled ones are getting hard to find a good one at a reasonable price anymore. I still would like one of those, but I don't want one that was beaten or worn totally put. These little guys sold for $77 at the end of the 1940s. Quite a bit of money in the late 1940s for a small and very basic fishing motor but a low enough cost to put one in the hands of many average folks back then. Thanks for watching!

      Yes, it is a nice running, good starting little motor. The float valve in the carb still leaks a bit, so I have to turn off the fuel if I shut it off. If I can get that little issue fixed, it will be great. Very light little motor. Thanks for watching, Greg!

    Always glad to see a “barn find” running again! Nice one Ben! You’ll have to show the Evinrude 4 running sometime. Have a great weekend! Mark in Iowa.

      I was happy to get this little motor running again. Ron, myself, and some others are planning to do another ice cream run to the Dairy Queen in Tomahawk next year. We are going to run single cylinder Elgins next year sub 3hp. He's running a 1.25hp air cooled and I'm planning to run this 2.5 water cooled. We'll see what else we find and who joins us. Thanks for watching!

    I have the 1.25, 2, 2.5, 5.5, 6, and the 7.5 hp Elgins. My 2.5 looks and runs realy nice but it has a little bit of play at the top end bushing. I run it sparingly. Not very balanced I guess. They made a 3.5 hp twin too. Still looking for one of them.

      I have a 2, this 2.5, a 5 and a 7.5hp. I'm still looking for a nice 1.25. They're well built little motors and they typically run quite nicely. Thanks for watching!

      I saw a 1.25 that was mint in an antique shop not long ago but it was labeled as a wizard and was paintet white ish. I don't know if it was a Chysler or West Bend. The guy wanted $400.00 for it. A bit much I think. Thanks for videos. You do a good job.

      It was doing a solid 4.5mph. Not bad for a 2.5hp motor with less than 5 cubic inches of displacement pushing a 16 foot aluminum boat. Thanks for watching!

      @@oldjohnnyrude8404 I have a question in relations to an older video of yours. For the QD-16 (Seahorse 10 hp 1955), what size fuel line would you recommend for it? I can't seem to find any twin/dual ones anywhere, so I'll have to use two seperate ones.

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  10 месяцев назад

      @@thejediorder3586 5/32" is the correct size fuel hose. 3/16/ will also work, but is not as snug and is a bigger risk of a leak, even with clamps. I highly recommend the 5/32" line. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
