The man who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The man who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been before.
I think honestly Social Media has actually divided us more than brought us together. And due to that fact people feel the freedom to hide behind their devices and spew negativity and influence those who don’t know better.
Jingle Jangle is everything. I love it. The thing I get nostalgic over is The Jackson 5 Christmas album. My mom played it for me, and I play it for my kids. All of them are grown and on their own. Before the end of today, we will listen to it. Happy Holidays, Karen.
Jingle Jangle is the first movie I watch every year during the holidays. It’s joy, soul, warmth, wonder, even with Jeronicus’s grinchy demeanor. Soundtrack on repeat for over a month each year. 😆😆😆 Also, started listening this for Karen, but it turns out Rod is the older brother I never had.
Roderick’s break down of the Grinch who stole Christmas reminds me of my breakdown of it when I was 6 yrs old talking with my aunt during Christmas. 😅😂🤣🤦🏾♂️
I'm in my mid 70's now. One of my favorite Christmas movie memories was an an ABC Stage 67 tv production of Truman Capote's short story A Christmas Memory. Starring actress Gerald Page who won an Emmy award for it. It's hard to find and the age of your audience and maybe social media nature and demographic would probably find it slow. It was about a young boy who spends Christmas with his aunts in the rural south during the depression. It's one of those productions that moves beyond the question of black or white. It's about memory, beauty in simple things, what's lost, and what it means to be human, and renewal. I saw it when I was 16 and it stuck with me all these. I finally found a copy on DVD about 12 years ago. I still will watch it aling with other movies. As an African-American male it resonated with the experience of Christmas growing up as a kid and the things of what one has to leave behind and carry.
Lol. I can't with ya'll......I love the creative sparks between you two! It inspires me to find my Rodrick or my Karen. Christmas joy was more musical than tv ( A Charlie Brown Christmas) christmas Albums by The Supremes, James Brown & The Jackson 5 Lastly the Christmas spirit no longer exists in Santa. After the 90's we knew too much about White Jesus, the real St Nicholas, the real Jesus, and other truths so Santa had to go . Then the commercialization went off the hook so parents got real with kids. Kids are too smart to go for what we went for. Its a good thing.... Great segment.
Karen Hunter, I've always been fond of the big screen flick "Die Hard" that most people don't consider to be a Christmas movie that was released back in 1988.
I'm watching it on TV now. I'm living in Vienna, Austria right now, so it's in German, which unfortunately I don't speak very well lol. I love the Charlie Brown holiday specials for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Love that music! Charlie Brown and Schroeder were some jazzy, funky little dudes!
I told my grands, Rudolph was a movie to show you how people treat others that are different! I also said, just because you look different or have different speech plus you are still worthy of being here and can contribute to the world.
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you at least had a Black version of the book ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas with at least a Black family, if not Black Santa. Seems like some publisher would at least see the market for that. I really like watching the Christmas episodes of old sitcoms from the 70s. A few years ago I found a neat episode of the Jeffersons where George does something very generous for someone but doesn’t want anyone to know about it. It was sweet! I would’ve linked it, but it doesn’t seem to be one of the ones currently available on RUclips.
Whoville always confused me a little bit because, Horton's Whoville (book: "Horton Hears a Who") was on a dust speck. So was the Grinch's world on a dust speck as well, or is this a different Whoville?
When the Grinch realized that the village of Whoville still had joy even after he took everything they had; the Grinch gave up the Ghost of greed😅. Just maybe the Grinch realized true joy.
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was problematic in so many ways. First his father was ashamed of him and wanted him to hide who he was (stay in the closet) and Rudolph had to play the game to fit in (code switching), then big ol' bigoted Santa discriminates against him when Rudolphs' truth is revealed and later exploits him for personal gain. The message is so traumatizing for any child that feels different. I was one of them!
Santa came from a Moor Christian Bishop Saint Nicholas. Born In 280ad in what we now call Turkey. He gave up his wealth and took care of the sick, poor, and children. He was called the Saint if Sailors and Children. He was supposed to have died December 6th. The Dutch brought his story to New York, and as the years changed, Santa Clause was made from his life.
Favorite movie lately that could totally be a new Christmas movie; it’s got the kid-belief-magic theme; I think it was called “Little,” w Issa Rae. It’s got a sort of “Freaky-Friday,” like event that happens to the main character. That’s a family fun movie.
That comment was from me. The two of y’all have changed my outlook on so many things. Happy Holidays Professor Hunter and Rod!
The man who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd.
The man who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been before.
I’m surprised this wasn’t widely seen. Saw it in 2020 and thought it was fantastic. A must see!
Yes Jingle Jangle is awesome! Should be up there with The Wiz imo.
I do not celebrate Christmas, but I love Black Christmas movies from musicals to romance. Yes, I watch them out of season to decompress.
"This Christmas" (with Chris Brown) is the bomb. I even watch it during the summer
I think honestly Social Media has actually divided us more than brought us together. And due to that fact people feel the freedom to hide behind their devices and spew negativity and influence those who don’t know better.
One of the most recent Grinch movies did dabble into his origin!
I like on the Grinch movie with Jim Carrey when the cab went right by him. He said, "It's because I'm green, isn't it?!"😂😂😂
Everybody loves the Heat Miser lol! Jingle Jangle is sweet. Have a blessed day, all 🙏🏽
Ever since Jingle Jangle came out in 2020 its my only Christmas movie to watch during this time
Now Roderick got me revisiting the Grinch story.
Jingle Jangle is everything. I love it. The thing I get nostalgic over is The Jackson 5 Christmas album. My mom played it for me, and I play it for my kids. All of them are grown and on their own. Before the end of today, we will listen to it. Happy Holidays, Karen.
Listened to that album this morning! 🌲
Yes, Jingle Jangle should be a classic if it's not already. ☺️
I agree. ...i thought Rudolf and the grinch were black as a kid
Jingle Jangle is the first movie I watch every year during the holidays. It’s joy, soul, warmth, wonder, even with Jeronicus’s grinchy demeanor.

I see it every year, and yes...I tear up every year LMAOOOOOO!!!!!!! The postal lady cracks me up with her love/lust of Jeronicus, lmao.

Watched that with my kids a few years ago when it came out. I think it was Netflix. To me and my kids it caught us by surprise. It's really good.

This is a Fantastic Conversation 😊 Now I got to watch the Grinch again 😅
I have an underlying quest to determine if what I know and what I believe are the same and I often find that what I know trumps my beliefs.
When the Grinch realized that the village of Whoville still had joy even after he took everything they had; the Grinch gave up the Ghost of greed😅. Just maybe the Grinch realized true joy.
You both are correct about Whoville colonizers. See "Horton Hears A Who" and verify their relocation/occupation. 🤣

I agree! Adored this movie!
Good afternoon, I'm watching THE MADNESS with COLEMAN DOMINGO. Good so far!!

is the Grinch trying to pass?
"Miracle"...
