  • Went shooting and something isn't quite right - think a spring broke. I will be sending it back to Ruger and will let you know what I find out........ I have loved this gun so far, let's see how it goes.

Happened to my Max9 after 50 rounds. Sent it in to Ruger and got it back 7 days later fixed. Replaced springs and detent and have 300 rounds thru it since and no issues

Design flaw. But it can be fixed.

Is a design flaw or simple case of not cleaning up the frame after manufacturing it? Either way, I was happy that it wasn't a broken spring.

@murphyfirearmstraining3630 its a design flaw. They didn't not make the frame narrow enough to prevent the spring from deviating from its position. They should have created a detent in the slide stop so the spring can be seated and stay captive. There are ways to fix it. I just bought the gun so I will be conducting experiments

This is a common issue with the max 9. It’s essentially the slide release spring , which also interacts with the takedown latch. When broken the slide will lock with a full mag and the takedown latch will flop around.
Ruger will replace the grip frame and it’ll run perfect. I assume later productions will come with the issue fixed
