My grandparents, aunts & uncles made Christmas special for me & I believed until 9 years old-an age where everything in life became disillusioned for me…I saw presents in the back of my grandmas car trunk the night before Christmas while she was on us to bake cookies & milk for Santa🎅🏿 however the holiday's have not been the same since my grandparents passed…now I’m less on Christmas & more into Thanksgiving just to carry the tradition of being grateful & of service- but as a millennial I’m at the age where I feel it’s my duty to create new family memories.
Prof. Hunter, you are not alone...I'm bah humbugish as well. I think losing both sets of grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles has changed the way I want to "do" holidays. Rod had me cracking up at not letting the adults know that the Santa myth was blown up. Supposed to be asleep but meddling out the window, I busted Grandma & my dad bringing presents in. I might have been 8 or 9 and already skeptical. Sis & I decided to let them believe we believed to keep the goodies flowing. I let my kids know early on that none of the fictional folk were real and swore them to secrecy. Happy Holidays to all of you!
The Santa tracker been around for a while. NORAD (the US Air Force) has been doing this since 1955. I'm 50 years old and I remember seeing this as a kid every place we lived(my dad was in the Air Force so we moved a lot). I love the Santa tracker. I actually saw it last night and told my mom Santa is over Ghana...lol.
Karen Hunter, I still keep the spirit of St.Nick alive during the holiday season. There are people who still allow that inner child to come out and play during a festive time of year. 🎅 🧑🎄 🤶🎄 🎁
Hard this year. Dad passed away last year. So, my mom is not really feeling it. But we are together! Hanging tough! But we have a lot of good memories from years passed.
My parents let me know early on that they were the ones buying me the gifts. It helped me appreciate them more and understand if they couldn't get me everything I wanted. It also made me when I got older and got my first job to look out for my family on Christmas and pay the kindness forward to others. 0:16
Both of my parents are deceased. However, early this morning as I reflected on my blessings, I thought of the Easy Bake Oven that I first learned how to cook on. Also, when my niece was much younger, I bought her, her own Eady Bake Oven and a child size table which she learned how to cook for my nephew. These now grown young adults, at the most recent family reunion when discussing their memories started a debate in front of those in attendance regarding who owns the child size table which was housed in my sister’s home. This discussion brought me joy.
My parents didn't tell us that "story" about Santa! Lol 🤣 I wanted to believe, but that was dashed completely one night when my brother and I stayed up and saw our parents wrapping and putting together our toys! 😂😂😂
I remember when I started really questioning my mother about Santa Claus, her saying “Do you really want to know the truth?” and I said some version of no so I could keep sort of believing one more year. 😊 I guess she played that well enough. It was never as fun once we knew, but I am blessed to have a lot of fun extended family memories!
Hey, Rod and Karen. And Schmitz! Happy Holidays! 💙🎄. Karen! My grandparents knew how to hook up a horse to a buckboard! My guess is your great grandparents did, too! I don’t have a clue how to do that! Times change and it’s just fine! 😂. Love ya!
I had the same type of traditional Christmas as your family did Karen! We put up the tree the day after Thanksgiving, My Mom would take each of us three kids seperately to either Zayre's or Gold Circle department store to buy Christmas gifts and then Granny would take us together to buy Mom's, We all would go downtown to look at the window displays at O'Neils and Macy's and then drive back to our neighborhood and slowly ride down the street looking at all the christmas lights, we baked christmas cookies then wrapped gifts on Christmas eve and Mom made hot chocolate and marshmallows, we even put the cookies out for Santa( we never put out the milk though....), I remember the house smelled so good the next morning because Dad either cooked sausage biscuits and gravy or pancakes and bacon, I remember we each got a stocking full of candy plus all our gifts, I remember granny and granddad coming over later and getting extra gifts, and then a big and I mean big Christmas dinner. Now that I am older, the holidays really hurt. Granny and Granddad are gone, Dad has dementia and can't remember, Mom's been gone since 2001, older brother gone since 2006, younger brother lives miles away and both my niece and nephew are grown. Sorry, I didn't mean for this post to be so long. I guess I had to say out loud how much I miss my family to the point that I can't bare to celebrate it without them. I miss them so much. Happy Holidays to you and Roderick and both your families.
Ok.... I figured out that there was no Santa Claus because we lived in a black neighborhood with no white people and I asked my mother "why is it ok for a white man to break into our house and bring me the presents. Isn't that illegal?"
Me and my GF were hosting some of my family and some of hers. The kids on her side wanted to watch Transformers (I was surprised too), but when some of the older family members on my side got there I was like "Sorry we're putting on the yule log now"
The Yule Log ain't the same one that we watched, Karen. Into my 20's, I would don my new pajamas and sit in the family living room, often alone, and watch the Yule Log on channel 11 as I sipped eggnog! Yeah, I was born in 1964, so...
Happy Holidays, my mom passed away in 2004. However, she stopped getting me toys when I turned 13 years old. But I knew there was no Santa Claus because they were the ones buying the gifts and toys. But my mom will always cook on Thanksgiving and Christmas and for the New Year. I guess I stopped believing in Santa at that age.
Stop believing in Santa at 10. Stopped believing in God at 30. Stopped believing in the US government this year at 35. Wonder what other myths will fall.
I am embarrassed to say . I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was 13 years old. I found out by accident. My mother used to take 2 shopping bags down south around Christmas. I used to assumed that they were gifts for my aunts ,uncles and my cousins . It never touched my consciousness that it would include my present or an age appropriate toy supposed to be from Santa. Well I created a candle set for her. I pull down one of those bags to place my Christmas gift for her and I found out her 13 years old secret and she wasn't happy about it. I thought that I was going to get a beaten. After that I started to question her integrity and that hurt me very much. So I told my daughter the truth and my mother didn't like that either. I never believed in the Easter bunny.
that is nothing to be embarrassed about...it means your innocence was kept in tact for a long time and that's beautiful. You have your whole life to live in reality and the harshness of the world. Hold on to joy and fancy as long as you can!
The Santa clause makes it difficult for many ....Essence of Christmas as presnted in Matthew is the coalescent of all sentiments not just happiness. Religious syncretism is what makes hard for anyone

Merry Christmas! My mommy and daddy have both passed away so I cherish all of the childhood memories of Christmas.

My mother never let me believe in Santa. She said she worked too hard to buy my gifts.. however we did watch all the shows when l was growing up..

Rock-em Sock-em and Etch-a-Sketch ABSOLUTELY, no matter WHO brought it !!!
This applies to so many areas in life. What we fight to believe in knowing otherwise

Merry Christmas and Happy Kwanzaa to you lovely people. We're grateful for you.
Merry Christmas Professor Hunter and Rod
Happy Festivus for the rest of us!

Happy Holidays 🎄 Karen & Rod ⛄.
thank you! Blessings.
My Dad taught my brother I there was no such thing as Santa Claus. He didn't want us to believe the lie. It didn't bother us at all to know the truth.
Was your dad a consistent part in your life ?
@sjones2195 Yes , I was blessed. He transitioned in October 💔 R. I .P🕊

I remember when tv stations had an expiration at the end of the day. I miss that. Also, channels being free. lol
I also faked believing in Santa until I was 11. One year I caught my stepdad eating the food we left out for Santa, but he did not see me.
I asked my mom if there was a Santa Clause and she told me the truth. I was six years old.
Me and my GF were hosting some of my family and some of hers. The kids on her side wanted to watch Transformers (I was surprised too), but when some of the older family members on my side got there I was like "Sorry we're putting on the yule log now"
Hello Professor Hunter, Roderick and commenters.

Great point. Unfortunately, I was too young to make the leap, lol. Noooowww, I see the light. 😂
Watching my Momma struggle and sacrifice to put "My Wishlist" on layaway and pay it off before Christmas... Reality hits early for some
Thank you for being on. You are a thousand times better than Santa fake clause.
I haven't indulged in the commercialization and capitalism of Christmas for over 30 yrs. Right ain't no white bought a gift in this house 😂😂😂

I was 10 when my mom told me there’s no such thing as Santa Claus. That’s was alright. There’s a Yule Log on RUclips.
I like it, learn healthy Sceptism in a "safe" space. And how to play the game of "compliance" and then the Right of Passage is knowing the Truth
❤❤❤❤❤
The closet session was a lesson in Play your roll, Do your job
Smiz is Not alone, the Yule log with the music Xmas Playlist and we don't have a fireplace and byvthe way ktla yule log is a thing
There’s a Yule Log on the internet.
KTLA still shows the log!

Yes! The yule log is still aflame 🔥 and the national anthem flag wave ia still wavin
The story never made sense to me. I couldn't figure it out until I was older. I never really believed in Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy.
I am first happ christmas
Wait, Santa isn’t real?
The Santa clause makes it difficult for many ....Essence of Christmas as presnted in Matthew is the coalescent of all sentiments not just happiness.
Religious syncretism is what makes hard for anyone
I hope people give young people stocks and bonds instead of gifts.
