What a huge amount of fun and entertainment this was. I assume it's Hugh Laurie the polymath - actor, musician, singer, comedian, director, producer - how much talent can one person have......

Simon Prebble does a fabulous job with this excellent story. It's rare to find oneself smiling wryly every few minutes in the course of a thriller. Hugh Laurie really is wonderful in so many ways.

Thoroughly enjoyable, both the writing and the narration. Such a pleasure after abandoning numerous ghastly computer generated offerings. A/I narration is like getting a robot to play hamlet on stage.

Thanks for sharing what must have seemed bitingly clever at the time, but it's obvious he's referring to the regional accent.. you do realize the use of the English language varies greatly around the world, from town to town, but no place so much as in the states, where Laurie starred in a wildly popular tv show while portraying a midwestern american accent so well that most Americans are shocked to learn he wasn't born and raised there.. given this new awareness, hopefully you won't be so quickly offended next time you're on the world wide web, confronted with people using terminology that doesn't fit in at your local pub.

I find the sniper fake assassination somewhat unbeleivable . He says an L96A1 is used without the 'stock'. It actually has two polymer shells which make up the stock, thumbhole grip and fore grip,to fire the barrel, receiver and trigger, with a scope on top, without the 'stock' or a bipod accurately would be virtually impossible. It would also be chambered in 7.62 x 51 NATO,not .22L. More than that,a Javelin (whichever type) is not going under a bus,nor getting wrapped in a bit of grease proof paper,an AT 4 or LAW 80,although not guided, would have made more sense for smuggling.
