This is great! Please also discuss other comorbidities affecting and causing CKD not just hypertension and diabetes. Not one of the 3 nephrologists I’ve seen so far has mentioned anything about treatment or lifestyle changes. All they said was: ” Come back in a year”! Ive spent many, many hours online reading medical papers, learning about CKD trying to help myself as best as I can. You can help us a great deal, there is a lot of conflicting information out there, even from The National Kidney foundation. The non dialysis patient is ignored (I’m CKD 3/4) and there are no support groups to join like with other diseases. Something needs to be done. Thank you for caring❣️

I had a eGFR of 59. This is when my doctor decided to let me know I had Stage 3 kidney disease. I want to know why is this not addressed before it gets to this point? I took matters into my own hands. I purchased a kidney cleanse and two renal supplements from Standard Process. My last eGFR was an 84. You can improve kidney function with supplements, even in early stage 3 ckd.

My Dad kidney cancer in 2000 and had a kidney removed. After 24 years his single kidney is doing fine. In fact, his eGFR and Creatinine results (he has lab work every 6 months) have remained stable! In CKD terms, he has been at stage 3 for 24 years! Yes, you can live a normal life with one kidney!

Very informative video, Doc! Common kidney health myths include the belief that kidney disease is rare, always comes with pain, and is incurable. In reality, chronic kidney disease affects millions, often progresses silently with no symptoms until advanced stages, and can be managed or slowed down with timely intervention. Other misconceptions are that frequent urination indicates healthy kidneys, you need two kidneys to live, and kidney stones always lead to kidney disease. Consulting a kidney specialist and getting regular check-ups are crucial for separating facts from myths.

Amen ! You got it in a nutshell, Doctor. About a year ago, I self-diagnosed my CKD in my review of my annual blood work. (I have kept copies of all the test results for about the last 10 years or so. The test item that caught my attention was the eGFR calculation which indicted I am in "Stage 3a/Moderate CKD". My "old" PCP retired about a year ago and my new one, fortuitously, knows about kidney stuff. 89 years old, retired electrical engineer, I had a quadruple coronary bypass 28 years ago, and have been fighting (sort of) hypertension ever since. Prior to my retirement my work included a lot of "driving a desk" for a lot of years, which contributed to the clogged arteries and blood pressure difficulties. Anyway, my new PCP quickly convinced me that the hypertension is the "elephant in the room". The one variable I may have any specific influence over would be serum creatinine. (After taking a sip of my favorite Scotch, I speculated on whether becoming a "Trans-woman" could significantly mitigate the sex variable, and if so, what the potential improvement could be!) So - I've become more disciplined about regular exercise, and diet which I trust should not only keep away from dialysis equipment as well as please my new PCP.

My mother just got a partial kidney resection she had cancer. Thankfully they found it early but she didn’t have many issues with her kidneys prior. She was a diabetic and a smoker and she had to get lab work every three months for her diabetes doctor. Without that bloodwork quarterly she may not have noticed any changes. Her platelets were lowering and they decided to get some more testing. She found she had degenerative disc disease, pancreatitis and a kidney tumor. Advocate for yourself and get tested if you feel something isn’t right.

Most doctors don't even tell you when you have stage 2 CKD. It took me 10 years ago from stage 3 to stage 5... In my opinion I recommend you see a nutritionist because nephrologists don't teach you a thing about nutrition a natural ways to keep your kidney function in check, like exercise and diet... Seems to me all they do is wait till you're dropping dead and put you on dialysis😢
