I am 77 now. I spent many hours in all three seats of that wonderful aircraft. I trusted it completely. It’s a shame watching the Bean counters ruin a great engineering company. Boeing is just getting worse and it’s a shame. Their newest CEO is a doubling down on the errors they have made for the past eight years.
I work for a company that was founded and ran by engineers the first 30 years of its life. The founders sold it off to investment bankers who have installed “ managers” and accountants to run the company now. I’ll leave it to your imagination how it’s doing now. When a company is managed by accountants and lawyers, you know what to expect.
Well said! I never flew 727s but had the honor of being an AWACS flight engineer for 3 years…old school Boeing were amazing machines built by engineers for airmen.
The 727 took the place of the DC-3 in terms of longevity and reliability during the jet age. I don’t love flying, but always felt safe and secure on the 727.
What a really great video - Many Thanks for making this and had no idea Kalitta had been phasing them out quite yet - but no surprise. As a pilot and collector of all things airliners, I Loved the 72 so much I acquired the fwd Fuse just ahead of the wing of N777KY a Boeing 727-2B6 which was the team jet of the former NBA New Orleans Hornets and previous to Hornets Group it flew for the Seattle Supersonics and started out her flying career with Royal Air Maroc in 1975. She is getting converted to a Flight Sim and will continue flying - virtually at least, and preserved for the benefit of Aviation and Sports history for us avgeeks in the form of the Legendary Boeing 727. Plus it's just really freaking cool!
I was 727 mechanic in Aerolíneas Argentinas and after I was Flight Engineer for that beautiful trijet. I love B727, it was an amazing and beautiful airplane. I remember the operation in LaPaz , Bolivia at 13300 feet. God memories .
There are dozens of old 727's at major airports around the country being used as CFR trainers and at maintenance schools as practice airframes. They aren't going away any time soon.
@american101 Although I dont know what their plan for them is, when they retired their 3 DC-9s, they sat stored in OSC for years before Aeronaves TSM bought and ferried them to Mexico. I am sure if there is a chance they think they can sell them and get more then scrap they will hold on to them.
@@SpectrumRob yeah that’s exactly where we want an archaic difficult to maintain and fly airplane to go in countries with subpar maintenance and pilot training🤦🏻♂️
Many of the 7274's operated in the BAX Globoal system flying scheduled cargo flights. Sad to see the 727 go to the bone yard,. They were good, dependable cargo birds
Jim Steffy.. i remember working with you in the FWA days at the HUB there, loading 707's , DC8's, 727's and even a few DC3's on rare times. I'm still going with the same company 38 years later, however a few name changes. I hate seeing these birds retiring as they have a ton of memories for me.
A sad day to see another 727 being retired. It is inevitable, but I love the looks of the airplane, thanks for the video and the information about remaining 727's in the area. I also saw in the video as the 727 taxied out the old Learjet I used to work on can be seen in the background that we sold to Kalitta a couple years ago. Keep up the good work, like the video
I remember when the first 727 Jets flew into Buffalo Airport. I was thrilled to watch them land and take off. We lived fairly close to the airport so my mom and dad didn't get upset if I would walk over to the airport and just hang out. Once I asked the stewardess when they came up from the tarmac if I might be able to take a tour of the 727. She happily obliged me and let me down and I got to walk up those rear steps and then visit the cockpit I was thrilled I think I was like I don't even remember how old I was I could have been 11 or 12. I'll never forget that day and how much fun I had I just wish I could remember how old I was at the time I'm 70 now. And I too think it is a most beautiful jet !!
As a kid growing up in the 70s I flew on a lot of 727's up and down California, I can remember boarding/de-boarding the rear stairwell too, so very cool as a kid!
The last time I flew on a 727 was with delta airlines. That night was rainy with lightning and thunder. That 727 plowed though it strong turbulence and handled well. Very very nice. Please keep coming iut with more vlogs!!
My first commercial flight in 1968 was in a TWA 727 and then an Eastern 727 in 1970. The "Whisper Jet" was a great plane with fantastic climb abilities!
I was only 12 years old, my first ride in a jet. A Braniff 727 taking off from Wichita Kansas. The Captain said on the P.A.- Let's do some flying! That was 48 years ago.
Stationed Ft Carson, CO in the 70s and whenever I flew home to NJ it was more often than not on a 727. Beautiful flights and when we were treated as paying customers and not an inconvenience.
We occasionally got to load and unload them at ups during our peak season. A lot of us were around during the ups 727 days, and it brought some nostalgia back for a lot of us. Sad day to see another 727 retire
In 1992-1994 I was a ramp agent at AUS. We were contracted by TWA near it's end and coming out of bankruptcy. They flew MD-80's and 727s into AUS. One day a flight landed for a turnaround and as usual we waited for all passengers to come off so we could service the aircraft and when I stepped inside this particular 727 something felt off. It felt richer and more luxurious, the fabric and everything else was different. By now I already knew where to look for the plate that stated when the plane was made ETC and this one was made in 1967!!! However, it felt like it wasn't used or updated inside!! While we serviced the interior I thought the windows looked smaller! I waited for it to return to AUS but it never did while I was employed there. I felt that maybe because it was nearing the end of TWA, this one had to be brought out and flown around.
I agree. That was my favorite airplane to fly. Every year we flew from Laguardia to Florida ( various cities) on what was Eastern Airlines back den. Fantastic ride. Plus you always got a meal, breakfast ,lunch or dinner.
In Oscoda on F41,, they now park alot of the old planes in the old "pinetree" parking area once used for B52s on alert right next to the road.. a few Kalitta 727s even. sad
Wow, had no idea they only had a few of these. We had one land at our airport two years ago randomly and I had to unload it with a forklift. First time I had ever saw or worked a 727. Wish I remembered the tail number
I worked the ramp for Ontario Aircraft Service/OAS at the Ontario airport in Southern California back in the late 80's into the early 90's, on many occasions working with the Kalitta 727 known as "Connie One" that was flying the race horses from California to Kentucky for the Kentucky Derby.

😥 I'm glad I stayed up late last year one night and drove to KROC when Kalitta was still sending these horses there on the CVG-ROC-CVG and BDL-ROC-CVG runs. I got a video of the departure and man they used every inch of runway for it. Within a couple months though, iAero took over the route and the DHL but now Kalitta has it back since iAero went under. 3 Engines = more jet fuel, also the 727 requires 3 flight crew members to fly it, whereas the 737 only 2 flight crew so overall a lot less cost to operate a 737. This is why the 727 was dumped so fast by private passenger and VIP charter owners years ago and the cost to buy a used 727 was so low these freight operators got them for a good deal.
My favorite plane … wow over 40 years old cannot say any of the new stuff will ever make it anywhere near this age. There are videos of A380s already getting scrapped.

Still sad I never got to see this, they had these flying to my home city of Rochester daily for months. I never got to see it due to school, and then they switched it out to iAero for DHL in my city, so these were never gonna come back. Now of course, the week that iAero ceases operations and Kalitta returns to Rochester, is the same week that Kalitta gets rid of these
Feeling kinda sad, but time flies on. I started spotting at ONT bc of the Kalitta 727s. I had hope they return after moving their destination to not too far SBD one Christmas before covid, I believe. They often hauled horses outta ONT and it was nicknamed Air Horse One. Well, we still got Raytheon's 727 in a hangar that goes on some kinda secret testing flight unannounced about once a week. The 727 has been my favorite since the late 60s when I used to think planes rolled from one city to the other, but, what happened was, my mom would walk me to my seat on a plane. I'd fall asleep while taxiing for takeoff & wake up while taxiing after landing. #bluelights #PSA🔴👁 ...😂
The 727 was an excellent plane for its time, but its higher fuel consumption and high noise levels is making them obsolete. I expect replacement with the 737-700 and 737-800 freighter conversions starting now.
I was surprised to learn that there are still a number of 727’s operating regularly in the US. I thought the US noise regulations had driven All of remaining 727s in service off shore. I also thought the 3 man vs 2 man flight crew and higher fuel consumption made the planes difficult financially to operate than other airplane models.
Yeah it may take me a ton of takes to record but I refuse to be one of the channels narrated by Microsoft Sam who just uses content they stole from other people
If I was blind folded and sitting in a 727s captains seat and you called out an indicator lever or switch I could put my hand on it… just saying. 46 year retired freight dawg…😮
A true JET. These birds sounded like rockets on take off! 😊 until the newer hush kits and fan jets came about, sounding like a blender with a broken motor or a prop plane.
KII stored their DC9s in OSC for years until they were bought by Aeronaves TSM. If there is a chance they can sell them for more then scrap value they will.
Sexiest commercial jet ever made, she was loud and smoked -not how I like my women-but I love this one. Sad day to give up yet another 727 especially to a 737. She's BEAUTIFUL BANKING LEFT

Never flew on a 727 but I was happy when the MD88 was retired. Like spotting both of them them but wouldn't want to be stuck in the rear of either of them.

They have "hush kits"
Where can i get a flight on a 727!?!
1988
Would you consider the Tu-154 instead? Then the glorious Air Koryo would be your choice.
I am pretty sure Safe Air Co in Kenya is looking for a new 727...
It's a shame to see the 727s go, even if it's understandable. I have a 1:400 scale diecast model of N726CK
Yup, I will miss spotting them.
0:55 - I think you meant '777' and not '737'.
According to their website - Kalitta only operates 777s and 747s.
☮
No, I meant 737. The difference between the 3 airlines as well as their fleets are explained further in the video.
Good stuff
Thanks
Thanks for the info. A lot of so called aviation channels are using TTS AI voices and it's horrible.
Connie sold that to buy more race car parts!! LOL
My uncle helped build every one of those 727s.
Goodbye little hot rod jet
🥲🍻
I saw one fly out of Oakland, noisey Bird
Probably IFL
There were a lot of big words in this video! What the heck does a “nail in a 727 coffin”?
Straw that broke the camels back
Send it back to Boeing, so they can seewhat quality built aircraft looks like
It has the FedEx hushkits installed!
Sell it to a museum and paint it in a PanAm livery !!!
Off to Aerosucre!
KII stored their DC9s in OSC for years until they were bought by Aeronaves TSM. If there is a chance they can sell them for more then scrap value they will.
Think sad 😭
NOOOOOO😭
Word !
Sexiest commercial jet ever made, she was loud and smoked -not how I like my women-but I love this one. Sad day to give up yet another 727 especially to a 737.
She's BEAUTIFUL BANKING LEFT
Nooo!
RIP
5g upgrad?
There was a directive issued by the FAA that aircraft must have certain systems installed or upgraded due to the interference from 5G cell towers
Lotta 7's in the narration. (-;))
Probably be snatched up by Aerosucre 😊

Was never a fan of the 727 or the MD-80... but, I'm just weird...
Never flew on a 727 but I was happy when the MD88 was retired. Like spotting both of them them but wouldn't want to be stuck in the rear of either of them.
Who else see the beastie boys cigarette tail?
