I received my KMA Pylon yesterday and it absolutely lives up to the hype! A gate, boost, and buffer all-in-one? Yes, Sir! I have it hooked up using the 4 cable method and this thing is a gamechanger. Why bother with anything else? Actually, I am selling my Decimator today someone is set to pick it up ha! Love your vids keep up the good work!
I have mine hooked up with the 4 cable method too and the weird thing is it doesn't actually seem like it's gating anything with the boost up. The gate light works but I still hear the boost hiss. I assume it's gating the boost because why bother if it doesn't? I feel like I'm doing something wrong
@@clombardo141 Double check that your 4 cable method of installation is correct. The arrangement seemed unconventional when I first hooked it up but maybe that’s just me. Use the diagram on the manufacturer’s website to double check. Good luck 👍
@@askmatt7283 so I figured it out and I hope this helps others. I spoke to KMA also. If you hook up the 4 cable method you can NOT turn off / bypass the FX loop via your amp FX loop switch. You basically have to have to have the loop activated the entire time. This is because the gating happens in the loop not in the input and if you bypass the loop you will only get boost but no gate. The gate will close in the bypassed loop. If you are going to use the FX loop bypass you would just use the 2 cable method. In that world the gate would not remove all the pedal noise when the loop is activated unless you get 2 gates. It will gate properly when the FX loops is bypassed. I know that sounds obvious now but at the time I didn't understand that. It now works great. Love the pedal.
As a musician and gear nerd myself, I love these demos and reviews. I frequently surf your channel catalog to specifically find new gear I may have missed out on. Screw the haters
I was gifted one of these. Its a very good noise pedal, and deadens the noise super quick. The boost is pretty good too it doesn't distort the sound too too much. The only thing I ran into was if I run the boost on it with my SC95 wah pedal it makes the signal/sound too harsh. Still fine tuning it a bit, but overall I think its the top noise gate on the market right now.
I've had a zuul for years and it's great. I needed a second noise gate for a second board and got a sophgate because it was affordable and apparently fast, but I really wasn't too impressed, yeah it's quick, but it doesn't do subtlety at all. good if you're straight chugging but forget about any sort of sustain and natural ring out. I'd assume it's the same for this one, unless the external trigger works as well as the key input on the zuul with your dry guitar signal.
If your only using 2 jacks in and out on a gate it's either or., use 4 cables instead with guitar in/out and send/return and you can get close to perfect balance between gate and sustain. An other option could be using 2 gates or a dual gate like the Rocktron HUSH 2x. The KMA Pylon pretty much owns, think the only gate that could be better in some circumstances would be TCE's Sentry, but that only because of the ability to adjust frequencies that should be gated via it's Toneprint option.
I just got mine and love it. I noticed that even when disengaged, the light blue light flashes like it's still gating. I thought that was weird, but I saw in this video around the 4:25 mark Fluffs does it to. I guess that's just the pedal. Anyhoo, I'm digging it!
I’ve been wondering about this as well, I just got mine and the blue LED stays on when I switch it off, and only turns off if I lower the threshold knob… meanwhile, when the pedal is off, if i start with the knob fully ccw and start turning it up the blue light comes on at some point when it seems to detect a noise floor maybe? Then when I click it on it stays blue… was wondering if anyone had issues with that so while I’m glad I’m not alone, it does seem weird and was concerning the first time I tried out the pedal…
@@pauldykema6628 hey guys, Enrico here. The blue led is an indicator for the threshold level and shows when the gate is closed. I bet this is a great pedal considering Daniel from Lichtlaerm Audio has been working with KMA for quite some time, but what about showing how the Pylon works with the hiss from the preamp section of a high gain amp? Maybe also how long a note can ring out with it, that would be great
Hey Luca, quite a few demos now that show this with high gain amps and in our humble option it sings. While it will obviously may well have some similarities on the surface, PLYON has actually an all new KMA circuit and very much improved gate design with a bunch of new things added (including the transformer assisted bypass and the boost) which we think makes a stack of difference to almost any rig 🙂
@@KMAMachines Does it take out background hiss when I have boosts and overdrives on the dirty channel of my amp using the 4 cable method? What is your take on your product and this background noise?
I like some of the features, however after looking at several Gates I ended up grabbing the Revv G8. Still cool pedals in their own right, I just found the G8 had a little more in terms of control of how and when it released is all. Great review!
hey there do you still have that Donner Soph gate lying around? lol i will gladly pay for that thing. just saw a review and am sad that i missed that run on such a great pedal.
What, or is there a difference between this and the gate in the "guardian of the wurm"? I cant find a price for this online. links appreciated.. thank you in advance!
would you use it as a boost instead of a Maxon or an Ibanez TS 9 on let's say a 6505+? (that's one of my amps and I don't have a boost yet so I prefer to have your advice before getting one ;-)
using the soph gate, it works forme, for the price I believe i will stay with Donner, I dont require that much anyway. The sophgate for the money rules
I've been wondering about noise gates lately , I have a high gain amp , and a overdrive pedal two ages and joyo vintage , the noise gate is joyo too , if my amp is without a boost the noise gate works fine ,but I've noticed doesn't even come on till it's half way turned , then when I turn on o.d I have to turn noise gate all the way up and then have to turn my amps volume up which is uncomfortable cause I'm at home in a apt right up on it , I wish a noise gate would work better firstly in general and also work at low volumes , Maybe I just need a better quality noise gate like this one?
youtube musician channels have become nothing but six minute commercials. very little content otherwise, sad. I listend to "roots" last night and thought..that's the dude that does those commercials on youtube.
@@RiffsAndBeards well that is a fckd up response, the fkc does that even mean? since you did respond can you tell us if this is the content from now on? I dont know if I was unlucky for the piece, but my Pylon doesnt work. It just lowers the volume and I cant get the right balance between silence and tone, because once I actually make the amp shut the f up, it just doesnt let any signal through. I really wanna love this pedal, but what should I do if it doesnt work?
would this work for distorted bass? i have an active 5 string bass that i'll occasionally through darkglass pedals on. would that 'cut' feature help or start cutting out frequencies i want?

Does anyone know what cable he's using for the channel switch? I'm trying to find one for my Pylon but the only ones I can find seem to be made in England and are like $40.
I’m trying to find a noise gate that doesn’t Color the tone, having a hard time. Fluff seems super keen on the sentry, but man does it Color the tone in a gross way… it takes of the rounded bottom of my tone and bumps the high mids in a way that’s tough to dial out :(
So I have been using the noise gate on the horizon devices precision drive and have noticed there is still distortion during the notes I play. Cuts off noise when the strings are muted, but would this pedal solve that problem of hearing feedback/distortion during the notes being played? I guess I’m not entirely sure how that all works. My amp is just a boss katana, not sure if that has anything to do with it?
Surely the Donner is still the ultimate bang for buck? Whilst this might have extra bells and whistles, in terms of acting as a noise gate how does it really compare as a noise gate forgetting about boosts and syncing to your drummers kick drum. Most people probably want a noise gate that solely looks after the noise without fucking up their sound never mind the extras. I'd like to see a side by side comparison between these newer best gates out there to see how they really stack up. Let's face it, if a cheaper gate is equal to or better than this one you are going to buy it because a boost can be obtained so many other ways and economically it will just make sense. I do like the filter feature on this pedal however still think it's extras are non essential to say the least.
You make a good point and an apples to apples comparison of the noise gate would be good to see. I like the KMA Pylon because the extra features eliminate the need for other pedals. An integrated boost and channel switcher frees up more real estate on my board. But I really like the onboard filter. It lets me shape my tone in a way I haven’t experienced with other components. Really digging this pedal.
If you had to choose this or the REVV G8 would this still be your choice? I’m running my rig into a high gain amplifier (Diezel) and I’m stuck between the two
So is it still better than the TC Electronics Sentry when considering ist twice the price? Also: I suspect this might be a revamped Lichtlaerm Key&The Gate Pedal, since the guy running Lichtlaerm joined KMA a while back. Maybe tehyll do a revamp of the Gehenna and the Ritual.
oh no it's not the same Alexander, while it will obviously may well have some similarities on the surface, is actually an all new and very much improved gate design with a bunch of new things added (including the transformer assisted bypass and the boost which we think makes a stack of difference)🙂
But wait i thought the sophgate was the best gate you were saying seriously considering putting it on your board. Jk giving u a hard time.i still use a boss ns2. Tried and true. But i almost bought the sophgate at the time i bought the ns2. I went with the ns2 because 1. You hadnt demoed the sophgate yet and there werent any demos of it or reviews. And i thought well the ns2 is a boss pedal thats notoriously good. And it cost 3 times as much as the sophgate so it must be better. I widh id got the sophgate. The ns2 is good it works but still get tons of feedback through high gain tube heads.
Well... It's not that you didn't test ALL the gates in your previous shootout, you didn't test the top gates or any boutique ones like the Golem etc. :/
oddly enough it seems like no one does rarely do you see them being tested but thats all you hear about on fb and guitar forms. I'm guessing since no one is sending them to them or paying them they wont review them.
I received a Pylon and it may have been defective but it was the worst gate I've owned. In two cable method it produced white noise that would not away even with threshold maxed. I suspect boost is after gate and causing the noise somehow even though boost was not engaged. In four cable method, I had to run threshold so high to remove normal noise that my sustain was being choked out. My GUP Tech Guul and even my original Decimator destroy the Plyon. I suspect mine was defective. No way they would release it like mine was.
Again...it is the best gate ever made...yes we know ...as always...and compared to the other best gate ever made you have reviewed like the revv g8, the sentry by tc, the cock blocker or the soph gate by donner...maybe a comparison video could be cool and of real interest or you already have sent back those awesome best gate and stick to your first one, the sentry by tc like you stated with ben eller 3 weeks ago or something at sweetwater studio??? That's a bit weird to have all of these amazing pieces of gear and we never see them again after the first review...
It's crap... I bought one and returned it two days later, it does everything apart from what it's supposed to do which is "noise gating"! If you want a good noise gate try the TC sentry or the Revv one. The sentry is like 80 bucks and worth every penny! Gates way better than a Decimator or that Pylon shite!
The over the top title and thumbnail. The instant responses to detractors. The fact that other channels are also posting reviews of this, and that KMA is posting on this within a couple hours of it being posted…. … yeah… it kind of screams “I am being compensated for this review” Lame
Well, a couple of things: 1 - It’s called marketing. There was an embargo on the post time. I don’t decide when a pedal will be released. This is how things are released. If you don’t like it, simply don’t watch. 2- I said at the start of the video it’s a sponsored video. I’m not secretly sitting here trying to bilk you out of your money as if I made the pedal. Watch the video or don’t. It’s fine. 3- Don’t act like company engagement is bad. If you want a company that doesn’t have dialog with its users then go somewhere else. 4- I have never ever done reviews. I do demos. I play the thing and let you decide if you like it. My job is to get eyes on a particular thing if I like it. That’s it.
@@RiffsAndBeards “you can consider this a sponsored video; kma sent me a pedal” vs Fricker’s “this is a sponsored video; kma is paying me to make it.” Yours is disingenuous by comparison… unless they’re not paying you. Which might explain the overly salty attitude and taking pot shots at other creators that “burp and say fuck a lot” But as for the snark, there’s a lot to misunderstand about “you can consider this” vs “they’re paying me”: one is clear as day, and the other is trying to make it seem like the overly enthusiastic tone of the video is because you’re just *that* excited about a noise gate… In case it’s not clear to you yet, one of those is insulting to your viewers.
@@havokca Any amount of compensation be it money, gear, whatever is all the same. Its compensation. And I told you that. Its not your business to know how I have been compensated, but it is absolutely your business to know I have been compensated. Secondly, I'm not taking pot shots at anyone. They are my friends and I am simply pointing out that different channels do different things. Lastly if you are picking up any snark, that is entirely on you and your perception but either way I wish you good health and a great week.

I currently use the TC Electronic Sentry, and it works great as I can dial in when my notes decay... but there is ALWAYS a background hum I can never get rid of... the only gate I ever had that was able to completely make it sound like my amplifier was OFF, was the ISP Decimator Pro Rack G (Rack version using it in stereo). What is your take on your product and this background noise?
Fricker first... I assume Warren is next? 😁😉
Have you tried out the Stone Deaf Noise Reaper for comparison?
Seeing as my decimator just crapped out on me, I think there's one of these in my future.
I like some of the features, however after looking at several Gates I ended up grabbing the Revv G8. Still cool pedals in their own right, I just found the G8 had a little more in terms of control of how and when it released is all.
Great review!
DAE - Golem
hey there do you still have that Donner Soph gate lying around? lol i will gladly pay for that thing. just saw a review and am sad that i missed that run on such a great pedal.
What, or is there a difference between this and the gate in the "guardian of the wurm"? I cant find a price for this online. links appreciated.. thank you in advance!
Would the channel switching function work on a 5150 II head with the 7 prong footswitch input?
Schnauze by Klirrton is truly the best. So clean, so powerful, so everything you need.
That one is on my wishlist.
Is the KMA better than the Revv G8?
would you use it as a boost instead of a Maxon or an Ibanez TS 9 on let's say a 6505+? (that's one of my amps and I don't have a boost yet so I prefer to have your advice before getting one ;-)
Does it bass?
Overkill for Bass.. Get a Compressor/Limiter (for Bass), or just grab an MXR Bass Compressor and Noise Clamp.
using the soph gate, it works forme, for the price I believe i will stay with Donner, I dont require that much anyway.
If you want me to burp or say fuck alot you got the wrong channel
@@RiffsAndBeards well that is a fckd up response, the fkc does that even mean? since you did respond can you tell us if this is the content from now on? Soph Gate or this one, best regards!
is it worth to spend extra 50$ and get KMA Audio Machines Pylon Noise Gate or should i save my self some money and get the revv g8?
i have zuul noise gate and for me its the best so far but how this KMA compare to zuul? not the plus.
How about a year later how’s it doing now?
KMA Pylon or Revv G8 ?
I dont know if I was unlucky for the piece, but my Pylon doesnt work. It just lowers the volume and I cant get the right balance between silence and tone, because once I actually make the amp shut the f up, it just doesnt let any signal through. I really wanna love this pedal, but what should I do if it doesnt work?
would this work for distorted bass? i have an active 5 string bass that i'll occasionally through darkglass pedals on. would that 'cut' feature help or start cutting out frequencies i want?
It’s almost the same like Lichtlaerm Audio gate…. Daniel made this for sure!
Hey Andy, while it will obviously may well have some similarities on the surface, is actually an all new circuit and very much improved gate design with a bunch of new things added (including the transformer assisted bypass and the boost) which we think makes a stack of difference to almost any rig 🙂

Your shelfs for you amp who makes them? They lok really sturdy and industrial. 1:14
how’s it compare to the revv g8
Where does it stand against the Revv G8?
Does anyone know what cable he's using for the channel switch? I'm trying to find one for my Pylon but the only ones I can find seem to be made in England and are like $40.
Is this this gate cleaner -faster than a zuul plus? Anybody know?
Where’d you get that shirt bro?
This or a TC Sentry?
I’m trying to find a noise gate that doesn’t Color the tone, having a hard time. Fluff seems super keen on the sentry, but man does it Color the tone in a gross way… it takes of the rounded bottom of my tone and bumps the high mids in a way that’s tough to dial out :(
Try making a tone print using your computer, and utilize its 3 band gate feature to make your gate for your application 😀
I just bought an NS2 and a foot switch. Now I feel like a dumby
KMA Pylon vs. Revv G8?
I’m running my rig into a high gain amplifier (Diezel) and I’m stuck between the two
the rev gate is not even as good as a sentry
Fuckin SOLD
is it true bypass?
Subtitles: Today on roof spears and gear...
@@KMAMachines I just bought one for myself, through Vintage King. Fluff really showed us how good it is !
They’re all the best gate ever 🤷🏻♂️
I have tried it but so far nothing beats the ISP Hum Extractor and Decimator pedal....
"This thing has a effects loop." I'm sorry?!
I said the TC was the best gate before this existed. Dont put words in my mouth.
That autofocus tho
But does it djent?!?!?!?!?! 😱😱😱😱😱
… yeah… it kind of screams “I am being compensated for this review”
Lame
Well, a couple of things:
1 - It’s called marketing.
That’s it.
@@RiffsAndBeards Re #2: You didn’t. You just said they sent you the pedal. You’re being compensated… that colours your presentation of the pedal.
@@havokca “you can consider this a sponsored video” what about that do you not understand?
@@RiffsAndBeards “you can consider this a sponsored video; kma sent me a pedal” vs Fricker’s “this is a sponsored video; kma is paying me to make it.”
Yours is disingenuous by comparison… unless they’re not paying you. Which might explain the overly salty attitude and taking pot shots at other creators that “burp and say fuck a lot”
But as for the snark, there’s a lot to misunderstand about “you can consider this” vs “they’re paying me”: one is clear as day, and the other is trying to make it seem like the overly enthusiastic tone of the video is because you’re just *that* excited about a noise gate…
In case it’s not clear to you yet, one of those is insulting to your viewers.
Here for the next video where he finds a new gate pedal and says it's the fastest gate lol
