What would cause it to do this, bad spark plug or just bad coil pack? I’m trying to figure out if it’s should replace the spark plug also or just the coil pack. Thanks for the video
EXCELLENT VIDEO! Clear, succinct, to-the-point explanation of what is being done, the reasons why, and the steps of exactly how it's done. Steady camera work, unlike most others in the auto diy field. Very pleasant, professional narration, too. Thanks for your great work.
I second this comment. I really appreciate the car ride because it shows what you experience when this happens. My car is doing this. Also the information about the last number indicating which coil was even more helpful. Thanks a bunch!
No Billy Joe Bob and his cousin Cooter with 90% personalty 10% information here. Very professionally produced & highly informative video (which is rare on youtube). Thumbs up to Temachok! Thank you and keep em coming.
Man this is the most down to earth explanation and excellent information. Straight to the point without a bunch of antics claiming the whole car needs to be rebuilt. My Xterra just threw this code on the way home from work at 3am. Not a good time for car troubles. Never even knew you could just buy the boots and new wires! Save a ton of money and hassle. Thank you!
Dude I just wanna say thank you. You made me look like a fucking bad ass last night. My sisters 2009 Altima was throwing misfire code on 3, same hesitating symptoms. I originally was watching your spark plug video but in the comments lead me to this video. I did exactly this. Went out and got me a scanner, switched the coils around, and wouldn’t you know it the code changed to the cylinder I moved the faulty coil to. Upon closer inspection of it I could tell right away where it burnt out. Fixed this shit in 5 minutes. Thanks my dude. I owe you lunch my guy.
Thank you so much for this! My car had this exact problem and because of your video, I spent only $42 at the auto parts store and now my car is running great. The video was so clear and concise and you saved me likely hundreds of dollars had I needed to bring it somewhere. Thank you again!
This was a great video! Thank you so much! My car (2003 Nissan Murano) was doing the exact same thing with the code p0302, and after watching this video it's running perfect! Thanks again!
I have had to learn a lot over a short time and I've binged on dozens of videos to figure things out. I can say for sure that your video is well paced (some videos I have to slow down to keep up with) and you show as much as you say. I have heard the word coil pack dozens of times but yours was the first video that made the simple point of taking out the coil - I previously thought it was more like a copper wire wrapped thing. So , yeah - thanks very much, liked and subscribed.
Thank you for making that easy! Some people just race right through the instructions not seeing everything they're doing, you did a fantastic job thank you very much
My '06 Maxima does the same thing. Starts shaking when I hit 35mph. I already replaced the cv axles a few months ago, and I just replaced the spark plugs last weekend. Never dawned on me that it's the ignition coil. The video helped out a lot. Will update after I change those bad boys out.
Thanks man, just the info I needed, so now instead of paying $530 for the repairs cost I was given by the Pep Boys Scamming Shop, I went online and spend $100 and will fix it my-self.
Michael, I bought an entire set of ignition coils for my 6 cylinder Nissan Maxima for a mere $80 at Amazon. They were shipped in 2 days. This price wasn't for the boots only, but new ignition coils. I wonder how long they'll last. One year will be enough as the replacement labor was not a big deal.
Simple explanation, good clarity, a lot better than so many so called professionals ..some too technical with their definition as if all their viewers are taking an automotive course to be certified mechanics and others too vague in their description. Guys remember that most of us come here because we recognize we are novices and need help to save us getting ripped off(so common in this industry)This video is awesome . Its .one of a kind, Straight forward, and directly to the point with a solution.. Two thumps up!! !:)
+Keith James Thank you! I greatly appreciate your thouths! That's exactly where I came from myself, and why I started sharing my experiences! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Thank you! Beside helping me with my 2006 FX4, it is a very detailed video, with a calmed and clear voice! Not what you usually see and hear around here
You can also run into a misfire if you've done a recent timing belt change. The crankshaft pulley sensor might need to be re-calibrated with the position of the pulley.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was having the same problem and was going to order 4 coils totaling $299.95 when just changing the boots cost me $47.95. It is a good and clear video, one of the best. Thank you, thank you.
This helped diagnose the exact same problem with my son's 2014 Sentra - cylinder #2 ignition coil on plug boot was bad. Each plug boot was only $7.50. Thanks!!!🙂
This is EXACTLY what's going on with my 08. Same cylinder and all, replaced all spark plugs and the problem is still there so I guess I need to try a new coil pack now....
Well.... Things haven't gone exactly as smooth to date. I replaced the one coil indicated on the diagnostic code (P0304) + spark plug and the car drove great without problem for about 15-20 mile test drive. Then as I pulled into a restaurant at near idle speed, the rough idle began again, then got completely worse until the check engine light came back on and sputtered all the way home. Scratched my head then figured the misfire was O2 Sensor related b/c I had also gotten that code (P0300) simultaneous to the (P0304). Replaced the Oxy Sensor and the misfiring has gotten worse still.... I'll first move to rule out the Cylinders 2 & 6 before things get really challenging. Since the Maxima is 6 Cylinders, the rear bank requires a lot more parts to remove before you can even access cylinders 1,3,&5. So, I'm guessing I'll have to complete the process with the other 5 to hopefully fix the problem. If not there, then maybe something more in wires or otherwise... But at least you got me somewhat comfortable with what to expect in the process.
Upon reviewing my work thus far (02 sensor, Cylinder 4 Ignition Coil + spark plug replacements), it turns out simply the O2 sensor wire connector wasn't snapped completely closed. Once I got the clamp closed and the connection snug, all the misfire issues were eliminated and engine performance returned to optimal - no misfires and the dashboard gauge turned off. The car accelerated with full normal power and ran extremely strong. SO - my original issues are gone. Since you and others indicate the other sensors are likely soon to fail, I'll look to replace Cylinders 2 & 6, then 1,3,& 5 soon thereafter. THANKS again for the help!!!
I agree with Peter Meiwaku "super easy to understand and you only give important facts. this is one of the BEST videos i've viewed. thank you ! A+" Peter Meiwaku. great video. Thanks
Thanks for the video. So I have taken my car in last week and I was told that I had a random misfire P0300. I knew I was having this problem for quite some time and have changed the spark plugs and coils myself as well as the pcv valve and the engine cover, also changed mass air flow sensor, fuel pump, throttle body, brand new crank and cam sensors, brand new front O2 sensor as well with no luck of the code leaving. A couple months back I had the code P0420 and was told I had to change the front catalytic converter which then I have done. $800 later. I was told the other day that I needed a tune up done because of the random misfire. I told them how I already changed the spark plugs and coils about 2 months or so ago. They did not charge me for the diagnostic but just told me that I should still get a tune up done because maybe it was not done right. I left and just got a pack of brand new spark plugs that are more well known as a good brand. I switched them out and cleared the code. Since then my car has been starting up stronger than it was before. I am unsure if the coils that I have bought (which I bought from Canadian tire..I live in canada btw it's an auto-home store) are even doing their job properly? for each coil was about $100 each and I had to get 4 obviously for my nissan. Before my car was having issues starting it would only start once or twice a day. I have checked my car for recent codes today and now I am getting P0420 code again and still have the random misfire code. I am really getting so frustrated with my car! Does anyone have any advice of what I should do? I know fuel injectors can cause a misfire as well but I have checked with the old school method of using a screw driver when it runs and all sound like they are doing their jobs. I was thinking maybe it's time to get the 2nd O2 sensor replaced now since the P0420 code is there. Every shop I go to they tell me different things and honestly I am ready to just drive the car until it completely dies at this point! Thanks for anyone who takes the time out to read this.
Fred KREMER what is the insulator? I just bought it and replaced it, cleared the codes and drove it for a day but didn’t Change anything. It’s all good though I ended up going to a dealership and getting a new vehicle :)
sorry it didnt help your car. those cars have problem with air leaks. causing what seems like major issues. my air intake duct was also split.good luck with your new car. did you get another nissan/?
hello tema! well I replaced the boots(only) and the car works excellent, now I going to change the engine cover following your video!!! thank to you I saved couple hundreds!!! thanks lots
Damn, I can't do this myself without a little yellow sticker! But seriously, great video! Straight to the point, no mucking about, unnecessary stuff edited out.. awesome!
I would like to thank you very much for that video I had my car rattling weak took it to the auto store and they diagnosed it it came up with cylinder 4 misfire and I only had to buy the boot ......running very well right now thank you very much appreciate it
A misfire can be anything from a faulty coil to a spark plug to a fuel injector or vacuum leak etc.....this is just one fix, others may be something else.
Mine has a leaky valve cover gasket. The seals around the spark plug wells are leaking and the oil built up and caused the spark to short. It can be several things for sure.
mines did the samething but I changed out my fuel injections and it stopped but change out the fuel injection wiring harness. your problems should be fixed.
P0300 means random misfire, but P0316 means random misfire in first 1000 revolutions first few minutes. If you don't have P0316, just P0300, it means you are failing on multiple cylinders when the car is in closed loop control, so more likely a sensor (crankshaft position sensor, oxygen sensor, maybe MAF sensor).
I change out the wiring harness and all the plugs but the car is still shaking when I come to a stop and when I drive sometime it act as if I can't get gas or something
Thank for explaining so clear. I understand now! I have a car 2018 Toyota camry se. I'm repair 90% and Im not mechanical and my brothers are so mechanical. My car is 115k mile. I got misfire cylinder 4. I got new coil pack. Also spark plugs
There are dozens of reasons why your car will trigger that code. What makes you think thats the way to fix it? Your coil packs could be brand new but your car can throw that code for another reason
He troubleshooted the problem exactly the way it should have been done: He tested the faulty part in each cylinder and got the same error code each time the part was moved to a different cylinder. Since the part was the only variable, it was the part that was faulty. Great video and done professionally and scientifically!
great video, great explanation.you saved me a lot of money & headaches by not having to go to a mechanic for my 2005 sentra. had a code P0304.thank you very much!!
Nice neat repair. New respect for the Nissan Altima engine layout. A little education. A few hand tools. And the repair can be done as a DIY project at home.
Thanks for the quick and informative video. This gave me a pretty good idea on how to procede with my Nissan 2006 with P0301 that I just got yesterday. Again, thank you for your time on putting this video together and sharring,
Thank you so much for this video. Different make and model but it helped me pinpoint the problem in my truck. I appreciate how thorough and concise you are. And the video is awesome quality. You rock!
Your video is great. Right to the point. My boot had the same pin hole burn mark that yours showed. The only part that I found inconclusive was using a OBD II scanner to reset the error codes does not show any misfire immediately when the ignition coil is swapped until car driven several miles. The car misfired immediately after the swap. Replacing the coil with the burn mark fixed the problem. How did you get the errror code to appear immedtately after the swap?
Wow your videos are really excellent and great in understanding and to the point. Now if I can have a mechanic like you around where I live that would be awesome
excellent excellent video! My 2001 Mercury villager (Nissan Maxima 3.3L V6) was getting P0305, after checking everything in ignition, fuel, intake, and vacuum systems I saw this video. I never thought that the boot could go bad and allow arcing, but this was the case and my boot only had a little dent with white and brown dust around it instead of a hole. Cheap ole me just wrapped it good with electrical tape and bingo... don't worry.. I'll replace em soon Cheers!
shrugs, that's a distributor system with a cap/rotor/ wire set... i got a 2002 quest with the same engine. so check the cap/rotor as well or change them all as preventative maintenance. my cap was cracked a while back and did a p0300
My 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 started running rough the other day. I ordered 4 brand new coils and they came in this evening. I'm going to install them in the morning along with the crankshaft sensor because it was throwing a code. However, the car never gave any codes for the coils, but I figured the needed replaced when I found oil in the spark plug wells. I replaces the plugs with new ones and replaced the valve cover gasket. I am going to replace the actual valve cover with a new one in the next week or two, just can't afford it right now because I have bought all the other parts, including a new fuel pump because the fuel gage doesn't work and I figured that built in filter might need to be changed as well. The person I got the car from did some minor upkeep on it but didn't check any of the things I've been replacing. I had to replace the radiator around the first of the year because the old one had a crack in the top. Also had to have the alternator rebuilt. I'm hoping that replacing the coils will fix the rough running. It's doing exactly like you described and around the same RPMs. I didn't check the coils to see how they looked. I should have. I will when I change them out tomorrow. Thanks for making the video.
Great video very educational and easy to understand. What if you replace a coil pack with one that you know is good and the cylinder is still misfiring? Any assistance id appreciate. Thanks

@edwardvalencia291 if you're replacing the coil packs you may as well change the plugs at this time
688 other "mechanics" didn't like your clear and precise information!! 🤣
For sure! 😂
Cuz is not a good full diagnostic 😂
I swapped the coils and I still have the same code 😅😢

Great video! I had an P0302. The swap the coils diagnostic tip nailed it. Thanks for the step by step easy video!
I just showed my granddaughter how to replace her coil packs. She did a great job.
Way to go! 👏
This was a great video! Thank you so much! My car (2003 Nissan Murano) was doing the exact same thing with the code p0302, and after watching this video it's running perfect! Thanks again!
Very good voice tone, pace, and camera work. Explanations are specific, clear, and doable for the non mechanic person. Have a great day.

this is the best video ever seen, very clear and well explained.

Your production is superb. I have seen professional training videos that weren't as clear and well done as yours.
Nice work! Very clear and thorough.

You can also run into a misfire if you've done a recent timing belt change. The crankshaft pulley sensor might need to be re-calibrated with the position of the pulley.
Thank you for sharing this!

🤓 Thanks!

Thank you, thank you.
this is so helpful< because i never knew what P0303 meant on the scanner, because never saw this kinda code thank you for loading this to the channel
Awesome dude, nice and clear video, thank you
This helped diagnose the exact same problem with my son's 2014 Sentra - cylinder #2 ignition coil on plug boot was bad. Each plug boot was only $7.50. Thanks!!!🙂
This is EXACTLY what's going on with my 08. Same cylinder and all, replaced all spark plugs and the problem is still there so I guess I need to try a new coil pack now....
Did it fix your problem? Mine is having the same issue!
Awesome video with clear instructions and root cause determination. Looks like I'll be replacing potentially all 6 ignition coil boots on our Maxima.
Thanks!
Well.... Things haven't gone exactly as smooth to date. I replaced the one coil indicated on the diagnostic code (P0304) + spark plug and the car drove great without problem for about 15-20 mile test drive. +Vroom !!!
Yea, working on big engines isn't much fun at all.
Let me know if it works after you are finished.
+Vroom !!!
P0300 is not necessarily O2 sensor related. It indicates multiple or random misfires.
Upon reviewing my work thus far (02 sensor, Cylinder 4 Ignition Coil + spark plug replacements), it turns out simply the O2 sensor wire connector wasn't snapped completely closed. Once I got the clamp closed and the connection snug, all the misfire issues were eliminated and engine performance returned to optimal - no misfires and the dashboard gauge turned off. great video.
I am unsure if the coils that I have bought (which I bought from Canadian tire..I live in canada btw it's an auto-home store) are even doing their job properly? for each coil was about $100 each and I had to get 4 obviously for my nissan. when you changed the mass air flow sensor did you also replace the insulator piece. it is a dealer item only.
my nissan has 283000 miles on it.
mine is a 2000 maxima
Fred KREMER what is the insulator? I just bought it and replaced it, cleared the codes and drove it for a day but didn’t Change anything.
It’s all good though I ended up going to a dealership and getting a new vehicle :)
sorry it didnt help your car. those cars have problem with air leaks. causing what seems like major issues. my air intake duct was also split.good luck with your new car. did you get another nissan/?

faith jones ... how did you fix yours. ? I'm going to try Sea Foam & oil change . But Auto Zone , said the code was my 3rd cylinder misfire .
mines did the samething but I changed out my fuel injections and it stopped but change out the fuel injection wiring harness. your problems should be fixed.
I have a 2009 Nissan Murano and the code is 0300 which means random misfire how do I find out which one it is ??!! Help and thank you
P0300 means random misfire, but P0316 means random misfire in first 1000 revolutions first few minutes.
Glad it was helpful!
There are dozens of reasons why your car will trigger that code. What makes you think thats the way to fix it? Your coil packs could be brand new but your car can throw that code for another reason

I hope that explains your question.
He troubleshooted the problem exactly the way it should have been done: He tested the faulty part in each cylinder and got the same error code each time the part was moved to a different cylinder. Since the part was the only variable, it was the part that was faulty. Great video and done professionally and scientifically!
Thanks!
Why u so sensitive lol?
I agree.
Everyone, please let's respect each other!
great video, great explanation.you saved me a lot of money & headaches by not having to go to a mechanic for my 2005 sentra. had a code P0304.thank you very much!!

I'm glad to hear that, thank you for sharing!
This is the best diy video I’ve seen thank you for sharing your experiences 😊😊😊
Nice neat repair. New respect for the Nissan Altima engine layout. A little education. A few hand tools. And the repair can be done as a DIY project at home.
Yeah, this one is pretty easy to work on.
Thanks for the quick and informative video. This gave me a pretty good idea on how to procede with my Nissan 2006 with P0301 that I just got yesterday. Again, thank you for your time on putting this video together and sharring,
👍🏼
Thank you so much for this video. Different make and model but it helped me pinpoint the problem in my truck. I appreciate how thorough and concise you are. And the video is awesome quality. You rock!
thank you , I fixed my car following this video.
That's awesome!
Good job dude. Found this vid from the Nissan club forum
Very good video. Excellent instructions.
Thanks!
I like how your videos are simple & easy to undestand Thank You

Thank you! I always try to keep them that way.
excellent excellent video! I'll replace em soon
Cheers!

Awesome, thanks for sharing!
shrugs, that's a distributor system with a cap/rotor/ wire set... i got a 2002 quest with the same engine. so check the cap/rotor as well or change them all as preventative maintenance. my cap was cracked a while back and did a p0300
YOU ARE THE GREATEST MY BROTHER
thanks a lot... followed your instructions and the problem was fixed !!
Awesome!
Very good video. Clear, concise, well organized. I want to see more videos from you and I don't own a nissan. I am subscribing.
Thanks! 😁
Good video clear instructions, it is a good idea to always test the suspected components before just replacing
very helpful video. short and simple
Nice video, I wish my Cad SRX was that easy, I have to take 1/2 the enging apart!
Got this code a few minutes ago and I’m gonna try to brace the cold weather to see if I can repair it.
Good luck!
Good video. Very good explanation and instruction.
Great video very educational and easy to understand. What if you replace a coil pack with one that you know is good and the cylinder is still misfiring? Any assistance id appreciate. Thanks
Try the same thing with spark plug. If still the same, check compression in that cylinder.
Great video. I have p0302, 03 Nissan sentra, I'll follow this procedure! Thank you!
