This evening around 8:30 pm in a small community house (that is no longer there) I was invited to come to a senior party given by my #1 rival school. I had a lot of friends who went to that school. While at the party I start walking across the dance floor. All of a sudden, the most beautiful creature I had ever seen in my life was standing in front of me. She was 5ft. tall, beautiful brown eyes, long Auburn red hair, a smile that would light a room and a body that just wouldn't quit. Then it happened, she looked up at me and asked if I was holding her glasses? I replied no, but would you care to dance? She said yes, and that's all it took. I ask her to dance back then, and 48 years later we're still dancing. We've been married 46yr. This song reminds me of all the days that have gone by, treasure each day as it comes because tomorrow is a new one and yesterday will never come again. So seize the day, and make each one last as long as it can.
Billy Joel's music is timeless...and this song is no exception. As always, the music is wonderful, but consider the lyrics...they are profound. @@jasonlee7816 Underrated as in the lyrics have substance. Of course that is just one man's opinion. For example, the first time I heard this song I was sitting in my father's 72 Camaro waiting while he ran into Price Club (now Costco) to grab something on Christmas Eve day in 1986. It was a cold, grey, rainy day. I was sitting in the parking lot listening to this song watching people scurry to do last minute shopping through the raindrops on the glass. I like all of Billy's songs, but I think this is one of the best and most under-rated of all his songs. This one is definitely in my top 10! It both rings true about life and brings back great memories as well. :) Thanks for this one!

Fun fact for not Italian people: in Italy this song is famous because it has been the theme song of "The Guiding Light", in Italy called "Sentieri" (paths).
Verissimo!
“These are the days to hold on to, ‘cause we won’t although we’ll wait to.” That’s always been one of my favorite lines. Good times don’t last forever, and people often say, “That’s okay, we’ll always have the memories of this time, and we can relive them any time we want to.” Yet we often don’t, and just go on with our lives and look forward. While it’s healthy to move on rather than spending our lives dwelling on the past, it’s also important that we never forget the lessons we learned and that we never forget the good times. The memories will comfort us in our older days, as we reflect on how lucky we were.
Just saw Billy last night at MSG. Didn't play this, my favorite song, but man he sure can still kick it being in his 70’s! He still can hit the high notes on Innocent Man😃
@dabighomie613 You movingly and succinctly expressed what this song is about...bravo! PS--- It's easy for most men to share their money, their "stuff", that's "safe". It's quite another for a man to share his heart...this is NOT SAFE...but it is the mark of a true man...and there is not as many of them out here as there should be. Again, nicely, even beautifully said, my friend.
I was at Billy's show in Pittsburgh that night. He had a Walkman on him tuned to the sports station so he could keep up with the score. When the Mets finally pulled ahead, he was so psyched that he came out and gave us a third encore. Great night!
This might be Billy’s best song, from an extraordinary catalog. Like an Innocent Man, remarkable lyrics. Not a single word not specific or lost in meaning. Both songs are more literal than poetic/symbolic, but along with the tune they paint such incredible depth of relatable emotion. It’s one you’ll always revisit
When i'm on youtube looking for good music is the only moment i wish i was OLDER. Back in those times, that's the stuff you'd find on the radio... something went terribly wrong, here.
Listened to this song countless times this last year. It was my senior year of high school and I was bound for the US Air Force Academy this summer. I just completed basic cadet training and listened to this song. So many memories of the times I had came rushing back. Thanks for the memories Billy.
I like songs that surprise you. The whole of this song is kind of downbeat, like someone looking back on the "good ol' days" then the end comes in. "Ah but holding you close is like holding the summer sun. I'm warm from the memory of days to come". Brilliant.
I grew up in Italy and in the late 80s this was the opening song of the soap opera "Guiding lights" ... my mom used to watch it everyday while I wanted to watch cartoons... Memories Ugh... I miss Italy so bad !!!
Our song, we were married in 1991, and we love all of Billy's songs, but this one was ours and it was played at our wedding, and we listen to it every time we miss each other. "This is the time to remember, cause it will not last forever..."
Stupenda canzone!
1986 the year New York Mets won the World Series. I watched ESPN 30 For 30 on the 1986 Mets recently and this song came on after they clinch the National League I believe. It really hit me for some reason even though I am not a Mets fan. The lyric "This is the time to remember Cause it will not last forever" was truly fitting to them because they have never ever replicated that years success and it was a one of a kind team with so much memorable players.
They played it when Orosco struck out Marty Barrett to win the World Series:..and yes this song was so fitting for them…they were a once in a generation team
When I first heard this song back in 1986 while working at a Bed & Breakfast The Villa Rosa Inn. I remember some my co-workers and I started singing it because we knew it was a great song. Some 34 years My Opinion hasn't changed it still a great song.

I haven't shown you everything a man can do
So stay with me baby
I've got plans for you
This is the time to remember
Cause it will not last forever
These are the days
To hold on to
Cause we won't
Although we'll want to
This is the time
But time is gonna change
You've given me the best of you
And now I need the rest of you
Did you know that before you came into my life
It was some kind of miracle that I survived
Some day we will both look back
And have to laugh
We lived through a lifetime
And the aftermath
This is the time to remember
Cause it will not last forever
These are the days
To hold on to
Cause we won't
Although we want to
This is the time
But time is gonna change
I know we've got to move somehow
But I don't want to lose you know
Sometimes it's so easy
To let a day
Slip on by
Without even seeing each other at all
But this is the time you'll turn back and so will I
And those will be the days you can never recall
And so we embrace again
Behind the dunes
This beach is cold
On winter afternoons
But holding you close is like holding the summer sun
I'm warm from the memory of days to come
This is the time to remember
Cause it will not last forever
These are the days
To hold on to
But we won't
Although we'll want to

Such a good song, very under-appreciated in its day, compared to his other hits.
Yes! I agree completely!!
I love just about every song that Billy does. He's one of the best ever.
amen
Kenneth Church I agree completely! He is one of my favorite musicians, of all time! I like all of his songs and I think this one in particular is very good and definitely is under-rated as well.
Not one he is the best ever
I totally agree
Joel Osteen Today word
Billy Joel, from the bottom of my heart, thank You for all the wonderful music. You are a blessing.
Boy this brings back memories, first song my wife let me really listen to.... and well the lyrics speaks for it selfes, sadly my wife is no longer among us but this special song Bring Joy to my heart❤️
Sorry for your lost. I am sure she’s in a peaceful place thinking of the memories you made together ❤️
1986, still had properly filled fruit lunch pies, lunch meat was priced properly per lb. , still had penny candy and much more
please vote for Trump
@@mrrandy1Holy crap...
From a very underrated album by the great Billy Joel. This wonderful song brings back many memories of 1986 and what good times the 80s were.
Fun fact for not Italian people: in Italy this song is famous because it has been the theme song of "The Guiding Light", in Italy called "Sentieri" (paths).
Well said , i m italian it was a huge hits back in the day not so much the song but the tv series
🤩🤩🤩🤩 verooooo
Verissimo!
I didn't watch the soap but I used to wait for sentieri just for the song 😂
❤️
“These are the days to hold on to, ‘cause we won’t although we’ll wait to.” That’s always been one of my favorite lines. Good times don’t last forever, and people often say, “That’s okay, we’ll always have the memories of this time, and we can relive them any time we want to.” Yet we often don’t, and just go on with our lives and look forward. While it’s healthy to move on rather than spending our lives dwelling on the past, it’s also important that we never forget the lessons we learned and that we never forget the good times. The memories will comfort us in our older days, as we reflect on how lucky we were.
Take time to play with your kids while you can. They won't be little forever.
Alas, too late, too late!
You only get 16 summers. After that, you'll make yourself available and they'll make themselves scarce.
@@thejogayogafiles yep. :/
One can also say "do the things you want to do before the kids take your freedom away."
@@JoeDiVitaMusic, personally I love my kids. I love spending time with them. I feel much more free with them. They are a true blessing for me.
‘I’m warm from the memory of days to come’
Best line.
This song is such a classic!
I love Billy Joel's songs SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!
Me too. I like all of his songs.
Thanks for your support likes and beautiful comment. I really do appreciate your support, where are you listening from?
Ahh, the memories! Brings me back to one of the best times of my life.
Just saw Billy last night at MSG. Didn't play this, my favorite song, but man he sure can still kick it being in his 70’s! He still can hit the high notes on Innocent Man😃
This song says everything a man in love attempts and wishes he could say to the that special someone that has his heart ❤
Yes but it might be resipa dated
@dabighomie613 You movingly and succinctly expressed what this song is about...bravo!
PS--- It's easy for most men to share their money, their "stuff", that's "safe". It's quite another for a man to share his heart...this is NOT SAFE...but it is the mark of a true man...and there is not as many of them out here as there should be. Again, nicely, even beautifully said, my friend.
Some kind of miracle that I survived, talk about songwriting - he is one of the best 💓
This is absolutely gorgeous. I love it so much.
They played this just as the Mets won the 86 World Series on the documentary 30 for 30. It was the perfect choice.
You stole my thunder. I came here just to post that. I loved the tears for fears.
This song was on an old VHS I wore out as a kid. It had NBA stars from the past. LOVE this SONG!
Then ESPN probably blamed Trump for it not ending in a tie and called it a case of racial inequality
I thought the same thing. But then I remembered Billy is a Bronx guy!
Oh, I haven't heard this song in a long time. It hits quite hard
One day these will be the good ol days
VERAMENTE FANTASTICA... ANCHE QUESTO BRANO RIMARRÀ PER SEMPRE NELLA STORIA DELLA MUSICA..👍
SEMPRE GRANDE !
My favourite song and he has SO MANY of them.....utter bliss.
Great song for wedding
Thanks for your love and support. I'm blown away by the love from you. Fans like you are the reason we keep moving
This is just truly one of the most beautiful songs of all time... and in some ways the saddest..cos the best times do not last forever
My favorite billy song! It hits your soul!
This was playing in my head this morning. Talk about 80s high school flash back!
Melodic line and lyrics that reach the bottom of the soul... Incredible Billy Joel's sensitivity in his compositions

Supergeniale Billy Joel in questa superfenomenale canzone quanto l'apprezzavo ogni volta che l'ascoltavo sei fantastico veramente.
Live in the present. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow hasn't happened yet. There's no time like right now.
I like songs that surprise you. The whole of this song is kind of downbeat, like someone looking back on the "good ol' days" then the end comes in. "Ah but holding you close is like holding the summer sun. I'm warm from the memory of days to come". Brilliant.
This should be every high school senior class song!
It was my class song at our senior prom!
And it was class of 1998 along with Green Day, Good Riddance.
I agree 👍 love it so much sent me back to my school days
I totally agree, it should be. It may also make this rare classic more known and popular!
I grew up in Italy and in the late 80s this was the opening song of the soap opera "Guiding lights" ... my mom used to watch it everyday while I wanted to watch cartoons...
Memories
Ugh... I miss Italy so bad !!!
Our song, we were married in 1991, and we love all of Billy's songs, but this one was ours and it was played at our wedding, and we listen to it every time we miss each other. "This is the time to remember, cause it will not last forever..."
That guitar solo on the outro....masterful!!!
Stupenda canzone!
What a perfect gem of a song...for those of us who are 'of a certain age.'
Oh no. How old are you ?if you don't mind me asking. I just realized I might be old...
@@scottross4374 Yeah it was so fitting for the moment.
Then in 1987 they couldn't repeat
What a memory lane. Thanks a lot. 👌👏👏👏👏

When I first heard this song back in 1986 while working at a Bed & Breakfast The Villa Rosa Inn. I remember some my co-workers and I started singing it because we knew it was a great song. Some 34 years My Opinion hasn't changed it still a great song.

I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
Pure definition of timeless music and treat each other like it’s the last time you’ll see each other.

I first heard this song when NBC played it after the national championship Fiesta Bowl between Miami and Penn State. I have loved it ever since. What a song
This song always reminds me of Axel's in Milwaukee. Carefree days of college and youth in general, as well as naivete and lost innocence.
Just beautiful & so poignant. I love you Billy and I am so grateful for your beautiful music.
Amazing song. People need to make songs like him.
