I’d agree with that sentiment only I think most generations think their era of music was the best. It’s only now that popular music is failing its youth or the youth of the times. I’ve been told by at least one old work friend in his twenties that current pop music is rubbish so I think it’s technically true . We’re running out of music and music as a medium is on life support right now and at risk of going critical!
@@U2QuoZepplin We're running out of music! what?! I agree that most mainstream music today is pretty bad but there are a lot of artists out there still pushing boundaries, you just gotta stumble upon them
Bananarama were never a part of Fun Boy Three, FBT were only Terry Hall, Neville Staple and Lynval Golding. The boys would later sing on the Nana's single Really Saying Something.
@@Hellwyck June Miles-Kingston was pretty important to FBT too. They also had a group of other musicians, including Caroline Lavelle on Cello, who were great. Terry Hall's brilliance, IMO, was in composing by mashing up different styles and unexpected instrumentation. BTW: This particular song was first (I think) recorded in the mid 1930s on Jimmie Lunceford's album "Sleepy Time Gal"... which explains the a lot of this video ;)
It's amazing to see how Bananarama evolved from gritty, grimy, punk styled music like this, to much more sleek, glamorous and catchy pop music courtesy of Stock-Aitken-Waterman. All their eras are fantastic.
This left an indelible impression on me as a nine-year old, sitting in my grandmother's living room watching MTV in 1982. I loved their hair and fashion sense. Later on, during my twenties, I looked like a combination of Terry Hall and Siobhan Fahey.
Finally someone mentions Top of the Pops! I loved that show. I'm from NY but was stationed in the RAF in the early 80's, always looked forward to Top of the Pops and still remember all these songs, and randomly burst out singing lines from them and people think I'm nuts, but those were some great times!
I feel your pain. Too much death all at once. It's the worst. We'll join them again. Can't wait. Imagine the music all the legends are playing up there. That's epic my friend.
I'm so a lucky b*st*rd to have been a young child back in the 80's 😉; what a wonderful and (musically) innovating yet authentic era that was! Simply have to ❤ it!
Also a teen+ in the 80's but I have to chuckle at the "yet authentic" comment. This song was a hit by Jimmy Lunceford in 1939 - ruclips.net/video/1SkoD2CIakQ/видео.html. I heard it on the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel one night and it really caught my ear. Funboy 3 covered other songs including Summertime. And of course Bananarama's biggest hit (Venus) was also a cover, Soft Cell's Tainted Love, and the list goes on. Entertaining, but not original.
Great cover version of the Trummy Young/Sy Oliver composition. I love Terry Hall's Rap on the song! I bought this Single on a 12" Single British Import back in '82! Unbeknownst to my girlfriend, I had a mad crush on Siobhan Fahey! She's gorgeous!
Loved Bananarama! So cool - I wanted to go out and get drunk with them but they were 10 years older and I lived in the boring suburbs not buzzing London.
Written by jazz musicians Melvin "Sy" Oliver and James "Trummy" Young. It was first recorded in 1939 by Jimmie Lunceford, Harry James, and Ella Fitzgerald.
Actually I’d argue that the hair styles are fine! Certainly Siobhan and Susan ‘s hair is fine. Maybe Keren’s hair wanted to grow out a bit , but it was the early 80’s and punk styles and sticking it to “the man,” was what it was all about. I feel as though a lot of that attitude is coming back . And I’d be quite happy if more of the styles and trends from the 80’s made a comeback too! There’s a lot we need to fight back against! So a bit of 1980’s style punk rebelliousness would go down a treat right now!
FB3 *Brilliant!* _RIP Terry Hall..._ Great fun track with awesome percussion and vibe! 🍌And Bananarama get into the Top 10 for the first time! _My they hammer that chorus in, don't they!_ 😸🍌🍌🍌
I heard this song a few days ago on Sirius Radio and it stuck to me...never heard it before and I'm an 80's child! Didn't know who sang it, only knew a couple words and all I mainly had was the tune stuck in my head. I've looked up songs that sound like the Macarena because that's what I thought it sounded like and found nothing. I finally found it digging through the songs from Sirius on the day I heard it. So glad I found it!
