I do believe Charles was emotional throughout. He may have appeared unfeeling but I believe he was trying to keep himself in check. He truly loves his son, and hearing those words, of course it moved him.

Whilst it is a very touching part of the ceremony, and both of them were visibly (and genuinely) emotional about it (as you would expect), the kissing of the cheek is actually an official part of the ceremony.

@@madinavinodh6142 That was 20 years before I was born, but it stood out to me in the Crown, and I looked up the original story of Elizabeths' coronation event and all that went into it, particularly for Phillip.
I just watched a documentary on her coronation too.
It's all part of it, and always has been. The only reason it was just William is because he was the only Royal Duke paying homage this time.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen legitimate emotions play across Charles’ face. And though this is part of the ceremony it seemed as though he was truly touched by his oldest child kissing him. It made him seem more human. 💕😊

I found it so sweet that King Charles looked at William and said thank you, William, and you know it was heartfelt for both of them. I’m happy that Prince Harry was there too. I don’t care what naysayers and haters have to say. Because they weren’t there so they don’t know the exact details of what’s going on. As if they knew everything personally. What is known is there Chelsea, bitterness and envious over this little family trying to just be… a family. All families have their squabbles with parents and siblungs. All families have their joys, their sorrows, their deaths and births. Even with this Princess Diana would have been SO PROUD of both her sons. Ok, after watching again, I see he was reading the pledge and thus looking off to the side where it was held up for him. This he should have memorized in my humble, non-royal opinion. It was a nerve-wracking day though, so, I guess it was the best thing to do.

Being crowned would definitely trigger feelings of loss and memory of his mother in this case. My own relationship with my father was rather rocky at times, but being reminded he is gone still hurts.
