A blues classic done to perfection. Written and recorded by St Louis Jimmy Oden in 1941 and made famous by Howlin Wolf 20 years later. Absolutely sublime.

I am 52 and for some reason I never go into The Allman Brothers. I grew up during the hair band days of Motley Cruel, Sabbath of course, Van Halen, etc. I never dug the Southern Rock or Blues but then I grew up. Lately within the last 8 months or so I can't get enough of this band and Derek Trucks who is a guitar god in my opinion as is Duane. This tune I am listening to now is physically making me feel like music should. I think I actually stopped breathing for a few minutes as Duane started getting into it. I also like taking my guitar and coresidan bottle and play along. This particular song is so fun to play with a slide in open E. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. My ass you can't. I have learned how to play a lot of these licks and for me the Allman Brothers are like a new band to me since I never listened to them in the 80's or 90's when I was in highschool and college. This band moves me. The triumphs and horrible tragedies this band has faced but still moved on. The Allman Brothers Band are truly one of the greatest bands that Rock n Roll, blues, jazz, and country have ever heard. I can't get enough of them.

One of Duane's very best. He pulls so many tricks out of his bag of licks on this one. Other than his obvious vituosity on the guitar, sometimes underappreciated is the tastiness of it all. Never overplays, seems to always add the perfect phrase at the perfect moment. Check the tiny lick at 7:06 ...the water drip lick. Sounds just like a slow drip of water finally releasing itself into a drop. Gorgeous and difficult to do with that kind of amazing clarity.

Awesome I am going to see the trio this fall. Eat at H&H, see the big house and Capricorn and 2 crash sites. I have loved them since a young child with uncles listening to all their albums constantly. Remember Fillmore being played back to back over and over till Grandma went nuts and yelled at them. Still can not believe he was only 24, what extreme talent and soul for the time.

@@becsailor1822 for me, that's part of what makes him the best guitar player that ever lived. He was that good & that accomplished at only 24 years old. Only played for about 10 years from what I understand.
Imagine how good he'd have gotten had he lived past 24 yrs old. There would be no discussion about whether or not he's the best. It'd be a fact that could not be denied by anyone.

I do like me some Duane. I had tickets to see the original Allman Brothers Band in 1971 in Kentucky and Duane had his accident and of course died. They postponed and came back so I saw the lineup with just the five of them. Berry Oakley died not long after the gig I saw. Next saw 'em 1975 in South Carolina and Dickey Betts was still the sole guitar man and he took that entire concert, put it on his back, and carried it to high Heaven. It was impressive, he really rose to the occasion. I would have sold my soul to have seen him and Duane onstage together and sold my soul twice to get a good seat to view it even mo' better.

There's something about a good blues performance that hits you deep.
Great that you mentioned Howlin Wolf. One of my favorite of his tracks was Red Rooster False Start & Dialogue off the London Sessions. Telling Clapton and Charlie Watts and the boys how it's done saying stuff like, "Ok let's everybody get together now & we'll try to make it" and "always stop at the top, see?" Great stuff.
    Duane Allman RIP.

The tone Duane gets from his '59 cherry burst LP and cherry SG is just one of many reasons old rich men are willing to spend upwards of 200k for clean original instruments of that vintage. That is insane.

I'm WAY BLESSED!! to be a chronic, adamant, Allman Brothers follower, with JJ Cale bringing up the rear, and I must mention Dicky Betts, (Duane said it himself, Dicky was as good as he was.) I will also throw in Henry Vestine and the awsome guitar players from Canned Heat. I will also add, I'm from Memphis, Tn., I also thank Sam Phillips and Sun Records, without Sam, rock and roll would not be what it is.
