    That's not an airport. It's a living museum. 26:24 - Kalitta Charters II / Boeing 727 No visible reversers. Great upload.

      Won't see clamshell style reversers on the 727. Unless way back in the day on some earlier models. The -100 series. And the re engined 100 models with Spey engines. Also the 200 series with re engined models.

    When passenger/freight planes were interesting and made noise! From the stellar 727-eye candy to the homely 737-flying sausage, so great to watch these old birds in action.

    The DC-8 is N865F my uncle was a Flight engineer on it for Murray Air, I have many hours as a young man working on it with him and my other uncle and grandfather. I’ve taxied it many times. My love for that airplane will never stop

      I remember N865F being a regular visitor to Manchester (MAN/EGCC) back in the Emery days. Really miss those Dc8's

      I have many hundreds of hours flying N865F when I was with Rosenbalm (Rosie)… Great learning experience with a lot of great, fun flight and mtx crews! I’d LOVE to fly ol 865 again!!’

      @@joer5571 Great memories there, I used to look forward to seeing those JT3 powered aircraft at Manchester, looked stunning. Remember the 'Rosie' callsign well and those heavy departures on a Sunday morning!

    This video sure jogged a few memories for me. I instructed at YIP before I started a career as a controller at Willow Run back in the late 60s.

    Super cool footage, that looks like a really interesting airport for spotting. Love seeing these classics still going strong, the 727's, Falcon 20's and the MD-83 are a real treat to see!

    Unfortunately, the last Kalitta 727 was retired five days ago. Only USA Jet tails remaining at YIP

    I think you got the Kalitte 727 in its last week flying! I just heard they retired it around April 5, 2024. Very cool you got to see it in action! Thanks for going out and recording it!

    Willow Run is a great airport for spotting classic jets. DC-8 of Samaritan’s Purse, USA Jet DC-9s and now MD-88s, Kalitta Charters Falcon 20s, Aeronaves 🇲🇽 737-400 & other 737 classics and a few DC-9s, a 737-200! WOAH THAT’S a RARE FIND! Kalitta Charters Learjet 35A WHAT A LOOKER! MY FAV BY FAR WHAT A CLASSIC DESIGN & LOVELY BLACK NOSE SPOT! 🤣

    Re the description, no B-25s or B-29s were built there. It was the largest of several production sites for the Consolidated B-24 Liberator heavy bomber. Around half of the roughly 18,500 B-24s were built there under license by Ford during WW2. The B-24 remains the most-produced multi-engine aircraft and the most-produced U.S. military aircraft.

    Great video Mark ! So many very rare birds. Love those early Boeings - a 727 with winglets, how cool is that ?!? And they lowered the rear air stairs, wow as if you asked them to.

    I’m sure many of those MD-80’s painted on the new USJet livery were ex Delta Airlines

      N832US, N833US and N842US were indeed Delta birds. All three were retired in 2020 so they must of been snapped up quickly by USA Jet. I worked N842US in YVR back in February. Was nice to see and work a Mad Dog again.

    Some great catches there. It's sad that it is down to only one operational runway, they still had three just a few years ago. Then a self driving car proving ground was built on the west property, the location of the old bomber plant.

    Sweet video! Thanks for sharing with us! I'd love to go out there to watch planes sometime. Is there a better time to go? Also, where do you recommend I go? I live literally 2 minutes from the airport- but I've never gone to spot because I don't know where I'm allowed to park and sit and just watch the planes. Again, thanks for the awesome video! Love seeing those old DL 88's have a new life! ( I work for DL... haha)

    That USA jet 727 and many others come to my hometown in Smyrna, TN frequently from Laredo, TX and then up to Michigan. I've always been curious what they're transporting.

    Detroit(YIP)
    El Paso(ELP)
    McAllen(MFE)
    Miami(MIA)
    Cincinnati(CVG)

      Hello. The airport is quite spotter friendly. You might be approached by security like I was but as long as you explain what you’re doing they honestly don’t mind! It seems like the airport understands a lot of spotters are there to catch these classics.

      You can see GA traffic anywhere and the video was most likely filmed during the wonder when there wasn’t much Yankee stuff going on. Different strokes for different folks.
