    I've flown with Lufthansa from Los Angeles to Frankfurt in 2003, which was also my first time in a 747, and since then I've flown with Lufthansa 747 to and from Shanghai from Frankfurt and between Gothenburg and Krakow with layover in Munich, all these flights have been between 2003 and 2015 and a mix between long haul and short. In my experience, Lufthansa is an amazing airline to fly with! Cabin crew has always been amazing, food has been good, excellent service even on a 1-2 hour long flight (they offered sandwiches and yoghurt, coffee, tea or cold beverage even on those short flights, all included in your fare!)
    When I flew to China, I was flying alone and the crew were just so sweet, asking me if I needed something and so on, and this was during the Swine Flu times in 2009.
    The damn thing about it all? All my flights have been in Economy!
    I'd never set foot on an American airline at this point, they're too focused on making profit over offering a safe service to their customers. American planes are poorly maintained with too many corners cut! It wasn't Lufthansa that dropped a wheel at take off some weeks ago, it wasn't Lufthansa that had a side panel blow out mid flight, it was two American based airlines that did! I saw the United flight with the lost wheel land at LAX that day after being diverted (I watch flight spotting lives on RUclips) and while the pilots and ground crew handled the situation exceptionally well and landed safely, the incident just shouldn't have happened to begin with! You don't hear much or any issues like this with European based airlines, but hear about incidents on a semi regular basis with American based airlines.
    I'd choose a slightly dated cabin on a well maintained aircraft any day of the week, over some modern cabin in an aircraft held together with ducttape to keep costs down!

    • @Julies86
      @Julies86 4 месяца назад +4

      I second this comment. While their seats might be outdated on some flights, I've always trusted Lufthansa regarding safety. But the outdated seats are probably within Europe. Flying longhaul from Germany to outside of Europe is actually quite good. The seats are better. Never had problems with food, cabin crews, toilets or entertainment packages.

The seat gave me less backpain, i had a bit more leg room and the food was nicer, service pretty much equally friendly. United had better selection on the in flight entertainment though. When I asked what time dinner was being served, I was advised that dinner would not be served, and I should order a snack from the cart when it came past my seat. That cart came past my seat 14 hours after departure, and they only had PRINGLES which cost me around $2.50 US but they could not take cash. They wanted a CREDIT CARD! The return trip was the same. The thing about United, is there are several Uniteds. There's the Continental crews and aircrafts, within the US especially, it's quite a palpable difference between the actual United, and the old Continental, in terms of quality of product and service.
    BUT, talking about "continental," there's also a great difference between United within the continental USA and the International routes United.
    In my experience, the International United is a solid and steady (constant, if you prefer) B+ airline. It's not going to offer the thrills of Singapore or Etihad, ANA or Emirates, or the beauty and refinement of Air China, for instance. But it's always been a solid product, with so few letdowns I cannot remember any specifics (over the last 27-30 years of flying them transcontinentally).
    Steady wins the race (contrast Cathay and Qatar with Singapore and ANA, for instance), and United is always in the top ten worldwide, and top six in my book (the aforementioned SQ, NH, EY, EK, and CA are my top 5).

      It’s known, look at Delta, United, even American and their cabins are mostly newer even if they fly older planes like the 757, 767 etc. Delta is so meticulous in updating their cabins and are now doing so after recent upgrades. Their entertainment is far better and actually some of the best in the world while Lufthansa have older user interface with older systems from the 2010’s. Untied Polaris bedding is world class, people rave about that. The service is a hit or miss, you may get a senior flight attendant and not a young under 30 like Singapore or Emirates but I like the US airlines don’t discriminate just because you are an older worker. Food is something they have to work on but the European airlines aren’t far ahead in that department like they were years ago. I took KLM business from Amsterdam to DC but it was on an older plane with 2-2-2 in business, the service was ok but I wish I had flown delta because they were overall better in my opinion

    It’s not even close if you look at the whole package beyond just the business class seats and service. LH group’s IT infrastructure is horrible, and good luck dealing with customer service when they accidentally flag you as a mis-connect or if they misplace your bags.
    Among LH group airlines, I think Brussels has the significantly better product. Service, food, and drinks are much more enjoyable than the other LH group. The throne seats are also great (also found on SWISS), and much better than what you’d find on Lufthansa. I think the comparison for me personally is a lot closer between Polaris and Brussels, but I can certainly see why the majority of people would prefer Polaris.
    I also wanted to mention The Loft lounge in BRU is one of my absolute favorite lounges. The steam shower and fancy toilets alone make any long haul flight so much better regardless of class.

    The problem with Lufthansa is that successive German Federal Governments have changed the shareholding and investment. This has led to an older fleet and less money for refurbishment and onboard services. The simple fact is post 2001/2008 & 2020 the old legacy carriers are just having to compete with direct sell airlines. Lufthansa used to offer a competitive inter european service and the profits from this cross subsidised premium long haul. Now people flying London to Munich/Berlin/Frankfurt are more likely to check out easyjet, Ryanair or Wizz so Lufthansa had to price drop to compete. The nature of EU freedom from cabotage rules means any EU/EFTA registered carrier can compete with Lufthansa on Germany to Europe routes.
    Add to the fact that Lufthansa has a fleet of older aircraft (including the last 747's to come out of Seattle) then their offering will look tired
    Meanwhile United having acquired Continental and being protected by US cabotage rules has a large network and a huge share of the market. Sure the US has it's share of direct sell and legacy competition BUT the core completion is just the other two of the big three [American and Delta] plus Jetblue and SouthWest.
    As a retail agent for AA/UA/DL they all focus on their core hubs with more limited competition outside of US markets.

    Can't recommend Lufthansa at all, on shorter flights it's basically a low cost carrier for a premium price now

    If you fly business class, then United is much better choice, Lufthansa's old seats are not acceptable anymore.

    Totally agree! Frankfurt is my home airport and I still have status with Lufthansa. But again and again I find myself booking other airlines - for better service, a better hard product and frankly better prices. For flights to the US United has become my preferred choice.

      LH are focussing on MUC much more than FRA these days, unfortunately for yourself.
      FRA is an old, hard-to-improve, physically constrained airport, whereas MUC just keeps getting better and better (though train service to satellite bldg at LH terminal was covered by a replacement bus service yesterday, which will operate until next month (I think) while train is updated).
      I have status with both LH and UA; LH is my first point of call, use UA as a last resort.

    40% pay raise for pilots and almost 100% pay raise for CEO. 29 months trying to get a pay raise and decent treatment from United. All of a sudden they can’t get you a hotel room. Lack of crew meals. Reserve forever. Call out sick point rules. Retirement issues. Horrendous new uniforms. Discrimination so bad you just forget you are a human. Not coming up with policies to help with unruly passengers. The list goes on and on. When you receive bad service it is almost always because of how a company treats their employees.

    Gonna be honest and say that UA has been dragging their feet with the new FA contract and I don’t see service getting better until they get a new contract

      If you want to do it against each other try Newark to Frankfurt LH403 vs UA960. The winner should be LH403 First Class > UA960 Polaris.

    US airline beats European major airlines when it comes to seating, entertainment, and refresh cabins. Both have issues with crew and food, something the European airlines had master but not anymore. If it’s a draw the US airlines win due to better overall customer service, less strikes, lost baggage’s, and delays which are a huge problem at the major airports in europe during the summer months.

    United for me as well. While I won’t pay extra for a seat, I’d still prefer United. Polaris is a perk too for those who wanna pay for that instead of 2+ TV’s

    Good to know, because I'm about to take my last flights on Lufthansa after being a loyal customer for 2 decades. Took 5 weeks to settle what should have been a relatively straightforward ticket change. Since United is code sharing this trip anyway, I may just jump over to them entirely.

    Also important to take into account that Lufthansa is incapable of negotiating contracts with its employees... Meaning that on a regular basis these will go on strike for a couple of days leading to endless flight cancelations that are not uncommon. Anyone who needs to be somewhere in a timely manner and is aware of this, should avoid Lufthansa like the plague

    Heven't flown United, so I can't compare, but what I do know that lately, Lufthansa is a very hit or miss if you get to even fly, with all the strikes. I.e. they treat their staff like shit and the staff is fed up with it.

    Just flew recently from SFO to Bilbao on Lufthansa. From SFO the food was terrible. Very terrible. From the base Munich back to SFO... the food was amazing... I bought food at the airport thinking it would be bad again. I was super impressed. Wth happens from US start flights idk. But they need to do better.

    • @Minecraftrok999
      @Minecraftrok999 5 месяцев назад

      That is because the US requires the airlines to throw away ALL fresh food on board. Therefore they have to supply it from within the US, which is definitely lower quality than what Lufthansa can do at their hubs in Germany.
