    High Speed Blue Pullman • High Speed Running On ...
    I'm back after my recent break with a look at the excellent Tri-ang Hornby The Blue Pullman set RS 52. This wonderful 1967 set includes R.555 and R.556, The Diesel Pullman Motor Car Type Two and the Non Powered Motor Car. It also includes a coach R.426 and an oval of Super 4 track. See how this set performs after a long period in storage. Also I run the little G. W. R set R.694 on the main layout. Thanks for looking at this video

    Good morning Mr Snooze great to see that little 0.4.0 in action on the super 4 and then the stunning Blue Pullman set underway on the batteries, lovely noise on the rails. Excellent Low speed on the HM 4000 but looks and sounds more fun on the batteries...
    Take care.

      Hello Oscar, I did enjoy using the battery controller again but I felt like trying out a bit of slow running and the old HM 4000 is fun to use sometimes. Best regards to you

    That brought back happy memories Mr. Snooze the Blue Pullman was the first set my dad bought for my brother and I way back probably 1968ish, it lay in the loft for about 50 years before I attempted to get it working again a new pick up spring and a service and it was as good as new racing round the track making that distinct noise due to its knurled wheels its certainly a noisy loco, it was hard to believe the last time I saw it working I was 5 year old. Thanks for posting.

    Always loved the Blue Pullman, have a couple of those sets, including the slightly later one with the plastic Inserts. Also have the other later incarnations of the Hornby set, as well as the reverse Blue/Gray set, along with a number of extra middle coaches. Amazes me what these fetch on eBay these days. Thanks for showing this.

    Ah, the iconic Blue Pullman, what I consider to be the prototype for today's HST trains Mr. S. It could do a top speed of 90mph. I would love to see it hammer round your main layout with the additional centre coach. I have around 4 of these wonderful trains. In its day, one of the very best sets. Thank you Mr. S.
    Best, Pete.

    Another excellent video Mr Snooze, the Blue Pullman was probably one of the most attractive diesel trains ever built, a forerunner of the HST in many respects. The Triang Hornby model is a lovely item and your set looks absolutely mint. The mechanism is well designed and made, the noise from the knurled wheels is impressive, what a beautiful item. The catalogues from that era are pieces of artwork in their own right, I so much enjoy your description and commentary on these lovely British made models. Many thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing your next video.

    What a coincidence I've been running my Triang Blue Pullman around the layout , I've only just accuired two middle coaches, it runs good on my Peco track, I've serviced it, the loco start's off a little slow but soon picks up, this old stuff is fun to run, I also have a 6 car Bachmann set all singing and dancing model, how model railways have developed Ktf J

    Nice to see the Blue Pullman. Triang really leapt forward with that model just a night and day difference to what they were producing just a few years before. Agree about the Neo Magnets. I did fit a few but excessive bearing wear taught me a lesson but the biggest lesson was discovering that in certain circumstances the magnets were powerful enough to derail a train passing in the opposite direction!

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  Год назад +1

      Hello, that is a scary story about the neo magnets pulling locos towards one and other, they are useful in some cases but in most they are simply too strong. The damage to bearings you talk about is proof I think. Take care, best regards to you

    It is great to see you back Mr. Snooze. Some very fine running today on the Super 4 layout and what a beautiful set you have in the RS 52 Blue Pullman. I remember at the time when they were running that I wasn't keen on them. I think it was because I couldn't figure out in my mind just where they belonged. They weren't DMU's and they weren't locos and coaches. Looking at the current state of rolling stock it is abundantly clear that they were pioneers of the future look of the railways. I never had one as a model. Regards, David.

      Hello David, as you say now with the benefit of a few more decades behind us this Pullman now seems an important stepping stone to more modern locos. I've always liked the striking blue early livery. Take care, all the best to you

    Thanks Jonathan! Always great to see these sets brought back to life. The modern controller was a nice surprise too :o)
    Interestingly, if you look in that 1963 (9th Edition) catalogue on page 22, R.55 is advertised as "Now with Diesel Engine Noise". I wonder if the knurled wheels were what produced that noise, and they kept it on as an unannounced feature in other diesels? It's the same power bogie in R.157 the Diesel railcar and the Dock Shunter is a very similar design too. Mike

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  Год назад +1

      Hello Mike, I wondered if many viewers would stick around to see the end segment. That H.M 4000 is capable of some great slow running of older models. As to the R.55 with diesel sound, I don't own any examples of this model but I know Oscar Paisley has some in his collection including the highly desirable version you mention. It has an extra X04 type motor mounted over the rear bogie with a special resistance board behind it. All to produce extra sound. Probably a very expensive model to produce hence it's rarity. Thanks for watching, best regards to you

    Sounds less "clapped out dentist drill" when run on "real" electric! 😁 Can't wait for the catalogues, so much better than online, though you don't need a torch to "drool" under the bed covers, "kids these days don't know they're born"🤣👍👍 Just a thought, what gives the best "electrical" smell, battery or mains?

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  Год назад +1

      No torches required now as modern devices provided their own screen lighting under the sheets. Mrs Snooze has been known to reprimand me occasionally for unauthorized after lights out reading in the dormitory area. Also, funnily enough, if left to run for a few circuits you still get the excellent Tri-ang motor smell on battery power too so all is still authentic. As I mentioned in another reply, come winter I will hopefully livestream a session with all the catalogues on hand so we can look at suggestions from people watching. Thanks for looking at the video, best regards to you

    Back when Hornby sets were without all the unnecessary box bloat you see in today's 'modern made in China' sets. You would think Hornby would rethink their boxing to conform with environmentally sustainable and reduce the boxing & packaging size. Or are the bloated boxes all about attaching a big bloated price. In no way a surprise their share price is chasing $0

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for looking, modern packaging can be very bloated I agree, possibly the newer models aren't as strong as these older items and need more protection. Also a big glossy box is great visually, years ago people were more interested in the items than the marketing and hype. I do hope Hornby survive but I think they may have made a few bad moves recently. Take care, all the best to you
