  • On this episode of On Purpose, I sat down with Anna Akana. Anna is an American actress, filmmaker, musician, author, and comedian. She is most known for her massive presence on RUclips.
Anna’s experience losing her 13-year-old sister to suicide when she 17 taught her that ultimately age is a gift that comes with wisdom. She's de-stigmatizing the way we feel about mental health issues & reminding us that we are not alone and your voice matters to at-least one person.

This is my favorite episode! Thank you Jay for inviting Anna Akana. I've been following her for over a year now and she's like my online therapist. Learned so many things about her in this video that I didn't learn from any other sources. When she mentioned habit tracking, morning pages, and bullet journaling, I felt so happy. 😅

Jay, I saw you live at Traffic and Conversion Summit in San Diego earlier this year. My team and I regularly use your content creation ideas across my main company where we help people start businesses online and get out the corporate rat race. Massively appreciate you bud, you helped us create a lot of impact in a lot of lives. Anyone else also get massive value out of what the man, the myth, the legend Mr Jay Shetty teaches? 👏🏻

Hello Jay thankyou for talking to Anna her story about losing her sister touched my heart iam 23 almost 24. And I went through two years of domestic violence from my father and I got diagnosed with masked depressed and and I was put on suicide watch in my own home. Then one night my father and his wife came into my bedroom with a kitchen knife and said here you go if you wanna kill yourself they just stood here laughing at me. Cause they were angry that I didn't end up taking my life Music saved my life. I had a friend that gave me hope and I held on cause I wanted to see her the next day. Now i am a singer songwriter I write my own lyrics and I use what I went through as a way to see it could always be worse

Hello Jay, I am gratefull that I learnt so many things from you. And I would like to say one thing that you always send people message like don't worry how many followers you have on RUclips and other social media networks, just do what you do best. But you sometimes introduce someone with the number of followers they have which I feel is not good. Please don't do that.

I couldn’t leave the comment on Spotify where I listened this podcast. But did you actually put an advert after talking about teens’ suicide, how Anna felt after her sister’s death saying : “I believe AFTER HEARING THIS you know exactly what present to get for all the males in your family. A cologne” ????? Seriously Jay? You do talk about a lot of good stuff but that was shockingly insensitive. Your team went so wrong this time caring only about putting the advert in :((

Hi Jay, wondering if you could offer either a link to a video that explains how someone could work on not thinking about"getting over" another person. I am trying to push myself to have my own best interest at heart. I have always given but never taken. I want to invest in my self and make the goals that were always a dream and love my self enough to be a little selfish. I realized there was something seriously wrong when I tried and almost succeeded in hanging my self last wkend. I cut the circulation off to my head and the feeling of light headedness terrified me and I stopped myself. Starting my own e commerce business and turning it into a brand has been my dream and I have invested thousands into other people to teach me just to convince my self I'm not smart enough, I could never be successful, ECT ECT. I want to feel worth in my life..to MYSELF. How can one truly stop, and just focus on self love and commitment to one self. I'm 33 yrs old and have nothing to show for the life I have. I've tried the speak kindness to yourself in the mirror or right down all my goals and tell my self over and over how happy I am to be that which I want...it never changes what I have and where I go each day and eventually stop believing it's possible.

21:30 imo (realizing im prolly just terribly cynical) she put a positive spin on 50 yr old living with 45 yrs of mom's suicide. Which is good actually. Whatever his experience or his intention for listeners, what's more important is how they are going to take it in and translate it and then apply it. For her, there is no timeline or guilt. unfortunately I can imagine for him as the five-year-old its more of an attachment trauma and he's referring to the fact that his trauma is not in fact healed by time and he's still the wounded child, cuz he still says "why did she leave me" and that indicates he hasn't grown out of a five year old mentality. She didn't leave him, she left her own life, despite him maybe because of him but I don't think so. Bottom line it is 100% about depression; it is not about anybody else not even the victim. It is a terrible seemingly contagious and often-fatal disease.

I always thought of bisexuality as being attracted to a person for who they are regardless of their sex and being open to having a relationship based on connection rather than sex. Definitely not a 50/50 situation of male vs female. THAT seems weirdly contrived.
