I did not know this song, until Robert Smith named it one of the 30 best pop songs of the 80s and now I do not stop listening to it. Terry and Robert are very similar both in voice and in singing gestures.
This song was written by James "Trummy" Young who played Jazz trombone. He also was apart of Louis Armstrong's all stars. This song was written in the 1930s.
The early Bananarama years are so vastly different to the glossy, glamorous and slick PWL productions that started with their "True Confessions" album. Their early stuff is very gritty and punk-ish (?). But still amazing to listen to.
Yeah the early stuff is great. The Stock Aiken and Waterman stuff is too glossy and shiny. All Stock Aiken and Waterman stuff is soulless muck, no matter who they produced.
I love the first 20(ish) seconds where I'm watching a school disco as the girls look at each other for support before venturing onto the dance floor... some boys do join in (to a greater or lesser extent) but there's always someone too geeky/cool to dance.
That's so perceptive. Think it was part of the charm of bananarama. They were like school kids at a school disco. Someone once described their singing style as like "how the girls at the back of the bus used to sing on school trips"
Yes creation and imagination was the start and end of classy videos any act realised in the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s
Reminds me of my vacations during my youth to the British Virgin Islands and begging my parents to buy me the British music magazines on the stands because FBT were on the cover.
2duets together amazing talent both groups like Chrissie Hyde and UB40 or Elton John and Kiki Dee maybe a few others. The Bananas in their matching outfits and Fun Boy Three who are classy with Terry his swag look and vocals in their short time they were as a massive excellent group
Its hard to work out why Bananarama were so great! They are nice looking, but don't stop the traffic, they can dance, but nothing fantastic, they singing is Ok, but no more, they did uninspiring covers of second rate songs but the whole package is amazing. Don't understand it.
What a tune The world won’t be the same without you Terry Hall
I LOVED this Era of these two groups!
Terry Hall and his musical innovations - simply brilliant.
Rest in Peace Terry :(
Which one died? Nobody lives anymore. Even Fun Boys are dropping like Ramones. That was a good version of this song.
How about that version of "Shake so Much". That was kind of good
@@snakewhitcher4189 Terry Hall, the lad in the red and white striped trousers
I could just feel like dancing around with some little children with this song having a laugh
Over and over again until we all have had enough xxxxxx
Terry has great hair!

It's actually a very old song from the 1930s, and has been recorded by all kinds of jazz legends from that era, like Ella Fitzgerald
Its not what aint it do
So we’re not mentioning the hair?
R.i.p Terry Hall❤️
Still missing you & your creativity Terry 💔🕊 Rest in Power.
Fun boy three pushed Bananarama into the stratosphere.
Terry Halls is like a son between Robert Smith and Morrissey! lol
You’re right..
No I don't agree Terry is too good looking
Except he was famous for doing this before both of them.
I like this song, it is a nice cover.
I loved this song and combo group. Any combo with Terry Hall
1982 when I used to buy records, play them and enjoy.
This is the most I've seen Terry smile.
RIP Terry Hall 😞😞😞xxx

💯💯👏👏 SAW produced the musical equivalent of junk food, imho. Formulaic and soulless.
Always loved just how animated Lynval always is in all of his performances
Just like Terry 🤣

He’s probably that friend that kept Terry going with his energy and joy.
My sister introduced me to the original version by Ella Fitzgerald. Great song.
Nice. Never heard this song, but people compare the song Macarena to this song. I love 80s music, being born in the early 80s.
Sad day for music Terry was amazing back in the 80th so many top ten records ..the world has lost a real legend 🙏💔
Lol! Terry pushed one of the Bananas, and one of the guys stepped on Terry's foot!
😂😂😂
I roared.
1:48 I love the part when Fun Boy Three joined in.
they look really fed-up
Strange song. Turned on to this by a gothic beauty in Chicago 🎉
The Fun Boys dance so cute, totally adorable and lovely Bananarama high school girls.
utube is like a time machine. Thanks uploader!

@@zeddeka It was Stuart Maconie who said that I think. Couldn’t have described their sound any better!
Pop perfection!
I remember seeing the video on Mtv in the early 80's & was hypnotized!!!🌵🍗Happy Thanksgiving Everybody 🍗🌵
That stutter step they do in the video is permanently burned into my memory from MTV, when they would show Halloween videos.
It's like a take on Whole Lotta Love with Los Del Rio then adding a bit of flamenco and reggae,
😍😍😍
Love it 😃😃😃😃😃😃
arh dam! Terry Hall's vocals kicking in on the 3rd verse! wow.. Terry was one cool dude... (I think Robert smith copied his hair) lol
He copied his entire life, at the beginning when Terry had it short, Robert also left it short, he copied everything, even the eyeliner.
Terry Hall at his best!
...it ain't what you do, it's the place that you do it... aye Macarena (aahriee)!
They definitely robbed them of this. Macarena is this song.
RIP Terry
Simply brillant
Shiftyy ❤
1:20, Terry smiled
The simplicity is the genius.
🤔👏great Rhythm 🥁 like the song 🎶 love my ex singing Karen woodward
Robert Smith? That you?😁😆
Wicked.
Better days pop is cool!
Has anyone seen them do this song on any recent gigs?? They would really ham it now.. would be funny to see them do it...
They did it as the encore on the 2017 reunion tour with Siobhan - there's loads of videos of it online.
happy nappy bday sio ;-)
This video is the best!
Yes creation and imagination was the start and end of classy videos any act realised in the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s

BURNER 🔥🖤
WHAT A HOT MESS ahhhhhhh gotta love the 80s !!
Put this on 1.25 speed and you have the Macarena!
Wicked tune 😍💖💖💖🇯🇲
bananarama looking hot in any video
There were only two people that caught my attention in this clip : Terry and Siobhan. Lovit !!
Rip
Terry Hall with his Robert Smith look (but Terry was first!)
JustNiek Iove you
Terry definitely has an eye for the angel of death.
Dale a tu cuerpo alegría, Macarena...eeehh Macarena!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Nice playback :D
Love this song. Wish the lighting and camera work was better there.
I like terry hall pants 👖 I will I could get some like that they are so cool 😎
Terry hall is gorge
Rip Terry Hall ):
My history teacher literally played this song for the class and at lunch detention
thats fucking GREAT lol
Good Teacher.
Quirky but popular.
Fun boy doesn't look like he's having much fun.
I love this, like watching a fun, first rehearsal...awesomeness!!!
Prescient 🙂
I used to love this song but forgot it and remembered it agian thanks to a window advert
Reminds me of my vacations during my youth to the British Virgin Islands and begging my parents to buy me the British music magazines on the stands because FBT were on the cover.
Did the silver spoon choke you ?
Macarena!
Volanne its a knock off version of the macarena
No, it was the real inspiration! Partying and drunken British louts inspired Los Del Rio. Ibiza is in Spain, obvious innit?
The lead signe the boy r is on cokain 😮
Your spelling is on cocaine :)
Played on the radio in memory of me ☺️😂😂☺️😂
Heeey Macarena! 🤣
This song is was released in 1982, 10 years before Macarena (1992)
There's just the one guy who's not dancing
Hes the best one
eeeeeee Macarena!
Yes, that's what someone said on the Songfacts website. I love 80s music, being an 80s baby, but I never heard this Bananarama cover song or original.
He sounds so similar to Robert Smith from "The Cure" i kinda thought it was him...sad he died a few weeks ago from cancer
2duets together amazing talent both groups like Chrissie Hyde and UB40 or Elton John and Kiki Dee maybe a few others. The Bananas in their matching outfits and Fun Boy Three who are classy with Terry his swag look and vocals in their short time they were as a massive excellent group

Bertrand Leclercq IS MY VERGA YOUR LOVER?
The white guy could take it or leave it
I love Bananarama and MrPoopface
Check out Ella Fitzgerald's version.
I love Terry Hall but he does look like Frankie Howerd here....
Monday haircut if I remember correctly.. ;)

I wonder if they look back and think... 'maybe the choreography could have been a little better' 😂
With his 3+ bands of genius music production, Terry Hall was like the George Clinton of 80's pop.
😓😍😎😁😇🤗❤❤✌🤘😉
wait so no one is going to talk about the original
Jimmy Lunciford!
Me lo parece a mi, o van con el pijama puesto?
Wasn't it great? Everybody thin, great hair, wore what we wanted and wore Borghese purple blush that was iridescent
Seems pretty obvious where Macarena came from.
