Bishop Stewart read Luka like a book. He knew Luka was struggling with his faith and he always pointed out to Kovac, you’re not checking up on me you’re searching for your faith. Luka is so kind to go after him and bring him back like Abby suggested he should do. It was a sweet short lived friendship between the bishop and Luka but he knew all along Luka was in pain and finally got him to open up.

Luka was a Great Addition to the E.R. Cast My 4 favorite E.R. characters were Dr. Mark Greene, Dr. Peter Benton, Dr. Doug Ross. And Dr. Luka Kovac All 4 of these Doctors made the show E.R. very Entertaining.
There is a scene in ER in which John Carter and Luka Kovac exchange words on the reality of war and suffering. At some point in the conversation, Kovac uses the familiar line, "Carter, you are an American, you wouldn't get it." Carter responded with a bit of irritation, "hey, Americans have died in wars in the Middle East as well!" *"But not while your women are raped and your children starve."* The average American born after the Second World War has never known suffering and misery that's at all comparable to what was experienced by the average Korean, Ukrainian, or Syrian. Luka's response to Carter captured the feeling of so many, including me, who came to the United States as first-generation immigrants. It's a feeling defined by anger and frustration at those Americans who don't seem to understand the brutality of life that takes place outside of their country and in turn don't appreciate how precious is their society and way of life.
Exactly! And even during WWI and WW2, while it is true that so many American soldiers died, the war didn't reach the civilians the way it did in Europe. No bombs, no towns burned down, women and children killed, death camps. Literally every member of my family old enough to remember WW2 has a tragic story to tell, one they witnessed first-hand although they were just little children. I feel that if Americans had that experience collectively as a nation, their general perspective on wars would be different. Not that I wish anyone this experience, I'm just wondering.
Speaking as a Brit, the closest I can come to conceptualising this kind of situation is the Blitz. But while there might be some similarities (the bombs, the scarcity that imposed rationing on us even in the 1950s) the danger was still at a remove We didn't suffer the same occupied nations did. ^ American I think tend to forget that the majority of their wars have been fought at a remove (the fact that elsewhere in the comments someone felt the need to bring up the civil war and war for independence as a ""rebuttal" to the really only serves to prove the point). One of the reasons the Vietnam war, the first war to be beroadcast in America was so damging to the nation's psyche was because the nation were being confronted with the brutual realities (and their complicity) which they'd previously been insulated from. ^(Before anyone says anything - I include the countries that we the British/English (delete as appropriate) occupied as part of the "empire" in that; India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were invaluable to the British in both world wars and they do not recieve anything like the recognition they deserve - nor the suffering they had to endure because of it.)
Thank you for uploading this scene! 👍 It was very sad, painful and heartbreaking to watch the death of Luka's family, I felt so sorry for poor Luka! 😢 (I'd love to give him a big hug here. 😇) But the confession and the absolution is touching and heartwarming. 😊 By the way, I simply love Luka Kovač, he's my favourite character ❤ (Abby: _"Tall, dark, handsome and mysterious."_ 😉) - along with Abby and Carter (but not as a couple!), of course.
It’s incredibly romantic looking back as Luka comes to America and he meets his future wife and mother of his son without even realizing it. Luka knew Abby was someone special when she made her interest in him known the first time. She provided him comfort even before they were able to be long term. So Luby 1 was just as important. It created and opened their connection and the serious chemistry they have made it possible for Luka and Abby to be ready for each other again in season 12. It established the foundation for them to be long term later. Seeing Luka miss Abby was heartbreaking and I was beyond thrilled when he made a move on Abby the second time around. I could tell their connection and attraction for each other was still lurking under surface I was just so happy Luka made his feelings known to Abby again. As she told Luka on Christmas Eve, she couldn’t of imagined them being together again better. Finally both in a place to be together and never saw them happier.
@@shellieeyre8758 actually, when he told Weaver about his family, he said they were "taken and killed in the war", in this telling, they were killed at home because of an explosion.

@@grapefruit1992 yeah they had small differences to the story each time it was told but when Luka brought up losing his family again to Abby, it was meant to bring the point home that he was in fact running to Abby after losing his first family.
