Your title reads "problems" - plural. This is just ONE issue, albeit a major one. I bought mine, took it to the range, where I experienced this issue right off the bat, but figured it just needed its first cleaning and some lubrication on the slide rails (not too much). I cleaned and lubed it, loaded it with defense rounds (12 rd mag that I bought separately), and kept it unracked in the POS soft holster that came with it until my Hawg Stash holster got here. With that, I decided it was time to start carrying it racked - and that's when I realized I'd been carrying a useless, non-operational pistol. I'm grateful for this video, because I'll sleep better knowing that Ruger is already aware of this and will take care of me. Even still, it's incomprehensible how their quality control allowed this get past them, and why they haven't recalled the serial numbers affected by now. I just bought mine in April, 2024, ONE YEAR after this video was made!! This is my first Ruger handgun, and I'm not impressed at all after this experience. I've never had any experience like this with my Sig or Smith & Wesson's.

To everybody making gun videos, it’s really hard to see detail of a tiny area in a gun that is black and has a shadow on the area your speaking about. If you could hold a small pen light aimed on the subject area, that would really help us see it.

How about the magazine slightly releasing, not dropping all the way, but just being slightly dislodged? So I have at least three problems with this gun, the not going into battery, the mag randomly dislodging, and the horrific accuracy. I’ll contact them about the first two, it I’m not impressed. I hear there’s a Sig 9 that’s just about as small. I might just go for that one. Springfield has a Xd 9 elite or something I’m also considering.

Great video. We need more of this type explaining malfunctions and corrections made by the manufacturer.
I have the Ruger LCP2 in .380 and after the first 50 rounds with just target ammo, the extractor blew off. I took a picture of the slide from every angle so that I’d see a difference in a new slide. I’d be worried if there wasn’t a difference, since that would mean Ruger sent me the same crap.
I sent it back to Ruger for repair. 10 days later I had a new slide, barrel and guide rod assembly. Not only that, but a mechanical drawing of the new slide and how it differed from the old slide I had. The difference was in the firing-pin/extractor retaining pin location. The picture of my old slide showed it coming in at an angle from the side. The new one came straight down from the top. So instead of one pin holding both parts, now they have two separate pins. Ruger did good. They explained that I’d had a first generation slide and it had problems. Now with the new slide and after over 400 rounds of various ammo, I’ve had zero malfunctions.
Every new production pistol on the market is bound to have some lemons or common problems. Most manufacturers won’t acknowledge them and their customer service sucks.
Ruger is well-known for their honesty and impeccable customer service. They proved that to me and it’s great to hear they proved that to you as well. I now have 3 Ruger pistols and haven’t had any problems but if I do, I know Ruger will fix them.
    Thanks Ruger!

Ruger sent a free replacement receiver to me for my LCP 1 - it had some rust develop on it - hot and humid in south Florida.

@@usernamemykel I bought a bunch of "extra parts" for Ruger MKIII's, like the extractors, screws, springs, ejectors, trigger bars and stuff like that and of all the parts I never took any of them out of the bag (even now)... but ALL of the parts I ordered developed rusted in finger prints while still in he bag. I contacted Ruger to ask them if I could get replacements (if I send the originals back), but they refused, because I purchased the parts over 90 days prior (I purchased the parts like 100 days before, so they were 10 days over the 90 day mark). Either way though, I think it's BS. They're brand new parts that were never opened and some idiot employee touched them all with his greasy sausage fingers and now I have a couple hundred bucks of brand new, unused parts ruined.

That is pretty crazy. I hope if I ever buy any Ruger LCP II parts that they're the newer version and not the old version. I know it's not a common problem and is extremely unlikely to happen... but it would still be nice to know that it definitely won't happen. Hope I can find a picture of that diagram/blueprint that shows that... and I can definitely appreciate when a gun companies doesn't just fix the problem, but explains exactly what it is and how they fixed it. I had the same issue. It went away after cleaning and lubing the gun. There have been no failures to RTB when shooting since. However, it fails to RTB with a round chambered when the slide is pulled back 1/2" and released. Pushing on the rear of the ejector causes immediate RTB. I may call Ruger and ask for a new slide as well. UPDATE: DEC 19, 2022. Went to the range today and had no issues with failure to RTB. The gun had not been fired for five months, so, I feel like I can trust this gun.

New slide and barrel didn't fix it. Polishing everything on the pistol didn't fix it.

It seems like everyone else that has had these issues said Ruger customer service was good. For me, they fired a few mags through it, and said it was ok. They sent it back without replacing anything. Did they just get tired of fixing them? I could probably deal with the occasional failure to chamber a round fully, but when it fails to eject a live round it really wedges in place. I have to pull the slide back while tapping it with the other hand. Not the ideal situation for concealed carry…hopefully my assailant has a good sense of humor.

I've actually been considering buying one of these but to be honest, I have seen far too many videos and read on far too many forums about people having these exact same issues with this firearm. Granted nobody ever rushes onto the internet to say how great something is and you really only hear people complaining or mentioning it when it's not right.
But I'm a firm believer that when you pay good money for a product, the product should work as designed and function correctly. And nowhere is that more important than when you buy a firearm that you may have to use to defend yourself or your family. Everybody who mentions the issues always says the same thing. Hey Ruger took care of me and it's great now. So then again I ask well why wasn't it that way to begin with? But now I am seriously rethinking whether I want to take the chance on an LCP Max or not. It hits every single thing that I'm looking for in a high capacity 380 belly gun but.....
Like other people, I owned a p85 and that thing was a tank. It would chew up and spit out any kind of ammo you put in it. You could throw it in the dirt, the water or the mud and pull the trigger and it would go bang.
So now I'm going to rethink what I may want to purchase in the way of a small deep pocket carry gun.

I ended up getting a G42 when it came down to it. Sure, the LCP Max is smaller, but not that much in my opinion. Plus needing to buy another mag to make it be full capacity puts it at Glock prices. Maybe the ole LCP is the way to go for some. Hell once, I put 500 rounds on the G42, it goes to "shoot a box every 3 to 4 months, keep it clean, and carry" status. I would not be surprised that I end up with an ole LCP before too long at 200 bucks.

    • @carlmontney7916
      @carlmontney7916 6 месяцев назад +1

So, I actually ended up getting an LCP max the price was too good to pass up. The one I have so far has been excellent and trouble free. I have put about only 200 rounds of various brands and types of ammo and it has fed everything flawlessly. It seems to really like the Lehigh defense 380 shoots nice tight groups with that.
But when you think about it the LCP Max is pretty much a get off me gun anyways. It's not made to shoot at longer distances. It will still easily hit center mass at 15 yards as long as I don't move around too much so I'm okay with that. As far as the round capacity goes if I've gotten myself into a situation where I'm going to need 12 rounds of 380, or any caliber for that matter. I've gotten myself into a bad situation.

1st of all I'm jealous you have 2 lol, i want 2. but its my favorite pocket by far, even like it over my compacts. (more accurate with Max than a Glock 26)
    350 rounds through mine.
for hollow points only issue were with Norma 85 grains. in the 10 rd & 12 rd mags. having 12 or even 10 caused issues like failure to feed where the slide got stuck. 9 or less ran flawless, if i loaded 2 different rounds on the top the rest of normas ran good, but 2-5 errors with one round type is enough for me to chalk it altogether. didn't have this issue with Hornady 90 gr, Armscor 95 gr, american eagle 95 gr. fmjs run really smooth as they should but specifically feel smooth on this 380 idk how to explain it, feels good. lol, better than Glock 42 (IMO). I have white lithium grease on the slide as well. Next round i will buy is the ARX because the gel test ive seen make it seem like the best 380 out right now.

The grip texture was not enough, hand would slip, add Talon grips
Same fail to go into battery issue like every 10 rounds. Ruger sent me a replacement slide, it failednto feed on the 5th round so I just sent it back. I bought a heavier spring, no longer had the go into battery issue, but had like 3 failure to feed out of 120 ish rounds. I polished the feed ramp. Fired 50 FMJ and 13 Hornady CD with no issues even with limp rist. But it'll need more rounds before I trust it

Can't quite see the "bump" in the slide where you are indicating on the bad slide. Every time you bring the slide close to your camera, you move into a shadow. The camera is blocking the light. You need a secondary light positioned above the camera, and a bit behind the camera. As you mention, it's all black, but it gets blacker when in a shadow.
I looked at my slide, and cannot see the bump (but then I cannot see well the bump you are trying to describe). I still see a partial groove where you are pointing on both the bad and good slide, and it's there on mine, too. When I manually load a round into the chamber (using my fingers, not from a magazine), the slide doesn't go into battery (fully move forward) until I push hard on the back of the slide. Not a problem with rounds pushed out from a magazine. Only when I manually insert a round into the chamber does the slide not fully seat (go into battery) and I have to push on the slide's back end to get it to seat. You mention the old (bad) slide not going into battery, having to force it (push it or bang on the back end of the slide), and that's what happens to me - but ONLY when I manually insert a round into the chamber and with no magazine. The distance you show the slide sitting backward out of battery is what I experience when manually inserting a round, and releasing the slide which stops short of battery. No problem if the gun is empty, I put in a loaded magazine, and cycle the slide to inject the top round from the magazine. Won't naturally go into battery with a manually loaded round. Will go into battery with a round loaded from the magazine.
Also, I have had the slide lock back on firing the 1st round from the magazine. The slide is already locked back (after emptying the prior magazine), I put in a new magazine, the slide is released to go into battery (fully seated), and after firing the 1st round the slide is locked back again. There are more rounds in the magazine. The slide shouldn't lock back until after the last round is fired when the magazine goes empty. I am not using +P ammo, just normal stuff. The 1st round's shell ejected properly, there are more rounds in the mag, but the slide locked back. Maybe it's a magazine feed problem where the gun itself thinks there is no next round sitting in the magazine so it locks back. Or there is problem with Ruger's magazines for the LCP Max. They had to replace one magazine, because the follower kept popping out of the magazine. The lips at the top of the magazine that hold the round inside the magazine are very short; i.e., there is very little bent over metal to form the lips at the top of the magazine. Could be their follower was too narrow, so it could push past the lips at the top of the magazine. They sent out a new magazine, and I've had no problems with the new one, but the width of the follower and the distance between the magazine's lips are very close to the same. The follower can't be too wide; else, it would be too tight and possible jam or too much friction against the mag's shell. Just seems their follower is a bit too narrow. I heard they had a problem with a supplier resulting in some unreliable mags.

When you manually put a round in the chamber and close the slide you have to force the ejector over the case. Bad for all parts involved. Please use the magazine.

    • @vanguardlh9548
      @vanguardlh9548 Год назад

@@rustysteed8414 The shell is not riding against the ejector. When a round is manually loaded into the barrel, the ejector isn't touched. The ejector does have to rid over the lip of the shell to engage the indent needed for the ejector to flip out the shell after firing. Even with the round in a magazine, and releasing the slide, the ejector STILL must ride against the lip to engage the indent in the shell. So, whether using the magazine or not, the shell is loaded into the barrel without any contact with the ejector. The ejector engages when the slide moves forward into battery, and the ejector must ride the shell lip no matter how the round got into the barrel. That's why there is a spring on the ejector to allow it to ride over the lip of the shell that is already in battery.

My Max performed great the first ~1000rnds and then problems started. 1) I have to hit the back of the slide to get it to seat all the way forward a few times every time I’ve gone to the range lately. 2) But the more serious issue is I notice that the slide bows out right where the trigger bar connects to the trigger when I pull the trigger and the gun will not fire! Once it cools down when I get home it works fine and I can dry fire. I’ve lost confidence in this gun and have returned to my trusty j-frame.

I didn't/couldn't see whatever you were trying to describe. all I got was whatever you were looking at was on the opposite side of the slide from the extractor. I'll now have to look at mine and try to see exactly what you were trying to describe. A couple of suggestions for next time you do this are angle the slide with a light colored background for contrast with a black slide, and use a small punch to point out the differences. The screwdriver was too big and the pick wasn't bad, but please keep this in mind next time. Ruger customer service is fantastic though.

Replaced the guide rod and outer spring with the Mcarbo parts, and the ONLY problem I seem to have after doing all this is with the 10 round magazine. Sometimes I get a “ failure to load” when the magazine is full and I hit the slide release. Never happens with the 12 rounder. It shoots fantastic after doing those upgrades, with the exception of trying to place a round in the chamber using the 10 round magazine.

It was either this or the glock 42 and I went with the glock seems to have been a good decision I rather 6 for sure shots than 10 maybes

Get the +3 mag plates & then you'll have 9 +1 in the chamber which makes the grip that much better.

From what I understand everyone who buys one of these guns has to make repairs or changes before they can use the equipment. Bullshit. Could get you killed. Not worth the hassle.

For the perfect self defense gun get a 12 GA. easy to conceal. Just buy bigger pants.

This gun is so inaccurate I literally can't hit anything beyond 5 yards with it. Another problem I have with it is the failure to feed.

Why would you want a firearm that is junk right out of the box? Crazy.
