Am only 3 1/2 hours into this story and it is brilliant. So refreshing to listen to the product of a gifted and highly skilled author, his timing, plot, everything is just right, like a magnificent piece of music. I hope Hugh writes more novels.

fantastically entertaining in script and narration. Also, slightly longer than the 100yrs War.

Great story, fine reading... but sometimes very dirty details in the "bloody" scenes 😞I'm glad I don't have to watch this as a movie.

This character is so reminiscent of my grandmothers tough tiny old woman who raised families through the great depression and never a day without hard work in their entire lives.

I read this book when it came out and it was amazing ... love being able to enjoy it again with this brilliant narration

The narration makes all the difference. I can’t do the robot voice, it ruins even the best books for me.

Thank you for this . I had so very much wished for a book in which an Elder did indeed understand all the tech etc etc ; I first read this about five years ago . It's magnificent.

It's cute that Mr. Laurie thinks CNN wouldn't be in the pocket of the MIC. Then again, this was 1996... a less cynical, less overtly political era.

Yes , it's witty / amusing etc but the relentless wisecracks end up just being irritating . Just as much a cliche as Bond in its own way . Might be bearable in 10 minute chunks ?
