I am a 63 year old white male in Texas. I am one generation removed from what has been described, rightfully so, as "The Greatest Generation". My father and uncles served in the military during World War II. The world is littered with the graves of those who sacrificed their dreams of the future, their hopes for the future to serve and defeat what can only be described as pure evil. And here we are 80 years later on the cusp of electing a man who embodies the same personality and characteristics of not only Hitler but of all the authoritarian figures of that time. I cannot effing believe it. Are we that stupid?

I’m hoping that Harris wins and that piece of crap goes through court trials and all the generals and everyone who reported his crimes and criminal behaviors testify against him. I really hope he does jail time but I doubt it. I am just a housewife, not some expert, but I think folks underestimate how much we understand about politics right now. I'm buying the groceries, cooking the meals, scheduling home maintenance, vet appointments, etc., but I have my headphones on, my podcasts scrolling. I'm not ignorant about the stakes. Neither are my neighbors, our knitting group, the PTA. No one is polling us, though, yet we vote. We're not voting for DJT. I don't think anyone in media really understands how irrelevant television is, anymore. To us, media are just talking to each other, blah blah, "that's so interesting, but whaddabout..." Pfooey. I think everyone in media needs to recruit a regular person to comment and contribute opinions. Also, the McDs thing was insulting, not good.

I left the Republican Party 10 years ago and will never vote for a Republican again. I love Sarah’s fired up energy. A vote for Kamala Harris is a vote for democracy.

I voted today, stood in line for 50 minutes, and was very excited to be there I knew I was voting for the best possible candidate for the American people. However, I live in The Villages Florida were 90% of the residents are Trump supporters. Realizing this fact, I had a sudden sick feeling in my gut and was saddened by the weak minded fellow countrymen that stood beside me. I was just reading all of the comments under a CBS post on Kelly telling us to beware and how dire our situation with Trump is. The majority posting under the news short were Trump supporters saying it’s all fake news and they this just made them more likely to vote Trump. They truly think that the democrats are up in arms over nothing. They think Kelly is disgruntled over being fired by Trump.
The reality is that most of his supporters don’t have a clue about almost anything he says or does. They mainline FOX news and Truth Social. I saw interviews where some had never heard of Jan. 6th.
The President has declared the week surrounding the certification of the election by Congress to be a special security event, and I fully expect the Washington DC Army National Guard, and other police to be ready on site surrounding the Capital. What happened last time should not be possible. On that note: I wonder if millions of veterans who do not support the white supremacy neo-NAZI MAGAts would be willing to organize a counter-protest march to put a buffer between MAGA and the people defending the Capital on that day? I'm sorry, I just have to. My son is 20. His best friend's dad is a major Trump supporter. He voted the first time in the midterms 2022 as a registered democrat. He is still a registered democrat. I want him to vote on his own in person. He kind of wanted me to tag along, but I voted as soon as the early vote opened in Nevada on Saturday. I want my kids to feel like this is their choice and I've encouraged him to vote in person if just one time for the experience. I remember my first time voting. It was very cathartic. When I voted on Saturday, I got very emotional. Maybe it's my age (57) or what is at stake, but it matters. The fact that my 20 year old feels the stakes the same way is really important and gratifying as a parent. We have an unbelievable amazing country that I am proud to live in. I’m a non-college white woman living in a small town. I voted early yesterday all BLUE. This was not a conversion for me, I’ve been center left basically forever even though I’m not registered with either party. First president I helped elect was Jimmy Carter.
One of the things I really love about the bulwark they let the female voice be heard! They give her centerstage. They don’t interrupt her, they don’t disparage her or argue with her. They respect her opinions. And it is heartening, Because she speaks for us, Articulately and with passion.

My anxiety is through the roof! If mainstream media isn’t talking about the stakes… as many people as possible need to flood their lines and demand it. Ask them why they aren’t having General Kelly on. A lot of people watch RUclips, but there’s still a ton who watch regular TV… especially older voters. I am a left leaning centrist but agree with you with regards to the Bulwark. It's nice to hear conservatives talk about issues rather than Republican loyalists toeing the party line. I am hopeful that this is the beginning of building a coalition to bring the government back to a place where discussion and compromise are seen as the norm not completely taboo.

There’s a long tradition of military not commenting on partisan politics (which normally is a very very good thing). This is a weird situation where this is a threat to the Constitution so the generals are in uncharted territory and are trying not to break that (excellent) tradition unless it’s needed.

I went into a back and forth with a guy on Facebook this week. We went back and forth for 2 days. He started with "I don't like Trump, but I like his conservative policies" When I hear that, it's on!!! That's the biggest lie ever and I love breaking it down to what it's really about. He was willing to go back and forth politely with me. I knew we would not agree on any facts so I didn't give him many. I also knew that he would have literally zero logical reasons for voting for him. This went back and forth as I dismantled his logic. He kept giving me new reasons to vote for trump. I kept pointing out either the horrible logic or hypocrisy. After that... he ran out of policy reasons. You know what's left... they have to admit or it at least is obvious that they are either racist, misogynist, anti-semite, homophobe... It all comes out! He wouldn't vote for a woman... and finally he said Hitler had been good for the economy and trump didn't do anything hitler-like during his administration. So I went on and on about how Hitler lured people like all dictators do. Saying that Hitler was good for the economy is like saying "child molesters aren't that bad. They give out candy!" Every single time. The ones who say they like trumps conservative policies are ALWAYS BIGOTS. 100% of the time.
So many professional groups have signed statements that Trump is dangerous. Psychologists, conservative church leaders, retired political figures, etc. There needs to be a press conference every night in prime time from these groups and more. On all stations at once.

I would highly recommend getting Lt Gen Ben Hodges on the show. He just did a great interview calling out his fellow flag officers for not standing up for the country.
I have an extremely smart 89-year-old retired engineer as a friend, who thinks “darn” is a curse word. But he watches Fox, so when I tell him what Trump says, he kind of sort of thinks I’m exaggerating. If the generals went on Fox, people like him would flip. No question. Are there people the generals know who are like you, but have access to them, and are maybe pressuring them to go on camera?

This is why I subscribe to the Bulwark. An unwavering sense of morality and unabashed outrage. You guys have worked so hard to try to help the country avoid another disastrous Trump administration. The one image that has stuck with me and never ceases to fill me with rage is Trump's photo op with the baby his rhetoric helped to orphan in the El Paso massacre in 2019. Those poor family members stood there awash in grief and shock, while he posed beside them grinning maniacally with his thumbs up. It was the most grotesque thing I've ever seen.

I am a 63 year old white male in Texas. I am one generation removed from what has been described, rightfully so, as "The Greatest Generation". My father and uncles served in the military during World War II. The world is littered with the graves of those who sacrificed their dreams of the future, their hopes for the future to serve and defeat what can only be described as pure evil. And here we are 80 years later on the cusp of electing a man who embodies the same personality and characteristics of not only Hitler but of all the authoritarian figures of that time. I voted today, stood in line for 50 minutes, and was very excited to be there I knew I was voting for the best possible candidate for the American people. I was just reading all of the comments under a CBS post on Kelly telling us to beware and how dire our situation with Trump is. The majority posting under the news short were Trump supporters saying it’s all fake news and they this just made them more likely to vote Trump. They truly think that the democrats are up in arms over nothing. They think Kelly is disgruntled over being fired by Trump.

I'm sorry, I just have to. My son is 20. His best friend's dad is a major Trump supporter. He voted the first time in the midterms 2022 as a registered democrat. He is still a registered democrat. I want him to vote on his own in person. He kind of wanted me to tag along, but I voted as soon as the early vote opened in Nevada on Saturday. I want my kids to feel like this is their choice and I've encouraged him to vote in person if just one time for the experience. I remember my first time voting. It was very cathartic. When I voted on Saturday, I got very emotional. Maybe it's my age (57) or what is at stake, but it matters. The fact that my 20 year old feels the stakes the same way is really important and gratifying as a parent. We have an unbelievable amazing country that I am proud to live in. I’m a non-college white woman living in a small town. I voted early yesterday all BLUE. This was not a conversion for me, I’ve been center left basically forever even though I’m not registered with either party. First president I helped elect was Jimmy Carter.
One of the things I really love about the bulwark they let the female voice be heard! They give her centerstage. They don’t interrupt her, they don’t disparage her or argue with her. They respect her opinions. And it is heartening, Because she speaks for us, Articulately and with passion.

It stops me from automatically thinking about anything from a completely leftist perspective. You guys do a great job of explaining things. I am a left leaning centrist but agree with you with regards to the Bulwark. It's nice to hear conservatives talk about issues rather than Republican loyalists toeing the party line. I am hopeful that this is the beginning of building a coalition to bring the government back to a place where discussion and compromise are seen as the norm not completely taboo.

There’s a long tradition of military not commenting on partisan politics (which normally is a very very good thing). This is a weird situation where this is a threat to the Constitution so the generals are in uncharted territory and are trying not to break that (excellent) tradition unless it’s needed.

I went into a back and forth with a guy on Facebook this week. We went back and forth for 2 days. He started with "I don't like Trump, but I like his conservative policies" When I hear that, it's on!!! That's the biggest lie ever and I love breaking it down to what it's really about. He was willing to go back and forth politely with me.
I knew we would not agree on any facts so I didn't give him many. I also knew that he would have literally zero logical reasons for voting for him. This went back and forth as I dismantled his logic. He kept giving me new reasons to vote for trump. I kept pointing out either the horrible logic or hypocrisy. After that... he ran out of policy reasons.
You know what's left... they have to admit or it at least is obvious that they are either racist, misogynist, anti-semite, homophobe... It all comes out!
He wouldn't vote for a woman... and finally he said Hitler had been good for the economy and trump didn't do anything hitler-like during his administration.
So I went on and on about how Hitler lured people like all dictators do.
Saying that Hitler was good for the economy is like saying "child molesters aren't that bad. They give out candy!"

I have an extremely smart 89-year-old retired engineer as a friend, who thinks “darn” is a curse word. But he watches Fox, so when I tell him what Trump says, he kind of sort of thinks I’m exaggerating. If the generals went on Fox, people like him would flip. No question. Are there people the generals know who are like you, but have access to them, and are maybe pressuring them to go on camera?

I honestly don’t think they are able to process things except in simple terms. And, when you trust someone and think they are a good person, you hear what you believe they are saying. But one of these guys would run into a burning building to save an “illegal”, and the other would at least stop to change their tire. What will they be like, when we’re in year two of a second Trump presidency? The really good-hearted one will be convinced that the camps in the desert are like a college dorm, and he’ll probably point the Army toward the people crammed into the apartment at the end of his block. The other will shut out all of it. Same as the everyday Germans who facilitated the Holocaust by pretending reality was the opposite of what it was.

This is why I subscribe to the Bulwark. An unwavering sense of morality and unabashed outrage. You guys have worked so hard to try to help the country avoid another disastrous Trump administration. The one image that has stuck with me and never ceases to fill me with rage is Trump's photo op with the baby his rhetoric helped to orphan in the El Paso massacre in 2019. Those poor family members stood there awash in grief and shock, while he posed beside them grinning maniacally with his thumbs up. It was the most grotesque thing I've ever seen.
Trump has had 5 October surprises and nothing has had an impact. What a time.
