About seven years ago i started having problems w/HBP and urinary problems. There was also associated pain in abdomen and back. But with the exception of one infection, the only one I ever had in my 65 years, no one looked at the problem as maybe kidney. I never had HBP, DIABETES or any disease related to Kidney problem. But they chalked it up to digestive issues and pretty much thought I was a complainer.
Then at age 70 my left kidney failed. So much pain! I went to my care provider and they did a CT and discovered a 7.5 cm cyst on that kidney and they sent me home with antibiotics and pain meds. The next day I went in again in worse shape. They gave me IV pain MEDS and antibiotics and sent me home. On the third day I went back and someone finally arranged to have a radiologist drain the cyst. I went to the urologist afterward and he recommended unroofing and removal of the cyst and moving the ureter as the CT showed things were pretty twisted up in there. Then strangely he didn’t pursue that even though he was enthusiastic about doing it. But the cyst came back with a vengeance. And I kept trying to get them to remove it. Six monnths later the cyst had brought the left kidney function to 0. They finally scheduled the surgery.
When you say trust your doctor, I cringe. I now have about 29% function in that kidney, so we saved that much with the surgery. And I ate mostly veggies and was careful with everything I ate. I believe if they had removed the cyst initially that would not have happened. I have never ate much red meat and still dont. I never had a high creatinine in my life until this happened at age 70. And though I have been physically active and healthy most of my life I feel my doctor let me down. I changed my insurance and now am in a different system with more care and saw a nephrologist for the first time last June, a year after my surgery. I really think the urologist did a great job, but I believe the system he works in prevented him from doing the surgery earlier. My GFR had to get in the low forty range before he did the nuclear kidney function test. I had to wait another month for my surgery. As one Urgent Care doc put it, “Your warranty is up.” He was right. When you have medicare and med advantage I think it is a limited warranty service. I haven’t lost my sense of humor through it, but I no longer trust my medical doctors like I used to.
So do I trust doctors. I am, sadly, dubious.

All major operations are subsidised and affordable thanks to socialism and medical insurance isn't cut throat yet. I've never had diabetes but had undiagnosed vesicoureteral reflux which led to reflux nephropathy. This was B/C of very neglectful parents who left me with a housekeeper when I was 8 years old while my older siblings flew the coop. My parents divorced and moved far away from each other and me. Despite getting sick a lot no one bothered to take me to a doctor. if I fell ill, Dad would stab me in the butt with a Penicillin injection if he happened to be on one of his fleeting visits from O/S where he was consolidating his dentistry empire, though he also had surgeries in NZ. It wasn't till I started my nursing course that I learned what was wrong with me (I practically diagnosed myself) during which time I was frequently hospitalized (in the same hospital I was training in) that something was done about; I had a left nephrectomy at 21. But the damage had already been done by then.
Most nephrologists don't see my kind of kidney disease often. One day mine asked me 'where were your parents?' I shrugged my shoulders and said I hardly ever saw them when I was growing up. This was after the nephologist told me I'd need dialysis, but a kidney transplant would be better he said. My sister offered me hers, but then my mother started hounding me about not wanting her other children to be less than perfect by one of them giving me one of theirs. I told my nephrologist, and he remarked 'your mother's a narcissist, don't talk to her.' Both my parents are dead now and sadly I've never shed a tear for either of them since then. I will never forgive them for how they treated me putting me through so much pain, suffering and heartache for much of my life. When you're ill, you can get through most things with a loving family around you. I got through it but it's still a work in progress and it's made me mentally unwell at times with suicidal ideation. Yet I've survived legionnaires disease, sepsis and other medical emergencies. I went on to finish my RN training and worked as a nurse for over 30 years, I also managed to train a martial art for many years, getting my 1st dan in Japan. I'm rightly proud of myself.
I can appreciate people searching for an answer to stop your kidney function deteriorating even further; I drank really expensive organic blueberry juice, got specially made alkaline water to drink which turned out to be a pyramid scheme of some sort; people preying on the vulnerable again.
The lesson I've learned in life, is to trust no one except yourself. This has made me very resilient, strong, determined and resourceful. People might find that sad, but I don't. It pleases me no end, so long as I can keep out of hospital and as well as I can.

@@nadineyturraspe1981 Thank you for your kind words. It has been a struggle for sure. What I've learnt in my 64 years is that you can overcome almost anything with unconditional love and support, neither of which I have ever experienced. It's actually kind of weird because the sicker I am the meaner my family gets, particularly my sister. What's also weird is why I deserve this treatment. What's in my nature that brings out the worst in people. Perhaps a philosopher or a psychiatrist will have the answer to that conundrum. Any attempts I make to go to counselling with her gets ignored or ridiculed. She has nothing to say to a therapist, but she's got loads to say to me; like just the other day yelling at me to 'f **k off' then hanging up on me. I texted her back stating that abusing a sick person is uncool, which riled her up even more. She came back with it's amazing that she hasn't screamed at me more often. Oh, but you have I thought. Only my friend in New Zealand, where I'm from, knows of my torment with regards to her. In public she all lovey dove towards me. Talk about gaslighting; she wrote the book. I never see myself as inspiring others. So, thanks for that boost of confidence.
Reading back on what I just wrote you doesn't sound so inspiring to me; it's sounds like I'm whining and full of self-pity, which am a bit. Take care.

There is a recent study out of Santa Barbara that shows that PKD cysts thrive on glucose and cannot survive on fatty acids. Therefore adopting a healthy ketogenic diet has a great potential to reduce the cysts. This has been proven using rats, mice and cats. Their program uses a plant based approach as well. They also have created an exogenous ketone product formulated for the kidneys that provides citrate to alkalize the urine. My brother-in-law has PKD and I am coaching him in this approach.

I twice over 10yr period I followed a high MUFA diet. Rich in monounsaturated fats with each meal. I lost 40lbs the first time and about 100lbs the second tine following this diet. Loved it.
      It was killing me
A week after I stopped eating all the MUFAS, and some other high potassium foods my health turned around and for the first time in over 30 years my lungs no longer had fluid in them and I could breath.
I've only been recently diagnosed with PKD in my 30's but my first symptoms showed at 6 years old.
If fatty acid shrank cysts mine would not be as big as they are nor would I be in stage 3.

Use this chutney daily in every lunch & dinner
Eat salad like, slender White Radish, Cucumber(in summers only, it has cold affect).

I had same thing. My doctor said that because it was an INJURY and NOT a DISEASE that I would never need dialysis unless I had another injury to the kidneys. My numbers are bad, I'm stage five, but find a doctor who will understand the difference between an INJURY and Kidney disease. It's how to avoid dialysis. Most doctors want to put us on dialysis to protect them (my cardiothoracic surgeon from Harvard Med) because low kidney function can cause afib in the heart and cause heart attack in RARE cases (where heart disease is already present) says. My nephrologist said I don't need dialysis until the kidneys fail totally. He said it's like having a quarter tank of gas in your car. You don't need more gas (dialysis) until you're out of gas. You can still function with low kidney numbers.

very few doctors will tell you the truth. plus they're trained in handing out/writing prescription drugs and get money every time they do so don't expect to hear/get any natural remedies from them.

I live by myself and it's hard to cook. I see these mediterranean diet programs out there. Some of them ship the raw foods to you, and you cook, some are frozen meals. Would these programs be good for kidney function?

He has failed to identify the following: Huperzine A (a tough one) Psyllium seed husk, 5-HTP, What L-Tyrosine Theanine, and Cartinine do togather, he forgot to tell me about Sodium Bicarbonate, and I was taking 5mg Alpha Lipoic Acid and my cholesterol was not moving.(Try 800mg id!!!) So, I have CKD eGFR at 42, which was 51, up from 31 at start of treatment. Last exam my creatinine and potassium were high. Everthing else normal!!! So, I am here to watch more about Creatinine...

#1. you can eat "healthy", but if your fasting B.G. is anywhere in the pre-diabetic range, you risk damage to the kidneys and a future of rising microablumin signifying kidney damage. You do not have to be in full blown diabetes. High B.G. causes vascular damage to the glomerulus, which filters the blood through the kidneys and, when working properly, recycle protein back to the body instead of dumping it in the urine. If your fasting B.G. is over 100, ask for an A1C test. #2. From the studies I've looked at, yes, a bad diet will hurt, but a good diet has not been proven to reverse the progression, just slow it down, or bring it to a halt.
#2. Blood pressure is huge in this. Even if you B.P. is "normal,", if you're pre-diabetic, don't resist going on an Ace Inhibitor.
#3. First line Glucose meds (Meformin, etc.) Don't resist these if altering your diet doesn't help lower fasting B.G. These meds are far from perfect, but worth a try. Spikes in B.G. do a ton of damage. Anything to stem this is helpful.
#4. Learn not to overeat. No matter how well you choose your diet, overeating anything spikes your glucose. Learn to recognize when you've had enough. If you're in the U.S., you know many are proud of how much they can overeat.

Is creatinine the problem? or is the clearance of creatinine often correlated with Glomerular function? I have a GFR of 45 and a high normal Cystatin C. I did have rhabdo after a compartment syndrome of my thigh. I am not diabetic. I'm a large muscular person, not obese and lift weights and race bicycles. Is it possible that I don't have CKD and that the tests are misleading?

Hi. I just found your videos and am very interested in them. I have stage 3 ckd. and have kidney stones. I am 76 yrs old. The dr. I had in another state had me on Potassium Citrate. I was on them for at least 15 yrs. I stopped taking them recently on my own because I have had several R.N.'s tell me how it can affect my heart. This scares me. I normally listen to what my dr's tell me to do. I asked him about it and he got a little upset and told me "HE" was the dr. We didn't discuss how it can affect the heart. I just listened to him. Can you elaborate some on that or do you need more info. Thanks. So glad I found your videos.

How can a doctor know what will decrease creatinine or eGFR when they have not been taught this in school?
My EGFR went from 34 to 49 in one year.. That is significance! It went up 10% by taking out meat and eating fruits and vegetables. But I could not get it past 44 forever. It took a long time; again, a year. When I started eating more raw fruits… Then cooking them… My eGFR went up to 49. So don’t buy anything but organic produce. Clean your fruits and vegetables prior to eating. God bless! ✌️
