You're not wrong, seeing how long ago this was I'm guessing it was an early draft of the song. Btw..that gasoline lyric..you think he's saying he did or didn't need her? I love how he leaves things open to interpretation (especially in "outfit" "don't tell em you're bigger than Jesus, don't give it away" it could simply mean don't give it away OR don't let them know your secret..(the dad has so much faith in his son and knows how good he is but don't want him to get too big for his boots) great writing.

I know I’m late to the party. My take is given the timing he was still struggling with alcoholism, and it might’ve been a hard lyric for him to sing at the time. Just my thought

Probably my all-time favorite Isbell lyric is in this song "nobody give a damn about the things I give a damn about".

There is so many lyrics from him to choose from, hard to find a favorite for me. "I aint really drownin cause I see the beach from here" , is one of my favorites

@Patriot Mann This is crazy, I was listening to Guitar Town from Steve Earle last night with my wife, his line about "2 pack a day habit and a motel tan", reminded me of that AC line, my wife and I had a discussion about that, or more accurately I talked about it while my wife rolled her eyes.
