This is an incredible piece. The interplay of Ray's piano, the ethereal organ and the piercing commentary of the guitar is quite a conversation. "Oh give me train South..." and the piano runs that become the train - wow! And the the funereal organ coming in when he mentions his body - what a blend of music and lyrics!
Thank you for posting this! My mother used to play the album this song was on to death. Matter of fact she used to rock my baby sister to sleep to either this song or Crying Time and my sister would fall asleep everytime with the swaying rhythm of the song. Ray sings this song like he had first hand experience with the lyrics. Straight gospel melody with blues lyrics. I love Aretha's version too, but Ray brings raw emotion that tears at your heart. Pure genius!
At the hardest time of my life I played this over and over. Pleae write my mama and tell her the shape I am in. Don't send me no doctor a doctor cann't do me no good. It was all my fault.
"it was all my fault" .. i constantly want to blame everyone for stuff that happens to me .. but only when i take responsibility for my faults i find the strenght to get back on track
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been looking for this version for years, years!!! It's the best. What does Tina sing, "Simply The Best". Well this is it. GStrongRAW, my thanks.
Ray Charles version of any song is better than anyone else.
this overlooked piece is one of Ray Charles's greatest recordings and one of the greatest performances of the blues of all time
