FINALLY someone big on RUclips reviews this awesome pedal. I've had mine since December and it hasn't left my flyboard, it is the most usable and malleable gate I have ever used and I own an ISP Deci-Mate G (which is better than their Decimator G String II). This gate's best uses aren't so much how fast it kicks in, it's how easy it is to dial in for each guitar/amp/feedback situation. I'm able to cut the chords right when feedback kicks in without chopping off the end of my chords, so they ring out fully, then cut off right at the perfect time. I bought mine for under 50 bucks in December, and have been telling everyone about it, and NOBODY has listened.

@@EVH5150iii I actually like the SophGate more for a few reasons 1) The TRS jack on the Deci-Mate G is EXTREMELY fragile and barely hangs in the cavity, and I broke my first one and I'm very feather-handed with my pedals. Was lucky to get a replacement free. 2) the SophGate having the 4 knobs and the quick/slow switch is what makes it so malleable of a gate, having only one knob to dial your gate in while it seems great due to how easy it is to control, is actually lacking and even with the built in effects loop on the ISP cannot negate feedback as efficiently as the SophGate does in my experience.

Reviews have helped me in my decisions to buy or not buy a product, though I have not written much reviews for others...
    I'm new to guitar.
Been practicing for the past 3 months and I owned a Donner Noise Killer mini pedal. It did its job but I noticed that the tighter the single knob was too the threshold, the closer I got to affecting the tone. Single knobs noise gates are quick inexpensive solutions but the Donner Soph Gate is a must buy.
It took some tweaking but the settings are where I need them. Doesn't destroy sustain but you have to find your sweet spot because not all gain pedals are the same. I own Ibanez Super Metal Mini, TC ELECTRONIC MOJO MOJO, and TC ELECTRONIC DARK MATTER. Sometimes I stack them and the gain noise is out of control but not with Soph Gate.
This gate is quiet. I mean quiet. You must go through it's effects loop to get the most of it but if you're not touching the strings and all pedals are on, you wouldn't know it. That's where the tweaking comes in, because once you touch the strings, you'll hear it... So play with the knobs till you get it right because when you do, this thing is fast and I mean lighting fast in stopping unwanted noise.
You can have your over drive or distortion pedal on, turn the Soph Gate off and you won't hear them plus if you turn the gate on, your gain is ready to kick in while you play. This thing is absolutely TRUE BYPASS.
Any who, I hope it helps.
    I have in this order,
Guitar, compresor soph gate, loop : all my gain, then straight into the Joyo preamp house. There I use its effects loop for all my chorus, modulation, delay, and reverb.
I hope it helps you decide.
Check out Online reviews for knob description and how to play with the settings.

I ended up selling mine. No matter what, I could not tweak it to clamp my signal. It would have just a split millisecond of feedback at the tail end before clamping. It was way more prominent when using a boost. This was even with foam behind the nut and in the spring cavity. Idk I might have got a bunk one but I ended up getting a boss ns-2

If one will make a demo about a noise gate that is described as "fast", one must make a demo in which they show how the noise gate acts when a guitar player hold a key or chords then make it sustain until the sound becomes weak, how will the noise gate reacts in that kind of situation, will it make a stuttering sound when the sound reach a low threshold?

I didn't read all of the comments but is there anyone, except me, who isn't very happy with that pedal? I tried it in the 4 cord setup (Hi Gain) when switched off it also switches off the Distortion of my amp (however that's even possible) and if I dial the gate in, so it let's through a high single notes sustain, it closes much to slow, and if I dial it in so that it closes fast it wouldn't allow any dynamic playing🤷‍♂️ than I again tried the behringer multi gate 19" and that worked wonders

  • @TheMirrorify
    @TheMirrorify 2 года назад

Wish I'd known before buying this that when setup 4CM it kills any pedals or preamp in its loop when you disengage it. So basically if I have a tight setting for rhythm then want to kick it off for more sustain on a lead line, it bypasses everything in its loop and I have a crystal clean tone. You sneakily showed the manual briefly where it says this but I feel you should have mentioned it properly.

  • @sski

This couldn't come at a better time! I've been needing a super fast gate to silence the hissing high gain end of my bass rig (think the bi-amped dUg Pinnick/Tom Petersen sound) between quiet passages that I use with my band. My MXR Smart Gate just isn't cutting it. This looks like it might just do the trick, so I just pulled the trigger on one. Thanks, Fluff!

Damn this thing is quick. I still prefer the Sentry from TC, which is a little bit more versatile, but to be honest, at the moment I don't use all those features. Should I need a noisegate just now, this thing is a serious contender. But something is weird. Some days ago, I looked up some noise gates for a friend and I stumbled over the Soph Gate for 50$. I told him Donner delivers good bang for the buck and that 50 bucks will probably a steal. If it sucks, he can still sent it back, but I would doubt it. He was still undecided. Now I looked it up again and BAMM 80$ ... I guess someone is now feeling a little bit silly.

Gate off, will do the clean, while Gate on will give you the Amp's gain staging. You may need to add an EQ pedal to shape the signal going into the power amp when the gate is off, but hey, it's a pretty cool concept.

      From a review on Reddit:
" The two main drawbacks I’ve encountered with this gate are that even with the Attack control set at the minimum, there is still that 1ms latency before your signal comes through. It’s not completely horrible, and is kind of what happens with all gates, but it’s there, and for any playing with a light touch, it will be a bit noticeable. The second problem is, if you are using the loop to put your dirt pedals in, the on/off switch will take any pedals in the loop out of your signal chain entirely. "
So here are the "catches", also inputs is misspelled on the pedal, look for it and you'll see 🤣🤣

I've been wanting a noise gate for some time, and while I have the shirt, the Cock-BLocker is out of my range right now (provided I can even find one on Reverb), and I was literally ordering this not 5 minutes after seeing this. It's supposed to be here Monday and can't wait!
