This guy's energy is insane. It make me want to go out and train. Right after a nap
👌🤣
Or 3 naps
We could take that as you just woke up, watched this video and want to go train,
but we all know you're napping right now.
I was able to actually go out and play Football right after a nap. Now, I sleep.
You don't have to master a flying kick by next Tuesday. I did some push ups as I watched the video.
Every bit helps! Do a set of your own push ups! ✨️
As an old man who, in my youth trained in Karate, Judo and during the Bruce Lee era some questionable Kung Fu I am happy to see the respect given here when due but also calling out the bullshit as well.
well done
You make some great points. I’m a Japanese Jujutsu and Judo instructor and I’m often asked what the best style is in my opinion. My response is always the same. It depends on what you are training for. For me, I train and teach Japanese Jujutsu, Judo and BJJ so those are best for me. I also add (because many will complain about certain styles not being good) that every martial art style is good for what it was intended for but not every martial art style is truly a self defense style or a one size fits all. I’m sure many people have different interpretations of what makes something a self defense style as do I.
@@OfficialVirilamis thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work. I have been training since 76 (except 8 years off after being injured on 9/11) and I’m still learning. BJJ is difficult at my age and with my injuries but I do what I can. I have been asked by several wing chun instructors I know to train in it but it’s not for me. I don’t have anything against it of course.
Well said . Plus I can't stress enough for people to stay safe and avoid danger at ALL. No matter WHAT you trained in or how LONG HOW you trained. Safety comes before pride. Also, my personal favorite style: Muay Boran/Thai, French Kickboxing, Judo, BJJ, Hapkido, Krav Maga, Escrima, Kobudo, boxing, Lethwei, and Shotokan.

I practiced Aikido, but never heard more precise description then this young man made. He actually put the light on most important practical aspects . That what he said I learnt after years of training and thinking.
My respect for his observations.
So... Why did you do it?
When I choose wushu, I was able to see clearly that all the Japanese martial arts was useless. Just because are so streight and... Like a piece of wood.
Didn't you see that before?
@@Mikichan85 I trained because of nice company and because I expected more from aikido. When that was not existing any more and aikido proved inadequate, I left. Quite normal and logical.
If you knew in advance that "all Japanese martial arts are useless", good for you.
@@Mikichan85 "so streight and... Like a piece of wood", that sounds like Wing Chun to me. 😁
Aikido isn't bad, but you know need a few techniques. It should be mixed with other material arts so you can choose between controlling a person or kicking their ass.
Some fall for the mystical promise of Aikido's founder, i.e., that it's a mean of acquiring the same claimed chi powers he had. My sensei at least believed in this, as other teacher I knew. I also got into Aikido due to some good friends when I was a teenager, but soon realized it all.
Thank you for treating aikido with respect. I agree that it's not necessarily good for self defense, but certainly has applications in all of the areas you've stated (bouncers, law enforcement, etc). Its training for body positioning is also useful for other arts (it helped me with Muay Thai footwork, believe it or not).
Xu Xiaodong is my man. I love this guy. Dude said himself that he's a mediocre martial artist who's past his prime, and he's still destroying "kungfu masters"
Yeah but definitely past his prime but hes pretty solid for most peoples standards I'd say
No crazy grappling but from what I can see he has pretty high level striking and maybe he has good wrestling idk haven't really seen it cos it doenst really happen when ur up against wing chun guys
@@Tr1s that's the point. A mediocre MMA fighter can sweep just about any kungfu "master" because MMA is built on scrutinizing every possible technique, something kungu has failed to do.
And yeah, he's not huge on grappling. He said so himself. He has a background in Sanda and Muay Thai, and a little bit of Shuaijiao and BJJ for grappling, things he picked up after losing a fight.
@@me0101001000 yeah for sure it's just not really meant for actually fighting at least the way it is trained is the main thing that makes it very different
@@me0101001000 yeah it's kind of a shame in a way, I just can't believe these guys are deluded enough to fight him. We all know the traditional martial arts are no where near as effective in a cage fight as MMA. Most people doing traditional arts aren't there to be become good cage fighters, there are many other aspects, like the art form, culture, community, fitness and athleticism. It would almost be like asking someone who does ballet and gymnastics to fight an MMA guy.

I appreciate what he said about older people in the park exercising and how much we need that in the US. I went to a park near the campus of Shanghai East Normal University when I studied there in 1989. I did my Tai Chi and would draw a crowd of uncles to make sure I was doing it right. Park exercise for old people isn’t a part of our culture, but it’s too bad. They would live a lot longer and be healthier. Great video as usual.
He said the west, not the US. God damn (US)americans and their egocentric worldview 🤡

I remember hearing of a (supposed) Wing Chun club where the instructor's idea of proving yourself was to go out and pick a fight with someone (on the street). Nothing like the club I wound up joining - the club I joined you had to be interviewed by the Sifu before you could join. If he thought you were there for picking fights, you were politely told that this club wasn't for them and that they should go study somewhere else. I was fortunate enough to be allowed in. I thought it was one of the best experiences in my life. I learned a lot about the Chinese culture and was thrilled to have the opportunity to go, with other students, with our Sifu to meet our Si Gung. I'll never forget it.
Sifu has to choose the good students with good intention. Can't teach students causing all sorts of troubles, become a threat to the society.
in ancient china, if a student commit a serious crime, Sifu has to put him out himself.
Respect! As an aikido student I agree with you 100 percent. This is why I study martial arts. Brilliant video and commentary.

I trained aikido for a few years when I was a kid because a family member of mine was starting a class for kids in a local dojo. The owner of that dojo would always tell me and the other kids that we should't use aikido in self defense because it wasn't very efficient, the stuff they would teach us there was more focused in learning to control you body and your breathing.
Also, there are some techniques in Aikido that actually work in self defense, and from personal experience, they can hurt a lot, but they are less flashy and usually involve imobilizations, so they never appear in those funny compilations.
Another thing that really doesn't help aikido's image, is that for some reason, the guys using the techniques in those demonstrations always looked super bored and like they didn't want to be there, which makes he stuff even more hillarious
I agree. I went to aikido lessons when I was 20. (20 years ago) The instructor was very good and aware as well. I realized its not eficient at all for fighting so I enjoyed practicing the stuff I founded useful like falling witch was very important for me in the winters while walking on ice :))
Only once happened to me one day random dude grabbed me by the wrist he wanted to snatch the phone out of my pocket and i had no problem avoiding that and getting out of the grip.
Aikido used to be good for little kids, learning about respect, falling and getting up after that is also a good psychological exercise and other things.
The guys using the techniques in demonstrations they look bored because they avoid getting tired because they are out of shape and fat :)) They proclaim a self imaginary status of self respect thus not being in need to move to much because they are to powerful when instead they are only out of shape and old :))
Many times this delusion gets out of control and so u get the supernatural masters teaching telekinetic nonsense :))
I laughed so much at that aikido slap at the end omg :)))
There are cops and bouncers that have used Aikido for years and years.
As simple as this: aikido should be practiced by smart people who have skills of fighting
@@LyricalBlock32 yes with it's good to mix it up hence mixed martial arts I actually use Kung Fu in mma
aikido is okay if your opponent isn't jacked, if they are, goodluck doing a joint lock or something, it won't work. that being said doesn't take away from it, it's a sport.
great point you made on aikido.
i practiced that when i was 10 to 15 but moved on to train jyujyutsu and kenjutsu where i found it alot more practical.
i also love the example of you said 50years and become a god or 3 months of kickboxing and become...good

So everyone is saying ranton is back, I too was under the impression that he is back until 5 min ago when I found out he has a 2nd channel where he has been uploading relatively consistently for like a year, so he was apparently never gone and I just didnt know. So if anyone like me also didnt know this search rantwo or go to channels on this channel, I sincerely hope I wasnt the only one who made this mistale
I trained in and received my black belt in Aikido (in Japan specifically). But I absolutely agree that Aikido alone would get you killed in a real fight. In my opinion it's a good way to add or refine certain parts of your fighting technique, but you still need a better base from MMA or kickboxing to actually be effective in defending yourself.
When I studied Tae Kwon Do I fell in love with forms. For me, each form should show an understanding of the technique whether it be a front kick , an over hand block,or balance. Forms are not fighting patterns. For me the represent the fierce, fluidity and functionality of the art all wrapped up in a display of love for the art.
Totally, I love long forms that you can get into and nail down to perfection. Real fights just don't happen much, self defense is good but it gets boring just working on kicks and punches.
Ok but what are you gonna do if I shoot a single leg on you?
@@nicholase2868 UFC after the first 8 videos got boring, looking at guys lay on top of each other rolling on the ground, just turned me off. Strange in that regard, but, i do enjoy seeing chicks do this, like it very much. 🤣, But seriously, the Forms help build stamina. I love Ving tsun train it it till this day, i also love Silat, and Kali. UFC dose not let folks perform kali or Escrima ,(as far as I'm told) in there matches. Tells me something right there. UFC is mostly, (in my opinion) , scripted entertainment, got to promote there star. I do love condition , i don't break bricks, or anything like that, but i do kick tress, (shin), and hit trees , (fist, forearms). To be honest, the last fight i had,(1994), amateur kickboxing match pretty much open my eyes. these days i perform the forms, and beat on trees. My tough guy fantasies died as a teen. God bless you and yours.
The Kung Fu dojo I went to taught Northern Shaolin, and Brazilian Jujitsu. And wushu for kids. Best 10 years of martial arts I had. Sparring was in both kid and adult class, and full meditation seminars on Thursdays. And Saturday morning classes were brutal. Good times I miss it greatly. My Sifu was very spiritual and is a Buddhist trained at the Shaolin temple before moving on to other training. He had always said something important he wanted to train people like how people fight not animal styles and always was realistic about on the streets saying the best defense was don’t be there. Solid advice
Sounds like the kung fu school I go to’
@@Suki-xu9xs oh cool. Mine that I went to is in Michigan. It is really important to be realistic about martial arts. Because Dojo lore will and claim anything. I majored in Anthropology and History and focused heavily on Chinese dynastic military history which adjusted my over all view on Shaolin.

I'm so glad you pointed that out about aikido that you have to do these funny flips and tumbles just to avoid getting hurt and even my master used to teach all of his students that in a real fight actually kick and punch! He trained in aiki-jiujitsu too so would often teach us the old versions of the techniques with all the strikes kept in. I'd highly recommend yoshinkan aikido, but only for people who have a lot of experience in striking based styles already.

Dude you’re too funny 😂🤣 this editing is great!
Great take on aikido man I trained it for a years as a kid and then realised it was not ideal to say the least, then I moved on to muay thai and am getting ready for my first fight after just a few months and those few month have gotten me further than years of aikido, however I will say the weight distribution stuff in aikido has actually helped me a lot in the clinch so I definitely would never say aikido has no use at all its just that the way it is practiced is probably the worst as well as it just not being meant for a reactive fight at all however like rantoni said it is great for bigger guys that are just trying to pin an move a drunk person pr somthing without accidentally hurting them.
aikido was meant for use during sword fighting ages, hence they have these disarming movements etc. people that shit on it are just unaware of its application and think its some fighting class. It's not a fighting class
Yeah yeah yeah, and then there's this: ruclips.net/video/WoQQlOEnSFI/видео.html
@@Cenot4ph Wen Chun is dual knife fighting technique too, it's not designed specifically for unarmed fighting.
@@Cenot4ph yeah but the fact that some of the dojos push it as "self defense" doenst sit right with me because it leads to false confidence like that vid of the aikido master getting ran by a guy that does MMA as a hobby,
And yeah like you said that root of that problem is a lack of understanding that aikido isnt for fighting and is just a totally separate thing
I'm really bored of people ignorant of "martial arts" when and where was the idea that its was self defense begin?
First off most fighting forms were to combat non fighters.

Love this guy, super funny and talented. I wish he uploaded more often. But I can’t help but notice that his returning video after 4 months (3rd video in over a year) is a “part 2” of his most popular video ever (20 million views) that was made over 2 years ago.
His second channel has gotten vids steadily, even if some are just clips from his stream (I think)
and your point is .....?
ye, no shit. if you were following him on his 2nd channel or twitch, or instagram ( anywhere really ) youd know that he uses the main channel for shaolin videos mainly for that juicy ad money. everything else on rantwo
9:35 yep, that sums up the entire idea of this video. People had shown you how to bend a spear with their throat, and had their eyeballs poked out by spears. If anyone still claim that some moves are too dangerous to "show" or "perform" they are just bullshxting.
I agree with the aikido thing.
I did aikido for a couple of years and i can fully say that aikido is specifically for defusing a physical conflict WITHOUT harming yourself AND your opponent.
It doesn’t teach you any offense.
Just evasive defense.

Time to catch up
love your videos I appreciate someone who speaks out against fake martial artists.
Glad to see Ranton back!
I'd be curious to hear him talk about which Shaolin forms would be used in real combat. My theory is that the cool, flashy stuff's only use would be to confuse opponents, otherwise it's just a lot of wasted movement. I might be wrong, but an actual expert's opinion would be cool.
No it's to fight people who aren't very strong or trained, and then you end up with moves that are useless against real trained fighters.
the analogy of shaolin temple would be a country fair of Wagyu Cow Breeds, where each cow species is a martial art. Before you needed cows for tilling the land, then cows for meat consumption, then cows for fast food industry, then cows for dairy... the point is to recognize the complex supply and demand of just the surrounding provinces of China from the Shaolin Temple, then you can see the diversity
I see Ranton, I click. Simple as that

One thing about screaming that people probably have already mentioned is that it also has a practical effect, as screaming causes your torso muscles to contract (to expel huge amounts of air to produce the scream), adding more explosive force to your attacking motion, or defense. That's also why you can hear combat athletes exhale when punching, achieving a similar result, but on a smaller scale (since obviously screaming all the time will cause you to hyperventilate)
This video is art brother. great video man !
I am in LOVE with this chill ranton. I also am one of the few people that will appreciate the reduced, over the top editing
Xu Xiaodong is a hero. The government even tried to stop him through blocking his passport and such.

Local government*. Big shot don't even care him.
What they care is to be an emperor of China, take over Taiwan and dominate the world.
Are you sure he had his passport blocked? I follow him a bit and he has certainly been harassed by the government, but I never heard about the passport. Where did you find that information?
His passport wasn't blocked thats just his marketing scheme to get more attention. He was an asshole but he did have a valid point about some horrible masters in China.
i did 3 little years of aikido as a kid, and even is i didn't really like it (nor did it for long) there is one thing that absolutely saved me more than once and that i was very grateful to have learned:
Falling.
When playing soccer, when i had my skateboard phase or even when cycling, most of the times i had the reflex to roll instead of just flattening myself on the ground.

Always when I watch your videos I think how much is nice to be somehow closer to Shaolin Kung Fu and how much sometimes I wonder about it. When I was younger I trained Jeet Kune Do and one day we had a visit of a master in Chin-Na, we learned a lot of practice but because was just one class unfortunately a lot of history was left out (or if it wasn't I maybe didn't pay attention or I don't remember 🤔). It was a plot twist to me to see actual people from Shaolin training Chin-Na, I didn't know the connection and it made me so happy! Somehow I felt even closer (even if so distant). Hey bro great stuff, you’ve really hit a home run with the idea to take what works from different systems and at it too things like kickboxing, judo, and ,bjj. I have been training for 30 years in the martial arts myself, started when i was 12, I was lucky to meet a instructor that was very open, and practical. He showed me that there is a place for traditional martial arts there really is, more for conditioning and strengthening and developing power, when I started to train in kickboxing and BJJ it was very natural or somewhat lol. It saddens me to know that the Shaolin have changed and moved away from practical self defense, But as you said very good conditioning and beautiful forms must build killer cardio
