Wait a minute how can this be true, all the big Gun Tubers said it was flawless and the greatest invention since the wheel. This is killing my faith in YT reviews!
I contacted S&W concerning the recoil spring assembly issue about 3 weeks ago. The person I was dealing with was very pleasant (no attitude) and said they were aware of the issue and would get me a new part out as soon as they were back in stock. Today (11/12) it came in the mail and unfortunately it was worse than the original unit. My spring is tucked in where it needs to be but still no joy. Could the cavity where the guide rod goes into be slightly undersized?
Update: I sent an email to S&W yesterday (11/12) telling them I received the replacement recoil spring assembly and that it did not work. This morning, customer service replied to my email saying they were sorry it didn't solve my issue and would be sending me yet another replacement. While I appreciate they're response, I'm afraid that I'm going to get another part exactly like the first two. Fingers crossed!
Had just one problem with Smith, but it was a big one. In 2015 I bought a M&P .40 that I though was a good price, brand new, and a LGS. I went straight to the range with it, put a little oil on the rails, and fired a couple mags. I was lucky to get a 10" group with it. I field stripped the pistol and looked in the barrel, and it was completely smooth-bore. No lands and grooves. The only mark inside the barrel looked like a single small tooling gouge that ran about 3/4 the length of the barrel. I called Smith and even sent pics of the barrel. They said, "No way that's true, you would have to fire tens of thousands of rounds to make it smooth." They completely blew me off. I spent $120 on a new barrel and sold the pistol asap. Took several years (and the Shield Plus) to take another chance on Smith. Hopefully their quality control and customer service have improved since 2015.
In the 10 years I have had S&W firearms I've only had 2 problems. Customer service was perfect both times. I called, spoke with a rep, we discussed the problem, they sent me a return label the same day,I sent them the gun, they fixed the problem quickly, I received the gun promptly, end of story. I'm sold on S&W.
I'm happy to hear that your CS experiences with them have been good, but mine in 2024 have certainly been less than stellar. The BG 2.0 required emailing between a bunch of departments, and took about 5 days to get an RMA label. Now, the gun was gone for two weeks, so that was pretty quick turnaround time. For my 43c back in May, that was a phone call, and leaving a voicemail. They never returned the voicemail, so I ended up emailing them, and getting a prompt reply back with an RMA label. That gun was gone for a while, just about two months. A big thing is that S&W has overhauled how their CS works for warranty work. The staff that I contacted in May was entirely from Mass, but for the BG, it was staff in TN. However, the TN produced, TN CS'd gun went to Mass to get worked on. The long and the short is that all of S&W's elements have gotten worse as time progresses. I don't know if either of your times that you've had to work with their CS was in 2024, but I'm guessing that it was not, and it was before they totally changed how it is done. Trust me, I'd rather do a simple call than to get bounced around between a half dozen employees. Thanks for commenting!
when I first got mine I had issues with failing to return to battery and failures to eject. After approx 150 rounds the problems all went away. I did polish the feed ramp with a dremel and fitz polish but no idea if that helped more than the break-in
Last 2 S&w I sent in for warranty were a joke on their part. I have a 66-8 that is very rough from the kerf when they cut the forging, cylinder gap was at max (as new), and there was a good amount of end shake. They said it was within spec. 2 weeks wait. A bg380 “1.0” had a bent frame rail and wouldn’t feed/extract without being hand manipulated. They said rail was within spec, but fixed the feeding issue by replacing the grip assembly. 5 months wait.
Using the mag loader that comes with the Ruger LCP Max, I can get all twelve in. the thing I notice though, is that the mag seems to bulge out a bit on the twelve round one. So far no feeding issues but I haven't tried hollow points yet. Wasn't the Highway Patrolman a S&W revolver?
I think I need to lop the bottom loop on the magspring off of my 12 rounder. I took it apart, an the design of the floorplate/locking tab/spring is really strange. I'm not surprised that you've got the magazine bulging, as they did some work to make these tiny mags hold 12, and I think it may have been a bit of a compromise. And yep, the Highway Patrolman is an older S&W revolver! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I love smith and wesson but you are 100% correct about their quality control. 7 m&ps and only one was good to go out of box.
Thanks for the vid.. I've got a BG 2.0 and have 3 issues. #1, sight was off.. front sight wasn't centered. I had that fixed. #2 Sometimes, my 10 round mag won't load pass 2 rounds... and #3, my 12 round mag won't drop, when I hit the mag release. It drops about a 1/2 inch, but won't fall out.
I'm currently also testing the Ruger LCP Max, and the G42. Both guns have worked more reliably than the BG 2.0, and have certain features that are better. The G42 is larger and holds less rounds, but can be fitted with much better sights, and is much lighter recoiling. It's a gun that I would feel comfortable making a 30-50 yard shot with. The LCP Max is a lot closer to the BG 2.0. The sights are just as open, but are a little less bad, as they actually shoot to POI, within reason. My gun shoots a little low, but height is a lot easier to adjust to than windage is. The LCP Max also has a very large aftermarket, which is great for holsters, recoil assemblies, and other parts. If you broaden to pocket guns as a whole, you've got a smattering of revolvers (like the LCR), and other small guns, like the LCP Lite Rack and the Taurus TUC 22.
@@dry509 I've carried a lot of different 9mm guns over the years. Generally speaking, it's easier to get a reliable 9mm than it is a smaller gun in .380 or .32. Right now, I'm mostly carrying Glocks for my 9mm guns. The G43x and G48 are both fairly thin, fairly small, and shoot quite well. They've both also got great aftermarkets too. When I'm carrying a larger 9mm, it's a G45 (full size frame, medium length slide). I've got videos on my G48 and G45 here on the channel, in which I show the holsters I use, and modifications I've made to the guns. Going broader, I've carried guns from HK, SIG, S&W, Beretta, Tisas, and more. There's a lot of good options out there, it's just a matter of finding something that feels good in the hand, and has some sort of good track record. Doing a lot of research into reviews and testing is a good thing too. From HK, I've carried the P30 and VP9s. The VP9 is a really quite good gun, just a little bit big for most folks to conceal well. The VP9SK (small version) would likely be a good candidate for a carry gun. From SIG, I tested and carried two P320s (M17/M18) during COVID. The guns were fine, but with the safety concerns with those guns, I would avoid them. Despite my gripes with S&W, I still like a lot of their guns. The original single stack Shield 1.0/2.0 are guns that I really like, and have owned 3 of over the years. They're thin, (generally) reliable, and are pretty easy to shoot well. They have a robust aftermarket too, which is great. The larger M&P 9 line is generally good too, and the poor QC doesn't seem to have impacted it as much as the revolvers and the newer Bodyguard. With Tisas and Beretta, those are heavier steel/aluminum framed guns. They're not as easy to carry, due to the weight and size. That being said, the Beretta 92, and many of the Tisas 1911s are quality guns. I hope this helped a little! If you have any questions, I'm happy to help with answering them.
My BG 2.0 came out of the box needing an alignment. The slide rails crooked. The back rails seemed okay but the front rails were sitting lower in the frame and canted off to the right. S&W sent a shipping label after my fist email. Hopefully it won't take them too long to get that straightened out.
I only had a 5 minute convo with their customer service and they sent me a return label straight away. Mine shipped off last week so I haven't got it back yet. I had issues with feed ramps and not feeding hollow points, sights were off and the guide rod spring kept coming off.
Thanks for the info! They did say that they were in the process of hiring more staff/training them when I spoke with them last month, so maybe they ironed out some of those kinks in the weeks to follow.
Mine was back to the factory for 8 weeks for repair of a broken thumb safety. Same wording on the work order as yours, not a hint of what was actually done. The safety was repaired, thankfully. I thought I knew something about semi autos, but have never heard of a ledge on a feed ramp. What possible function can it have other than to inhibit feeding? I did my own polishing.
I mean, imagine takin your car to tha shop, n tha paperwork just says "I fixed it! That'll be $1200!"? Even ifit's warranty repair, not DOCUMENTING the customer's issues, and what (If anything?) was done to CORRECT them, is pretty gd INFURIATING!
I just got mine and don’t have any feeding issues. but the sights are way off and I couldn’t load more than 2-3 rounds in the 12 round mag. I got a replacement mag from S&W, but dealing with their customer service was a joke.
Highway Patrolman. Great job. Very unbiased and honest review! I to had issues right out of the box. Pretty much the same as you had. Im still waiting for my return labels. I finally called Smith and they confirmed the issues. My biggest concern was the guide rod. They confirmed that it was an issue. They told me they would ship me a guide rod assembly when they become available. I also found that my gun is VERY ammo finicky. The gun will not go into battery frequently. Im hoping the new guide rod assembly will correct that issue. Im kinda regretting my purchase of this gun and disappointed in Smith for the handling of the issues. Im sticking with my LCP MAX for my edc for now. Ruger has excellent customer service and the gun runs great. Great job on the review! Im looking forward to your review on the LCP MAX!
S&W really has dropped in quality over the last 30 years. It's a shame, as they can make a good gun, but the rate that you'd actually get one is not great these days. I'll be doing some more videos on the LCP Max soon. I covered it in my Pocket Pistol Roundup of 2024 earlier this year, but that was before I got really familiar with the gun. I'll be sure to put more time into it, and will do some tabletop vids before too long. I do have an issue, where my gun shoots rather low. I can shave the sights for that, but with the tritium, I do have some concerns. A link to that article is here: www.primerpeak.com/pocket-pistol-roundup-round-2-2024/ Thanks for commenting, and thanks for getting to the Easter Egg in the video!
I tried shaving mine as well. I really messed it up. Ruger replaced the slide assembly no questions asked. Very quick turn around as well. I also replaced the trigger with an mcarbo uprade trigger and trigger spring kit. It really has made the LCP MAX a pleasure to shoot and gave me confidence to carry it. I hope someday I'm able to feel the same about the BG 2.0. Thank you for the reply!
12 round mag? I've seen reviewers having issues with fitting the last round in the Shield Plus pistols when they first got released. Seems like they are assuming you're gonna carry with one in the chamber..thus "12 rounds"..idk?
Well, the mag has a 12th round witness hole, so I think that they want it to properly hold 12. That being said, I don't think I'm getting 12 in mine without modifying it.
Bought mine 9/6/2024. Had it at the indoor range twice. Today is 11/19/2024 and still in the process of allegedly being repaired for the second time as stated prior. DO NOT BELIEVE THE NOTABLE REVIEWERS. Trade in value is zero.
I had an issue with loading the 12 round mag. I seen another reviewer that had something (plastic, so it didn’t ruin the inside) and compressed the spring repeatedly the loosen it up. I tried this and I must say it worked and the mag went in a lot easier as well. I would say the mag springs just needs to have a break in period and doing this just speeds up the process without having to fire rounds through the gun
I've done quite a few compression cycles on the magazine now. It is looser than it was before, but I still cannot get the 12th round in there. I'll be ripping the mag apart soon, and seeing if the spring is possibly bound up internally. Thanks for commenting Greg!
Very same issue on my rear sight. Tried to drift it over with brass punch and hammer. No luck. Acts like its welded. Only other issue is the pressure needed to rack the slide. Hope it loosens up with use. Good video.
Thanks Dennis! I'm pretty sure that S&W had to use a machine to get my rear sight out, and then reprofile part of the base of it to get it back in. The gun is hard to rack, but I think that's just inherent to the recoil assembly, and how the trigger/striker mechanism goes. Thanks for commenting!
Mine has over 250 rounds through it with just the first mag having one FTF. I left the slide locked back for over two weeks and both mags filled before I shot it. All three springs eased up considerably. Just a suggestion.
Failure to feed frequently. Mine they said they polished the feed ramp (which I'd already done) and they fired ammo at the range. They didn't say how many or what kind of ammo.
I hate that they don't provide a detailed report when you get the gun back. Doing work without confirming that it made a difference is just poor on their part.
I have had failure to feed, but only on Underwood Extreme Defenders. Mine might have feed ramp issue too, I need to better examine mine. Magazine issue is a problem. I have gotten 12 rds in mine with supreme effort, and I got it to latch in place again with serious force. Trying to leave gun like that when I am not using it to break it in. Other than that, my biggest complaint is the rear sight. Unlike the LCP max which has a rounded off top of the end of the slide, BG 2.0 has a squared off end. The sights come back to the very end. The problem I have is that the sights protrude and have a very sharp edge that cuts into my belly when carrying AIWB. I guess I could file off the edge on the sights.
These guns really a bit of a mixed bag. It's a shame that the consistency just isn't there. I agree about the sights, they're thin and sharp. Between carry and the sight picture being pretty open, I'd be happy with a replacement in the future. Thanks for commenting!
I have the same issue with the 13 and 15rd mags for my Shield Plus where the last round will not go in. Got new springs and followers which did nothing. Seems to be common.
@Paul_Whaley I did a little modification to the followers which helped. Also tried clipping off one coil from the spring which also helped. Smith sent me new followers and springs to try. The followers were the same but the springs were different.
5 months and 700 rounds mine has been flawless with cheap HP and flat nose. Sight is just a hair low left but not bad. I can get 12 and 10 rounds using my pink Lula, it did help to keep them loaded full since day one. Yes its tight but I can hand load the 10 rounder without the Lula. Yes I have to smack the back to load a full mag with one in the chamber. I polished my ramps on day one like I do with all my pistols and yes I had the slight bump I mostly removed long ago. It was not perfect out of box but it works reliable for me, same thing with my Toyota.
I purchased 2. One is flawless but the other jams so bad that I have to press the slide against the range table to clear the gun. Sent it back to Smith for warranty. Got it back after 6 weeks and it fired 2 mags before jamming the exact same way. I think mine has to do with the guide rod spring. I've not even called Smith back yet. I'm kind of disgusted with it. I got similar vague notes of what they did to the gun.
When I got my Shield Plus recently, I could not get 13 rounds in the 13 round magazine at first. After sitting a day with 12 rounds and with it inserted into the pistol, I was then able to add a 13th round to the magazine but not insert it into the firearm. After another couple of days with the magazine loaded with 13 rounds, I was able to insert the magazine with the slide closed and a round in the chamber if I used great force. I am now ready to take it to the range this coming weekend. NOTE - it was easier to insert 13 rounds into the 10 round magazine with the "13 round Magguts extension" than the OEM 13 round magazine that it came with. And that fits easily into the firearm. I have the OEM stock 10 round, one modified 10 > 13 round, and the OEM 13 round to try out.
The 12 rounder spent a lot of time loaded to 11, and in the gun, prior to sending the gun into S&W. I also did quite a few compression cycles (loading and unloading the magazine). Even yesterday, I could not get more than 11 rounds in the gun. Well, I went and lopped part of the bottom loop of the magazine spring off. The 10 round magazine uses a different spring design than the 12 round one. It is a tapered spring, that goes from thinner loops at the top (where the magazine bottlenecks down to single stack, and wider at the bottom. The 12 round one is a messy design, with different sized loops all throughout. With chopping off most of the bottom loop of the spring, I can now fit 12 rounds in the gun (by hand, but still with considerable force), and it can fit in the gun with a closed slide, again, with a lot of force. I'll be testing the gun later this week, so we'll see if it works. Thanks for commenting!
I am having this same issue, unable to chamber my 10 round mag without extreme excessive force. Is this a break in period? Did yours get better over time?
@@permitted_277 mine has improved over time. When I remove the magazine it goes back easily. I’ll check it again this weekend by emptying the rounds, and reloading them back into the magazine without my Lula loader.
@@permitted_277 I don't see what the feed ramp has to do with the issue we're talking about. I think we're talking about the magazine spring being too tight to easily load it to full AND to then insert the full mag into the grip, where the spring must compress even more on the full mag to lock the magazine into place. This just got better for me with repeated forceful insertions of the full magazine over time, several times over a series of a few days.
My issue... even after cycling/loading some 800 rounds the 12-round mag will NOT accept 12 rounds. 11'th- round is difficult and #12 is impossible. I contacted S&W and just today another 12-round mag arrived and unfortunately it shares the same problem > > > the 12'th round will NOT go in. I 'believe' when the mag spring is compressed there simply isn't enough room for the 12'th round. Even with a mag-loader the 12-round mag will NOT accept the 12'th ... the 11'th round is barely doable. No problem with the 10-round mag. Oh, my 2.0 arrived with the front sight favoring the right side.
Sent my 1st gen Bodyguard 380 back 4 times in 9 months. They always kept it 1.5 months or more every time. Always received my return slip right after the phone call. I can't get 12 in my Mag either. It feeds everything though. Ball and defensive loads like Underwood defender and penetrator all run. I'm waiting for an aftermarket recoil spring. Hope someone makes one soon.
I own a Model 28 Highway Patrol, second firearm I owned after a JC Higgins bolt action 22. The Model 28 was a high school graduation gift from my parents. After letting the 12 round mag sit for a month with 11 rounds in it I had to fix the red plastic part so it would feed. Now it holds 12 rounds and functions as it should. I haven't tried puching the rear sight yet, that is the next fix.
Mine came with the front sight installed backwards. S&W had me send the gun back to have that swapped around and check the gun over top to bottom. Love the gun, but oof... that's a pretty big mistake to let leave the factory. If you're really test firing the gun, you should notice the lack of a glowing front sight. Anyways... no failures other than failing to hold open on last round. That could be my hand placement, but every time I've pulled the trigger it's gone BOOM and been ready for the next round.
Truth be told, I don't think that S&W is test firing the guns at the factory. The 43c that I bought in April did not fire on 2/8 of the chambers, which would have been seen if they tested it.
The QC has definitely gone down with S&W. I got a full size M&P 9 recently and on the second mag the trigger went dead. I had to send it back for repair
Wow...my 2.0 Compact can't get enough ammo. 4000 thru it with one stove pipe today..The gun needed its 500 round cleaning. SW has been solid for me. I also have the FCP 9mm Carbine which is just flawless. Peace Peace
This may not work for your mag.. BUT I also could not get the last round in the 12rd mag. With 11 rounds in I took a bic pen and pushed down on the last round, depressing it as far as I could and BAM now I can load it fully by hand (its still pretty stiff, but no longer inpossible). Ymmv
It sounds like the magazine may not have been fully compressed at the bottom, or was having trouble seating onto the rails in the bottom of the mag. That extra pressure seemed to work on yours, which makes sense. For me, I tried everything, and just ended up trimming the spring down a little. I cover it in another video on the channel. Magazine has been 100% reliable, and holds 12 rounds now.
I just checked my bodyguard 2.0 the W was always inside the slide. Sorry, you having issues with yours, but mine runs flawlessly Even the extra two 12 round magazines I paid for.
It's got to be a quality control thing. I just got mine and 1 I have A LOT of FTF until I get to 5 rounds in the magazine. At that point if feeds the last 5 perfectly. 2 my 12 Rd mag holds 11 and my 10 round mag holds 9. They still will not seat properly so it's more like 10 and 8 if I want them to function like they should
I have a BG 2.0, Shield Plus, 3.6 2.0 compact and a Sport III rifle, the pistols have been great but the rifle is still unproven as I just got it. I hope you don’t encounter anymore problems!
My bodyguard does have the MIM ledge, but so far no feed issues. Knock on wood. I've been using Underwood XD in it, which many testers have had issues with that round in the BG 2.0. I have experienced difficulty reinserting the recoil spring. On my pistol, the front end of the recoil spring tends to almost escape the recoil guide. It gets caught on the retention disk, preventing the spring from compressing. When that happens, I use a small screwdriver to tuck the end down behind the retainer, and then I can reassemble as normal.
I sent back a new 38 because it looked like someone threw it across the parking lot before they blued it & they didn't write one word on the repair form.
To disassemble the slide completely and take the back plate off you must take off the rear sight. I used my sight pusher and still needed to put an extension on that to get it off. Thank you for the honest review.
I have a feeling the mag spring itself isn't nesting as designed. Either its not seating in the correct place or it has a defect from manufacturing or assembly. Also: Model 28!
Thanks for watching all of the way through! I'll rip the mag apart this weekend, to see what's up with it. I would not be surprised if it was assembled improperly from the factory, or was made with some defective issue.
I had to send a new bodyguard 1 I purchased in June 24. The magazine dropped out when I shot it, the slide didn’t lock all the way and when I ejected the empty magazine the slide released forward. They had it 6 weeks. Works sometimes now, not really perfect by any stretch. Every American item I have purchased by several companies has required a send back of refund. I think S&W quality is about like Taurus now. I’m done with them. Some guns are ok but I must have bad luck.
Mine is a jam-o-matic. Every brand/type ammo I try fails to feed. My 12-round magazine only holds 11 rounds, and my rear sight is not centered which results in it not shooting at point of aim.. my Glock 42 is head and shoulders above this gun. Going to contact smith and wesson this week and see about returning it for service. Not real happy with this gun.
Yeah, it's really a shame how hard S&W dropped the ball here. I really dig the G42, and truth be told, I much prefer the shooting characteristics of that gun.
Don’t know why anyone would be upset with your review. I just got a BG 2.0 and have experienced a couple of issues as well. There are too many people with the same issues for it not to be QC. It’s a new gun, we bought early. Stuff happens on new guns. It is worth dealing with these issues. The gun is just that good! It is a master piece of ergonomics. A gun this small that I can get my pinky on is remarkable. Low bore axis makes it shoot amazing.
I appreciate the kind words. Sure, if I was the only person having issues, that would be suspect. However, it seems like all of the guns are having some flavor of problem, and a lot of folks are having multiple issues at the same time. I bought it to test, and I'm going to keep doing that, as the gun is an advancement in ergonomics.
Most of the guns I own are S&W. I sure hope they don't turn into a crappy manufacturer. With all the competition out there, they should be No.-1 in customer service.
You'd hope, but they've been letting me down a lot over the last few years. I really hope that it turns around, but the company is only as good as the stuff that they are currently making, and the current stuff is pretty prone to problems.
Highway Patrolman - Smith & Wesson Model 28. Great video, and I'm hopeful that they have resolved all the guns issues. I got to see one for the first time today and am very impressed with everything I say. It's on my high priority list.
Same issues as others. Front sight off, 12 round magazine barely fits 11. Shot multiple brands of ammo, only issue was Critical Defense. Everything else fired away.
It appears that the s&w bg 2.0 has been a great success i understand they are back ordered. I have a g42 with a pierce +1 extension for a total of 8 rounds. I have shot it enough to trust this combination. The grip extension gives the gun much better purchase. Glock is a combat weapon they are extremely reliable although you must remember with these small guns to grip them firmly because of the light weight and low recoil it is easy to limp wrist them. I belive i will keep my g42 and pass on the 2.0.
New to firearms, I've noticed many shill channels, and overly loyal, blindly nationalistic fanboys for domestic gun companies. I was commenting on the Glockness of the new Ruger RXM, and was getting hate for it. Thanks for the honest review.
I've worked in firearm media since 2018, mostly on the written side. I have seen so much blatant shilling, paid advertisements masquerading as unbiased reviews, and blind loyalty to companies that have serious issues. It's made me quite cynical with the media side of things, as it's hard for someone (especially someone who is new to firearms) to find an unbiased, or relatively objective review. There are guns & gun related things that I like, enjoy, and use. However, that's tempered by how well they work. If "X" brand that I liked went to trash, I'd stop supporting them and go elsewhere. Unfortunately, that's where I am with S&W these days. Yeah, the RXM is literally just a generation 3 Glock, but using an FCU chassis like a SIG P320 or Steyr M9. I don't know why folks with give you hate for calling a duck a duck there. Thanks for the kind words!
I have had issues with all of the premier brands including s&w. It's the state of affairs with all companies. Bought a Beretta that was so out of spec they offered me any other gun I wished. Such things have become the norm. I'm 70 years old so I know how it used to be.
That report is so vague... Maybe they just hand sanded your pistol pistol sight slot. The feed ramp looks good on both the frame and barrel so that's good. I dont know man. I dont want to buy a pistol with questionable QC. For us is the pistol is faulty we have a huge problem because you can only have one section 13 weapon (self defense) and if it has it to sent back to someone to be worked on you are basically defenseless for that time. Now if the pistol has to be replaced it is an absolute nightmare of legalities and paperwork and that could leave you without a pistol for months. Better just get myself a "Highway Patrolman" to be on the safe side! 😁Have a great one man!
Honestly, I hadn't thought about that Johan. If you live in a place that restricts the quantity of guns that you can own, (like you, and a lot of other folks do), having to send the gun back to warranty work would be a miserable thing. As always, I appreciate you, your presence, and your comments. Thanks for watching and commenting Johan! Have a great day/weekend! Tim, Jim and I are meeting up for another live show next week too, so be on the lookout for that!
@@Paul_Whaley Yes sir. That would instantly make you the guy who needs to bring a knife to a gun fight haha! Thank you for your kind words man! Stay awesome Paul! Will do! Take care bro!
Great video. I bought 2 of these. No problems with feeding after polishing the feed ramps. Both will eat anything I have put through them. One of the recoil assemblies was slightly bent and the spring hung up trying to reassemble the fire arm. Called smith a month ago and still have not received the new assembly. Other than that both very reliable. Thanks.
It's a shame that they're taking so long to get you that new assembly. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't making spares right now, and are just rushing out new guns.
It takes considerable pressure to get 12 rounds into the magazine and the fully loaded 12 round mag into the gun. It can be done. The more the pistol is used the easier it gets. Mine shot to the left so I drifted the front sight and now it shoots to center at 10 yards. That's an individual shooter thing to me, the sights were centered from the factory. It has fed everything aside from the Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics hollowpoints with very jaggery noses. I had a Glock 42 previously, this S&W is much superior.
I've done a ton of compression cycles on the magazine, and it's not getting any easier. I've ordered a new 12 round magazine, and will compare them down the line.
I found another issue with mine. If I put a single round in the chamber and release the slide, it won't go fully into battery. I've never had that issue with a pistol.
Semi auto pistols are not designed to be loaded anyway other than through the magazine. Some will load the way you're attempting, but it will damage your extractor causing malfunctions if done repeatedly!
Great video! One problem I have seen on a few of our students Bodyguard 2.0 is an almost impossible to operate safety. such a problem I made a video on my Chanel on how to deal with it and how to fix the issue without having to send the gun back to S&W. Otherwise I love that new little pistol!!!
Yeah, I've only heard negative things about the safety on the BG 2.0. I've yet to see one in person, but it sure looks a lot like the safety on the Shield, which is pretty meh. Thanks for doing a video on how to fix it! For the average person, needing to ship a gun back to the manufacturer for RMA work is a difficult process, so being able to fix things without needing to do that is certainly good to see.
It gets a little easier with a lot of flipping- still very tight and positive- that’s kinda what I want for this gun since it’s pointed at my junk all day. I have had other cc guns have the mag dropped or the safety disengaged just from carrying them but this model is tight- one of the few striker fired pieces that I’m comfortable cc. Normally I prefer sa/da hammer fired guns for chambered EDC
I have not seen your how to fix video. I followed someone else’s advice and sat and worked the safety 100 times to “break it in”. At 100 it was about right, and after about 10 more it broke and would not stay on or off. I would not recommend this particular “fix”. 8 weeks to get it back from the factory.
I bought a mp22 compact and insta failure after 1 shot. Luckily the place i buy from takes care of everything up to a year after purchase. Got it back and no problem so far but yes QC is 💯 garbage anymore
I xpect proper QC! IF they fail, in that regard, I xpect ALL of my reported issues to be DOCUMENTED, with corrective action taken, on the return paperwork! S&W's crushinit, in terms of product development, and they're givin tha ppl what they want, but they're slippin in QC/Customer Service, which gives me pause, as I'm not yet a #SmithWesson customer...
Your BG2 experience is disappointing for sure. Our family owns three that are early builds... based on when they were purchased as I don't know if manufacture dates are known without looking up the serial #, and all work flawlessly. I've learned of the feed ramp "ledge" hang-ups but field stripped mine and it's non existent. I did have to drift sights on all three though as they did shoot left ~2-3" @ 10yds. I was able to drift both the front/rear of them all a tad in an effort to keep sights as centered as possible and still achieve zeroed POA/POI. Magazines are all good too, tight but able to load to capacity with all now without help from a MagLula... same with the extra's we purchased.. Good luck going forward.
Thanks for the feedback! These guns were certainly a mixed bag when it comes to each specimen. Some worked mostly great out of box, and some had a lot of issues. I think that the POI/POA issue is one part sight related, and one part barrel lockup related. On my gun, the lockup certainly favors one side of the slide more than the other (noticeable uneven wear on the front of the barrel where it mates with the slide). I'm not saying that it's a widespread thing, but at least on my gun, I think it was a compounding factor. I ordered more magazines + a holster for the gun last night. Fingers crossed that I can get 12 rounds in the 12 rounder. I've got a good amount of physical strength, but even with compression cycles of the mag, plus a magazine loader, I cannot get a 12th round into that mag. I've currently got the 11 rounds in that mag, plus it sitting in the gun, so that the slide is applying a little more force downward. I'll try again soon, but my concern really is that even with 12 in the mag, I don't see a way for the magazine to insert on a closed slide. Thanks for commenting!
@@Paul_Whaley Interesting, I'll look into how they lock up as I never thought of that... thanks. Something to try with your mag's is disassemble them, remove the follower, slightly torque the spring by giving them a gentle back and forth twist a few times, then reassemble and load. I did this with a couple P365 12 round mags that wouldn't allow a 12th round and it fixed the issue. I can't explain why.
I have a 2.0. It runs great. Yes its hard to full load the mags. Its very accurate. Over 400 rounds of misc fmj. Not one failure. If you dont like your Body guard 2.0, sell it. Go buy something easier to rack and easy to load. I have one. I would buy another without reservation.
Barry, I talk about why I'm not selling the gun in the second half of the video. I test guns for a website, and this is one that I want to test. The gun isn't the easiest to rack the slide on, but it's not killing my desire to test it due to that. The thing that is hurting my desire with the gun are all of the issues that I've had with it, and the need for it to go back to S&W to get fixed . I'm at 3/3 guns bought from S&W this year with massive defects, 2 of which had to head home to get fixed. S&W is less of a gun company these days, and more of a lemon factory.
Get a new mag loader. I bought a 3D printed one off ebay for $13. It actually says Bodyguard 2.0 on it. It works great. I was able to get all 12 rounds in. I'd be surprised if you have a defective magazine. Buy another magazine and see if you have the same results.
So, I'm currently using a Maglula, which is going to be the best loader for pistol mags on the market. Something that is 3D printed will not do a job better than this. After the poor QC that I've had on all 3 of the new S&W guns that I've bought this year, I think that a defect in the magazine is certainly in the world of possibilities. I've got another 12 round magazine on the way, but I think I'll be cutting down the current magazine spring in the interim. Between the strange design of the spring, coupled with how it interacts with the bottom of the magazine, I wouldn't be surprised if that fixed the issue. Factoring in the length of the legs on the follower too, I wouldn't be shocked if there was something wrong with the magazine.
@@Paul_Whaley I don't know because Maglula would be a universal one, and the one I purchased has the word Bodyguard 2.0 3D printed into the side of it with raised font. It was specifically 3D printed & designed for the Bodyguard 2.0, and not a universal one that can fit the Bodyguard 2.0. There is no way I could get 12 rounds into my BG 2.0 Mag without that loader, and it is still challenging with the loader.
It's really a shame, as this would be a knockout gun if S&W could make them to a consistent level of quality control. It's really a roll of the dice on these guns right now.
If you would hold items you are showing ( paperwork and loading ramp ) it would be easier to watch. I stopped watching there was to much jumping around.
Within the first minute he says it's an oddball thing that they manufactured the gun in TN and their repair center is in MA. If that's something he brings up I realized it's a waste of time to watch any more of the video.
Waste of time how? To point out that they aren't fixing the guns where they make them? I find it fairly odd that they aren't repairing the guns where they produce them.
@@Paul_Whaley Why???? Do you think the same people that make the gun would also repair it? Do you think they'd stop production to send workers over to the work bench to look at a repair? Do you think they'd even know what they are looking for? Not even a really small gun manufacturer with few employees would have a gunsmith making gun parts or a machinist trying to repair a gun...
@@parsleyfarm328 S&W has made a big deal about moving out of the Northeastern US, and moving to the South for "better gun laws". They list on their 2021 announcement that all of their pistols will be assembled in TN, and that revolvers would still be made in MA. They closed down to facilities that made parts, in MO and CT, and moved their HQ from MA to TN. Yes, I do find it quite odd that they would not repair the BG 2.0 in the big facility that makes them. Obviously I do not think that the employees running the machine production line would also be the ones fixing the guns. Hell, I'd certainly hope not, after how my gun initially left TN. I'd fully expect them to have dedicated RMA staff there to work on the guns. The CS staff that I spoke with was located in TN, so it's only natural that I'd expect their RMA staff to be there too.
I've got 5 Glocks. It's just a matter that as someone who tests guns for (part) of a living, I'd be remiss to not test the biggest release of the year.
Wait a minute how can this be true, all the big Gun Tubers said it was flawless and the greatest invention since the wheel. This is killing my faith in YT reviews!
Bwahahaha
Maybe.... next year, I'll consider buying this gun !
I contacted S&W concerning the recoil spring assembly issue about 3 weeks ago. The person I was dealing with
was very pleasant (no attitude) and said they were aware of the issue and would get me a new part out as soon as they were back in stock. Today
(11/12) it came in the mail and unfortunately it was worse than the original unit.
When 3rd round will not load, depress it's front half - that gets it past the follower sticking on the mag indent.
There’s a fix for the mag issue on RUclips, but I contacted them and they sent me a new mag. They new one does not have the loading issue.
So what similar gun would you recommend? I am just now shopping.
@ Thank you for the feedback. What have you found is reliable in 9 mm that could be concealed carry?
@ Awesome… very helpful.
My BG 2.0 came out of the box needing an alignment. The slide rails crooked. The back rails seemed okay but the front rails were sitting lower in the frame and canted off to the right. S&W sent a shipping label after my fist email. Hopefully it won't take them too long to get that straightened out.
That's actually insane that there was an issue as severe as that. Finger crossed that they get the issue rectified fast.
@Paul_Whaley their email said repairs are currently taking 4-6 weeks. It's only been 3 weeks so far. Maybe it'll be ready by Christmas 🤞
Got it back. No repairs were made. I guess I'll go visit my lgs and see if he can get S&W fix it or swap it out.
@@russellpilot1875 Man, what a joke of a company. Hopefully your LGS can work something out with it, it's a shameful display on S&W's behalf.
@@Paul_Whaley Well? I guess that's understandable, since they've only been makin firearms, since 1852...
A link to that article is here: www.primerpeak.com/pocket-pistol-roundup-round-2-2024/
Thanks for commenting, and thanks for getting to the Easter Egg in the video!
Same here. With a laser on my Max I’m letting the 2.0 sit
Sorry to hear about all these problems...my 2.0 has been a snappy little beast with zero issues. In NJ, so just running 10 rd mags. Great gun.
I HAVE ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS. The gun is practically useless as it stands. and it catastrophically fails with any flat face ammo.
I have the same issue. @@Paul_Whaley
Oof, that's a shame. I'm going to tinker with my 12 rounder to see if I can get them working, but we'll see. Thanks for commenting!
@Paul_Whaley I did a little modification to the followers which helped. Also tried clipping off one coil from the spring which also helped. Smith sent me new followers and springs to try. The followers were the same but the springs were different.
Clue to fixing the 12 rounders and 10 for that matter the followers are bottoming.
@@KBMC4 Actually they were not, the springs were binding on themselves and also on the follower legs.
It really is a messy process with this gun.
@@LarryGanz is there anything I can do to expedite this process ? I’m wondering if it’s a magazine issue or if I need the feed ramp to be polished
Mine didn’t have the MIM ledge, and shot great. But they forgot to install one of the rear frame coin pin
Thanks for the info! The "S&W Experience" certainly seems to be different from gun to gun, and person to person.
The only issue I have is that the front site is not centered.
What a shame. It pains me, as I really want to see the brand make a comeback, but that ain't gonna happen when the QC sucks.
Fingers crossed that my BG 2.0 is working better after a trip to the factory!
Had to go to ball ammo only. I like Underwood Xtreme Defender but can't use. Actually jammed the gun. Crushed the case getting the gun apart.
They cant do anything about the 12 rpund magazine its just to tight
Truth be told, I think that Taurus does a lot better for the money than S&W does. It's really a shame. Thanks for commenting!
Buy the Hilljak QL380M. It works wonders for getting that 12th round in the mag, and works on both the S&W BG 2.0 and the Ruger LCP Max.
Glad I saw this, another thing to look for. Still planning to buy, had seen previous videos where the sights were off but otherwise great reviews.
Highway Patrolman - Smith & Wesson Model 28. Great video, and I'm hopeful that they have resolved all the guns issues. I got to see one for the first time today and am very impressed with everything I say. It's on my high priority list.
Well, live fire testing will show if their effort to fix it actually works. Thanks for commenting!
Same issues as others. Front sight off, 12 round magazine barely fits 11. Shot multiple brands of ammo, only issue was Critical Defense. Everything else fired away.
It's a shame that they cannot consistently make these guns work. Thanks for commenting Eric!
Glock 42 is a great gun, and I'm not letting mine go anywhere. Thanks for commenting!
S&W model 28 was the highway patrolmen pistol
Other than the front sight way off center, mine has been flawless and accurate- only 300 rds through it though
You should make them fix the mag issue.
@@Paul_Whaley Thank you for the great videos!
I have had issues with all of the premier brands including s&w. It's the state of affairs with all companies. Bought a Beretta that was so out of spec they offered me any other gun I wished. Such things have become the norm. I'm 70 years old so I know how it used to be.
Mine was sent back for failure to feed with 3 different brands of ammo. Got it back and guess what, fails to feed.
What a shame. Sorry to hear that David.
Highway Patrolman Model 27 I think
Close, it's the Model 28!
so good with numbers...

Newest hot guns are good to buy…a year-year & 1/2 after it is released. That’s what I do & any kinks are worked out by that time. Takem easy.
I bought a mp22 compact and insta failure after 1 shot. Luckily the place i buy from takes care of everything up to a year after purchase. Got it back and no problem so far but yes QC is 💯 garbage anymore
It's really a shame with how bad QC has gotten across the board.
Never had a problem with mine 😊
same issues, besides reliability
That "W" is actually an "M". It stands for Maryville, TN.
Yeah, it's kind of shocking that they didn't actually put any real detail into what they did with the gun. Very messy in that regard.
I bought two. I have the same issues on the sights. Horrible quality control. The must have hired Boeing quality control guys.
Yeah, it's really shocking how poorly S&W handled the BG 2.0 release this year.
Close up of what they did would have been helpful
@@Paul_Whaley
Interesting, I'll look into how they lock up as I never thought of that...
@@1776REIGNS I'll give that a try. There's always a possibility that the mag spring is bound up internally.
Model 28 Highway Patrol
Thanks for watching till the end!
Thanks for the video
I’m not buying one until this gets sorted out
It's really a shame, as this would be a knockout gun if S&W could make them to a consistent level of quality control. It's really a roll of the dice on these guns right now.
W marks guns made in Tennessee
We’ll call them and ask what they did.
👍
A new gun facility in Massachusetts?? One of the most anti-gun states…. hmmmm I doubt that
Glock is king!
If you would hold items you are showing ( paperwork and loading ramp ) it would be easier to watch. I stopped watching there was to much jumping around.
Get rid of that junk and buy a LCP max
I've already got one, and have been testing it since May.
The CS staff that I spoke with was located in TN, so it's only natural that I'd expect their RMA staff to be there too.
get a glock smith are junk
I've got 5 Glocks. It's just a matter that as someone who tests guns for (part) of a living, I'd be remiss to not test the biggest release of the year.
Maybe if Glock had a micro compact 380 with 10+ capacity…
